The next time you send an email about a poster to that poster by mistake. Probably best not to refer to your users as 'these people'

Context is all. I don't have a problem with MNHQ calling trollhunters "these people", they're incredibly irritating. Particularly if you were trying to get round your suspension by re-registering, which it looks suspiciously as if you were.

TheRealBiscuitAddict · 23/08/2017 18:23

Troll hunting can be something as simple as putting a Hmm on a post. It's a very broad spectrum and I doubt there are very many posters who have never expressed any kind of concern on a thread ever.

Ceto · 23/08/2017 18:24

Saucery, I suspect the point is not that OP got in touch about her suspension, but that she tried to get around it by re-registering - hence the reference to her saying that she was XXXX, i.e. the person using the new name.

Emmageddon · 23/08/2017 18:24

Oops . Feel a bit sorry for the person who pressed send on that email!

You can see nothing wrong with sending me an email not meant for me then Worra.

That wasn't what I said.

Read back. I was clearly talking about the 'these people' part.

Ceto · 23/08/2017 18:27

But RealBiscuitAddict, AFAIK people don't generally get suspended for posting Hmm, they tend to get suspended because they're trollhunting pretty persistently and following repeated deletions and/or warnings. In fact I'm wondering whether OP is someone I've noticed recently who keeps leaping onto threads proclaiming that someone is a troll despite having messages deleted repeatedly.

They can't provide a Smiley and ban people for using it, Dixies! Or......can they?........ Hmm

Hahahahaha123 · 23/08/2017 18:29

Are you troll hunter hunting, Ceto?

OP posts:
IdaBiscuit · 23/08/2017 18:29

That's a bit awkward

Mysterian · 23/08/2017 18:31

Once you're banned I hear they just hide behind the sofa every time you send them an email. (Source Reddit poster). Surprised you got any message at all.

Hahahahaha123 · 23/08/2017 18:32

I haven't checked that email account for a few days. Was a lovely surprise Grin

OP posts:
theboud · 23/08/2017 18:32

The email shouldn't have come to you, obviously. But the context here appears to be a private email between MNHQ staff about a suspended poster who is using another registration to get around the suspension. And has PM'd another site user to let them know their 'secret identity' and been caught out doing so.

I'm not sure MN are the only ones who look a bit Blush in this scenario.

TheRealBiscuitAddict · 23/08/2017 18:32

No, the point I am making though is that most posters will have written Hmm on a thread at some point within their mn existence, and that those who say that all troll hunters are annoying have likely, at some point, expressed concerns or doubts about a thread.

Troll hunting is a very broad spectrum, there are of course people who go on to a poster's every thread to express their beliefs that said poster is a troll but equally there are posters who may only ever have expressed doubts about inconsistent details on a thread and equally those would be considered to be troll hunters.

And let's not forget that we have recently had an incredibly dangerous and damaging poster on the boards of late who almost succeeded in extorting money from MN'ers and that posters were banned for reporting their posts to MN HQ and that those bans were considered to be for troll hunting even though none of it happened on the actual threads in question.

Ceto · 23/08/2017 18:32

No, OP, but sometimes you can't help noticing when the same names keep popping up whenever there's a bit of trollhunting going on. I have no problem whatsoever with people going after trolls, I just think it needs to be done via formal reports to MN.

I'd be a bit worried about Reporting in future tbh. With emails going to the wrong people, who is to say your details wouldn't end up with the person you had Reported?

Hahahahaha123 · 23/08/2017 18:34

I wasn't registered on MN at the time of the these people email.

OP posts:
Hahahahaha123 · 23/08/2017 18:35

Like that would happen, Saucery.

Oh wait....

OP posts:
Saucery · 23/08/2017 18:36

Glacinda, I'm pretty sure flashing your biscuits at another poster would get you a stern email Shock. Whether that email would end up getting to you or going to someone else by mistake remains to be seen.

TheRealBiscuitAddict · 23/08/2017 18:38

So, given there seems to be some confusion:

You were suspended for troll hunting, whatever form that took (can you elaborate?) you emailed MN HQ about your suspension while still suspended, and they emailed back and said "isn't we engage with these people?" Give
