I've just had this for the first time. Midway through reading a thread. Sony phone, Android, mobile site, chrome.

Why is this still happening? [angry ]

Yet again I've been redirected, this time to 'you've got a virus click here to remove' cleared cache and shot down. Didn't have chance to screen shot. Android Sony experia.

TheBestNamesAreTaken · 19/08/2016 18:33

Still happening to me too, iPhone/Safari as before

booksandwool · 19/08/2016 19:10

Virus popup for me now, I can't even close the tab. And closing and reopening chrome isn't doing it. So my whole browser is fucked.

shggg245 · 19/08/2016 19:24

Must say I'm concerned (still here mind) and would also like some reassurance from mnhq. I was sent to the same site as RNBrie just upthread.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 19/08/2016 19:31

I had the porn one this morning

I'm cross about this actually as I sometimes give my 3 year old my phone to watch Amazon prime on. I don't tend to shut safari as I only tend to have newspaper and mumsnet sites open and I supervise him with the phone. However, there is the odd moment that I get distracted by the baby and I hate to think he might click on the safari app and accidently load a porn page

I know the answer is to shut all links on safari and I will do that from now on. But it's a bloody PITA.

SealSong · 19/08/2016 19:38

Why does MN have SO MANY of these kinds of issues compared to other websites? It just happens so often it's ridiculous.

MNHQ you really need to address this properly, not by little tech fixes that solves the problem temporarily.

Other websites manage to avoid the sheer number of issues that this site does; I fail to understand how MN can have the amount of problems that it does!

DriveInSaturday · 19/08/2016 21:37

I've been getting the Cirplana 'you have a virus' one too, with a badly spelt message from 'Google', on Android.

RatHammock · 19/08/2016 21:43

Me too. Trying to read a thread about nobbly bobblies and was faced with a porn site featuring mature sluts. Sort it out please.

TheWeeBabySeamus1 · 20/08/2016 17:41

All quiet for a while, but just had another pop up for something called X dates. Only happening on this site.

DawnMumsnet · 20/08/2016 19:35

Hi all,

Our Ads team have asked if we can post the following:

We know this is a complete nightmare and we are working with multiple experts to get to the bottom of this.

We are testing various solutions and are monitoring your comments really closely which essentially tell us what's working and what's not.
Can we please request when you see the offending ads that you tell us the following;

  1. the exact page you were on
  2. the click tag of the ad - this will really help in finding the culprit
  3. where you are located
  4. which device you were using
  5. were you using wifi or 3/4g connections
  6. screenshots of ads
  7. exact time when issue appears, this is critical so we can align back to the work we are doing

We really appreciate all the info you've given us so far, but we do need all of the above to piece things together.

We are only asking asking because no one at MNHQ, nor the experts we are working with, can replicate this issue, which makes it incredibly hard to fix.

We are monitoring the thread very closely so all your comments are super helpful. Please do also tell us if you do not see the issue so we can start to eliminate our partners.

Many thanks indeed, and huge apologies again.

MirrorMirrorOnTheFloor · 20/08/2016 21:24

Don't know if this helps narrow it down, but it only happens on my iPhone, not on the iPad.

Also, what's a click tag?

DawnMumsnet · 20/08/2016 22:22

Hi Mirrormirroronthefloor,

A click tag is the destination url of the page the ad is on or is trying to take you to.

It can be a long string of code or as simple as www.xxxxx

When was the last time you saw the issue?

MirrorMirrorOnTheFloor · 20/08/2016 22:31

Last saw it on my phone a few days ago (posted on this thread) but then realised that it's only been a problem on the phone, never on the iPad, and thought that might be helpful for you to know. Thanks!

BertieBotts · 21/08/2016 09:21

Got this this morning. Made my phone vinrate too! I live in germany.

On wifi. Time is on Screenshot (bear in mind I'm an hour ahead of UK time)

I use a galaxy s5 mini. This is the first pop up I've had in weeks.

I can't do URLs without reloading the page so hang on.

BertieBotts · 21/08/2016 09:21

Oops forgot Screenshot.

My husband is so worried about this he doesn't want me to use mumsnet on my phone any more because he says these pop ups link to ransomware.

BertieBotts · 21/08/2016 09:49

He reckons the cause is either a bad ad provider or an infection in the database.

I'd have my money on ad provider since I noticed last time this happened it happened whenever the ad on the page loaded up blank.

DawnMumsnet · 21/08/2016 10:59

Hi BertieBotts

Thank you so much for the info - please be assured this is being treated with the utmost priority.

We will be passing all your feedback to our security team.
We hope to find the source of the issue soon.

BertieBotts · 21/08/2016 11:05

Thanks. I don't want to stop using MN! It's the only good parenting site which isn't American! :(

AngieMumsnet · 22/08/2016 11:54

Hi Again,

Once again thank you all for you feedback, I wanted to assure you we are working with multiple partners to understand the root cause of this issue but we are still unable to replicate the virus pop up and porn redirects.
We have access to tech which allows us to change our locations and device type but are still to find anything.
As mentioned in a previous post we are testing a few different things and we have implemented a very tight white list of partners we are working with, but from time to time we will release some additional partners, this is the only way we can find the culprit.
We really appreciate all the feedback as it is our only real measurement of what is working, can I please request you tell us as soon as you encounter an issue OR even if you do not, both bits of feedback are equally as important in ruling out partners.

BertieBotts · 22/08/2016 12:05

Thanks for updates :)

I used the mobile site briefly this morning without issue. But have been on desktop most of the time.

Eastpoint · 24/08/2016 12:18

Levis ad multiple times today. I'll screenshot it next time it happens but I'm always on wifi on my iPhone, last happened at :15 past the hour (I'm overseas right now).
