Why has Mumsnet HQ retroactively edited four deleted messages?

I do not want to start a thread about a thread. But I am in a Catch-22 logical bind here in that I cannot ask my question on the thread itself because the thread has been deleted.

So I am asking it here.

Why has Mumsnet edited its deletion messages on at least 4 threads? When the threads were initially deleted, they had deletion messages that said, among other things, our heart goes out to Poster X at this difficult time, and he assures us the support from Mumsunet has been helpful to him.

Another thread said it was important to give Poster X the benefit of the doubt.

Those deletion messages have now been edited with a generic "its time to stop talking about this".

So my question is, why is MNHQ so keen to gaslight the members of his forum by retroactively editing deletion messages?

I can guess the threads you mean.
I guess MN may well know things they cannot divulge. They may well be acting on legal advice.
I think we might need to stop picking over the details of this for now, but maybe we could ask MN to get engaged in a more generic discussion about how to better protect people from those on the Internet from trolls/scams etc

They're gaslighting posters here. They could well be culpable in a potentially fraudulent JG scam - which they moved over to their charity boards. Either that or they endorsed a genuine poster - who was who he said he was - but turned out to be a very dodgy individual indeed - sexting MNetters, whilst supposedly at the bedside of his dying wife. They also banned decent poster who tried to raise the alarm. They're now covering their arses and stopping people talking about it. Not on, HQ.

A site and moderators can only deal with trolls, scammers once they have been identified.

Before then it is up to the users to educate and to protect themselves. There are some basic rules to follow, but once caught up in an emotive situation people forget the basics.

However, once flags are up then the site is responsible for dealing with that poster or thread in a way that protects the other posters.

If it's a Lawyer thing then why have hq not said that in any of the messages they have posted today?

Because a statement like that could be tantamount to admitting some responsibility for people who have lost money. Lawyers will always advise to say nothing rather than risk a client admitting responsibility in this kind of situation.

1000 squids was donated from here and here alone to a just giving crowd funding site that was passed off as a charity and which hq allowed legitimacy by moving the thread with the ask that wasn't to the charities notice board

(Wonder how many times I have typed that since the weekend)

Woods sometimes people choose to give money in response to things that they have read on social media. Sometimes this might mean that people can feel that they may have given money to a cause that might not have been what they initially thought it was.

I honestly don't think anything is being done
And i doubt we'll ever get to the bottom of it unfortunately, but i do find it funny if the original deletion messages have been changed to something like OP has said
