What is Mumsnets definition of transphobia?

That's it really.

Mine would be hate or violence against trans people. Mine would not be "misgendering" or acknowledging transwomen are male and that they are not women.

Ugh that thread is disgustingly racist, sexist and goady. I was going to comment but it's a waste of typing

As a famous sportswoman has been in the news today, I can guess what that thread is without even looking. Sad

Fair enough on Paris Lees, I've only ever met her in social settings and not got into big discussions so I'll take your word(s) for it!
I do think though that privilege is something that affects a group in general not every individual, and there are men / transwomen who haven't experienced much privilege because they've had shitty lives in other ways. Not every transwoman is a Caitlyn Jenner.

I don't know why I put Paris in bold... probably something to do with male privilege Grin

Sorry ego, I wasn't suggesting you have asd and it wasn't a dig - just that (as I have asd) the statistical link makes me uncomfortable. Iyswim?

Vashta - the male privilege required to think that being sexually harassed by men isn't a problem for women and they should be grateful is not the same thing as being insulated from poverty and bad things happening to you. It's not a value judgement on how great someone's life is. It merely means that this is rarely a problem for men, so they don't think it's an important problem for women. For Paris it's a validation of Paris's identity and not something negative. But Paris was commenting on how women should feel about it.

Paris Lees has written about how great catcalls & sexual objectification are for women (don't we all want to be treated like a piece of meat and have a dick shoved in out mouths to shut us up?)

Lees now says: "Radical feminists should be absolutely delighted and grateful to the trans community because they’ve been going on about abolishing gender for decades and it looks like we’re finally making some headway with that. We know that the more polarised gender is in a society the greater the violence women face. So anything we can do to lessen gender segregation is good for everybody, but in particular for women.”

Radfems want to abolish gender, not sex. Lees is (wilfully? ignorantly?) mixing the two. Women need sex-segregation because of the violence we face, and Lees' perpetuating misogynist, gender-stereotypical crap is only going to make that violence worse.

I get really upset with people explaining (and that is the word) that I am delusional, that I am mentally ill and that I just need therapy.

I can totally understand why you would be upset with that, and it's not nice for them to direct that at you. But that you naturally feel that way as a person doesn't have any bearing on the truth or otherwise of that view.

Paris Lees doesn't have the first fucking idea about what is good for women.

MN is one of the very few places online where ended critical discussion is allowed. I sincerely hope that does not change

Ego AFAIK you're the only regular trans person who posts on the trans threads and FWIW I also think it's important to have that POV in these discussions, and I for one do appreciate your input even if I don't agree with absolutely everything you say. Hope that doesn't sound patronising Confused

Hope your surgery goes well!

Ego, this is Stefonknee Wolscht, trans-six-year-old who has advised the Canadian government on trans issues.

Tara Hewitt is the NHS national lead on equality & diversity. This comment comes from a recent discussion about transwomen in women's sports, during which Tara also said that anyone who recognises biological differences between the sexes is a neo-Nazi bigot who should join UKIP:

"A trans woman is just entitled to play sport with women as a black woman or a gay woman or any woman your really a vile person".

Note the assumption that the only women concerned about these issues are the straight white ones.

Sophia Brooks should be Sophia Banks, sorry. A Canadian activist who appears in the media, who's very vocal online about female penises and the cotton ceiling and who has been known to invite people to "suck my formaldehyde-pickled balls".

How an one mentally be detached from their anatomical reality without it being a mental illness?
