Mumsnet moderation of trans rights and gender critical issues

JustineMumsnet · 13/06/2018 09:31

Hi all,
We've given lots of thought to our moderation policies around trans rights and sex and gender issues and thought it would be a good idea to articulate where we stand in the form of a clear statement, so everyone can be clear about our moderation going forward. You can find it here. Hope it provides a helpful reference point. Thanks.

Great meeting here tonight talking about trans rights activism being narcissistic abuse. Watch the recording it's brilliant.

We are reality Gibberty. We are.

loveyouradvice · 13/06/2018 20:48

Sadly I agree with Bewilderness

I will go further and declare that heterosexual males who identify as lesbians are quite likely to be predators.

PermissionToSpeakSir · 13/06/2018 20:48

How does that work?

"allows to refuse"

You think women shouldn't be 'allowed to refuse' to accept lies on MN.

Disturbing, gaslighting, domineering and authoritarian.

This lesbian will never accept Trans women as women or lesbians.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/06/2018 20:53

if Mumsnet still allows people to refuse to accept trans women as women then we have made no real progress

Thing is, Mumsnet doesn't actually have any control over what readers/commenters accept because a website can't control what people think. It can only control what they can and can't say. If they're prevented from saying certain things they'll still think them.

daimbars · 13/06/2018 20:54

Oh for goodness sake. I was born female, I am a lesbian, I'm married to another female born lesbian, if a ridiculous TRA on Twitter told me to suck ladydick I would tell them to get lost. I would take it as an unpleasant but isolated incident and not judge the entire transgender population on it. I have no issue with trans people. If that makes me an abuser in your mind who has no right to identify as a lesbian then so be it.

Pratchet · 13/06/2018 20:54

we will have to see what happens but if Mumsnet still allows people to refuse to accept trans women as women then we have made no real progress

Wtf level of delusion is this

Hyppolyta · 13/06/2018 20:55

My favourite suggestion so far has been males who dont want to be men

Im happy to use that instead of TiM, if it causes less offense to bothmales and females.

DrizzledWombat · 13/06/2018 20:55

Would "Male Identifying Transperson" and "Female Identifying Transperson" be acceptable? Abbreviated to MIT and FIT respectively.

I will now go back to lurking.

thebewilderness · 13/06/2018 20:55

There's no breakout groups from the LGBT that I've come across.

Except the ones that have been posting here for years and talked about their expulsion and harassment and forming groups, of course.
Those lesbians have a sexual orientation so they do not count, eh?

Enormous mendacious disembodied anus is sung to the tune of Kokomo.

Since MN has declared that you have a right to be believed, whether you are telling the truth or not about your identity, there really isn't anything I can say to you about your identity.
Your behavior is abusive. It has been right along.

Popchyk · 13/06/2018 21:00

daimbars you say you are female.

How do you define female? Does it include male people?

HornyTortoise · 13/06/2018 21:01

Maybe we should just keep TIM, TIF, TERF and cis? And everyone can lump it all round?

After reading the thread, I think I prefer this. I hat the wrd cis and the way its used generally in a sneery negative way, TERF is problematic too..however, I value free speech and do not think blanket bans wll work. I also do not find the 3 strikes system to be very fair given MN know how much TRAs target FWR regulars. Its giving into the bullies really.

I wish they would fuck off, and go tell the pistonheads lot how transphobic they are or something.

daimbars · 13/06/2018 21:02

JuzzaL I think if two consenting adults want to sleep together it's nobody's business but theirs.

It's strange you can't see the irony in telling me I'm not allowed to identify as a lesbian because I think this.

BarrackerBarmer · 13/06/2018 21:04

I'm finding all the "Please Master, just tell me the words I'm allowed, I'll say whatever you want, just don't gag me again" a bit, you know. Depressing.

You can definitely talk about biological fact and the immutability of sex, regardless of identity.
But don't say male though.
Or man.
Or penis.

I think we're allowed to talk about biological fact, but only insofar as we're talking about imaginary people, not real ones.

Please suspend reality. My identity has entered the room.

thebewilderness · 13/06/2018 21:04

Gender reassigned males works for me. Possibly males who identify as gender reassigned, by poll deed or intent.

daimbars · 13/06/2018 21:04

Popchyk personally I see 'female' and 'woman' as having two different meanings. Female is related to anatomy and woman is related to identity.

Artemis7 · 13/06/2018 21:06

There are obviously males on this thread claiming to be lesbians and these are the ones claiming that we should call males women. I think it is revoltingly misogynistic and lesbophobic to make us pretend these males are actually female lesbians. Frankly I find it sickening.

BarrackerBarmer · 13/06/2018 21:07

What would the word be for an adult with female anatomy be, daimbars?

We may get somewhere

thebewilderness · 13/06/2018 21:08

daimbars
Do you understand that your claim that people are telling you what you are allowed is gaslighting?
I don't believe you. That is my stated opinion. It has no more effect on you than your blather does on me. We are not required to believe anything a random on the interwebs says, unless they identify as transgender, of course. Do you?

Popchyk · 13/06/2018 21:08

daim, thanks for answering but could you answer my specific question?

How do you define female? Does it include male people?
