Mumsnet moderation of trans rights and gender critical issues

JustineMumsnet · 13/06/2018 09:31

Hi all,
We've given lots of thought to our moderation policies around trans rights and sex and gender issues and thought it would be a good idea to articulate where we stand in the form of a clear statement, so everyone can be clear about our moderation going forward. You can find it here. Hope it provides a helpful reference point. Thanks.

If MNHQ give me a choice of approved terms that meet these requirements, I will use them.

Me too. I think MN would have to schedule someone to daily reviews of their chose terms though to check that they aren't committing heresy.

tobee · 13/06/2018 18:24

Looking back in history appeasement doesn't really work.

Dinosaurchicken · 13/06/2018 18:25

Angry I will not be calling biological males women.

Males who identify as women will have to do.

Nor will I be quiet over the erosion of female only spaces.

JoanSummers · 13/06/2018 18:27

I think I'm also going to start using [you know who] or [they who must not be named]

PermissionToSpeakSir · 13/06/2018 18:27

Males who identify as an unrealistic fantasy of 'woman' that can include males even though it can't?

FermatsTheorem · 13/06/2018 18:28

Oh well, since the Spartacus thread has been pulled, here goes.

  1. David "Davina" Ayrton is a man who raped a teenage girl with his penis.
thebewilderness · 13/06/2018 18:29

I reported three personal attacks on people yesterday. One of them on me. I hope they will be replacing the thank you for reporting, and the encouragement to report more, statements in the mod responses with cautions that reporting abusive language that is passive aggressive or innuendo will get you banned.

FermatsTheorem · 13/06/2018 18:29
  1. Martin Ponting/ "Jessica Winfield" is also a man who raped a woman with his penis.
FermatsTheorem · 13/06/2018 18:30
  1. Peter Laing/ "Paris Green" is also a man who brutally murdered another man (tied him up, beat him and tortured him to death).
Waddlelikeapenguin · 13/06/2018 18:30

I find the clarification more confusing than the original Confused genuinely dont understand how we are meant to refer to xx people who stonewall say are trans.

lang Grin

Does Ally have it?
AllyMcBeagle
Would biologically male transperson (BMT) and biologically female transperson (BFT) be acceptable?

FermatsTheorem · 13/06/2018 18:30

Bye all, was nice knowing you.

PurpleCrowbar · 13/06/2018 18:30

Deleting the Spartacus thread is truly shameful.

But what Pratchet said.

busyboysmum · 13/06/2018 18:31

Spartacus thread pulled. Why? What is happening to freedom of speech? Dark times indeed.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 13/06/2018 18:31

MWIAAUFOWTCIMETIC Grin catchy!

thebewilderness · 13/06/2018 18:32

Gender Fabulists? GFs.

FermatsTheorem · 13/06/2018 18:33

Incidentally, in case this thread becomes like swiss cheese, I've just posted three posts dead-naming people born with penises who now identify as transwomen, who either raped or murdered other people and are in prison for these offences. In the case of rape, as we all know (barring a vanishingly small number of convictions for common enterprise) rape requires a penis - these people cannot be suffering much gender dysphoria if they go around using their very, very male penis to rape women with.

whoaml · 13/06/2018 18:34

I hope Mumsnet have an extra squad of moderators on duty.

The troops are rallying...

TERFragetteCity · 13/06/2018 18:34

'man who identifies as trans or man who identifies as a woman or men with AGP or man who just likes wearing traditionally female clothes'

MWIATOMWIAAWOMWAGPOMWJLWTFC'

Nailed it.

KataraJean · 13/06/2018 18:35

Women, know thy place.

JoanSummers · 13/06/2018 18:35

PWIAWBAWADRWs

"People who identify as women but arent women and don't respect women"

There's no men or male in that so it's acceptable right?

ToeToToe · 13/06/2018 18:35

I am Spartacus.

Human beings cannot change sex. Men cannot become women.

As I wrote on many of the Spartacus threads, DH thinks I spend far too much time on MN, and far too much money buying stuff I read about on MN threads. So ban me, if you like MNHQ - you'll be making yet another man very happy Wink

I de-regged and re-regged after that intern posted user's IP addresses on Twitter, because it made me feel unsafe. I've been here for years - but a MN employee made me feel unsafe - because I want to state scientific fact that sex is a biological reality. But I still came back because this is an important space for women.

Mumsnet is a predominantly female space - where once discussion could flow freely with very light-touch moderation. Now, women's language is being policed and censored on Mumsnet, by Mumsnet, in accordance with the new gender ideology - an ideology that is damaging to women. This is a great shame.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 13/06/2018 18:36

They are males and they are trans. How on earth is TIMs offensive when that is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth???

Why are MN colliding in lies? The world is mad. Mad mad mad mad mad!!

Hyppolyta · 13/06/2018 18:36

I am a woman, as in an adult female.

My biology had had a huge impact on my life since the age of about 12.

My experience of being a woman isnt for some man to claim.

Nor am I willing to engage in long debates about what we should call these poor men, for fear of offense.

Are they bothered about offending us, when they claim to know what being a woman is better than we do?

No.

Males are not transwomen, or TIMs, or TIXY.

They are males.
Juvenile males are boys.
Adult males are men.

If anyone finds the English Language desperatly confusing or offensive, I suggest they find a language that does suot them to converse in, rather than police us.

Mumsnet can ban me, if they must.

I appreciate the job MNHQ do, and this used be a brilliantly supportive site.

However, if Im required to lie to stay a member, Id rather leave.
