Please could we have a trans issues sub board in feminism?

The feminism chat board is getting overrun by trans threads at the moment and becoming the de facto trans board as a result.
I understand people want to discuss this and also that some people want to be able to hide it, but there is a lot more to feminism than trans issues.
If we had a sub board then feminism chat could go back to being, you know, feminism chat.
What do you think?

Dione, if you want to start non trans related or pro trans threads in feminist chat, no one is stopping you.

HumphreyCobblers · 28/02/2017 12:37

I think it is entirely necessary that we do not change the set up.

Everyone needs to know about this.

Women's rights are being eroded by transactivism, ALL women will be affected. We all need to know about it.

TinselTwins · 28/02/2017 16:35

If male/female is legally a feeling, then sexual discrimination laws no longer protect you. You can no longer argue sexual discrimination for workplace issues related to anything to do with your biology, because it's transphobic to say that women breastfeed and women menstruate and women need to not be punished for time off due to misscarraige
Because that is language excludes transwomen Hmm

TinselTwins · 28/02/2017 17:02

My local womens shelter does not allow donations from lone men (due to abusive partners sending messages to scare their partners in the form of e.g. the same bath set they gave them for last valentines day etc). Does not allow male staff to deliver donations to the location of the refuge. Etc.

The transactivists want to make it illegal and discriminatory to call a biological male a male if they want to be called a woman on Tuesdays, for any purpose, including that of the one above!

DioneTheDiabolist · 28/02/2017 20:34

Deforestation! Has anyone mentioned the deforestation that's endemic in trans ideology yet? They're male lumberjacks who wear high heels, suspenders and a bra. But they want to blame women for the resulting desertification.Shock

Please, please MNHQ, give the anti-trans activists their own part of MN, so I can hide the straw men, stupidity and fake news that they pass off as "Trans Ideology".

icyfront · 28/02/2017 20:37

OK, there is so much more to feminism than trans issues, but the current biggest threat to women’s safe places and protective legislation is because of the trans issue. It shouldn’t be sidelined into a sub-topic, because what feminism has been about for a very long time is to rail against our issues being sidelined.

The reason why so much of the feminism board is taken up by trans issue is because of an increasing number of women wanting to speak about this issue and its effects on us.

Can there be a separate board for unthinking uninformed virtue signallers too?

DioneTheDiabolist · 28/02/2017 21:02

That's AIBU venus.Grin

I would like an opportunity to talk about appropriation. Why its innappropriate to pretend to be disabled (however sincerely you might empathise with disabled people or feel a kinship with them) and why it's inappropriate to pretend to be black if you're not, but why it's acceptable to insist you're a woman when you're not. Not being goady. It's a legitimate question.

HelenDenver · 28/02/2017 21:07

Devi

I see your point about the number of FWR chat threads that are about this issue. It makes my heart sink a bit too.

I think it behooves us regulars to post more about other things if we want to change the mix, though.

Try Chat, maybe, rather than site stuff?

I should add that for me, we're all gender fluid. My objection isn't to men wearing the cultural hallmarks of stereotypical Femininity. On the contrary, I'm all for it, because gender is socially constructed and we should all tear it down. However, sex is biological fact and I wonder, if we weren't all so squeamish about using the word in daily life (for fear of people mistaking it for, you know, Sex) whether we'd be in the confused situation we've arrived at.

joystir59 · 01/03/2017 16:43

transwoman=oxymoron. If you are a woman you don't need to transition. Sick to effing death of transactivism and the mainstreaming of 'transgenderism' as a thing.

BarrackerBarma · 01/03/2017 17:33

If MN created a trans topic ghetto, it would become the only policed subject on MN which, if referenced outside the trans topic would be leapt upon by people "you can't talk about that here! Back to your ghetto"

Subforums are for the BENEFIT of posters who want to disuss niche subjects. It's not about sparing other posters knowledge of discussions taking place around them.

I don't support 'subject apartheid'!

They are not contrived justifications for others to censor free speech on the rest of the forum.

We all know how this would pan out.

And if MNHQ want more help deciding, the optics of providing a trans sub section on a predominately female forum which would primarily be constituted of feminists rejecting gender ideology... well that just doesn't look too good, does it?

DameDeDoubtance · 01/03/2017 17:51

Too important to sideline.

HelenDenver · 01/03/2017 18:07

You've clearly never seen a Christmas thread out of topic any time before late November

Wink

(Light hearted - I agree a sub topic isn't the answer)

Indeed.

DameDeDoubtance · 01/03/2017 18:40

I think the separate brexit topic has stifled debate in that area.

EatingMyWords · 03/03/2017 17:52

I'd love a separate trans thread. I can't be the only feminist who doesn't visit the feminist boards because of the anti-trans threads.

And there's so many trans threads in the rest of the site I seem to spend more time hiding threads than posting on them.

DameDeDoubtance · 03/03/2017 17:54

Our entire sex is about to redefined to include males, that effects everything, from the roots up.

venusinscorpio · 03/03/2017 18:17

Yes, it's just terrible that you can't "curate" your life to filter out the views of people who care about the rights of women.

EatingMyWords · 03/03/2017 18:20

I do care about the rights of women- including trans women Confused

Pleasejustgetdressed · 03/03/2017 18:24

Pleeeeaaaase. The trans stuff here is just ridiculous. Threads on it turn into a self-congratulatory echo chamber anyway.
