He doesn't understand anything much unfortunately.

The word disorder is used in the NICE guidlines for Autism btw. I Just read them again. Yes I can see that some people find disorder offensive but I'm still not convinced that everyone should know it's a offensive term without explanation. I didn't know people was offended till recently. I have never used the word with derogatory intent towards my own children or others.

I don't want to derail. So I will leave that there.

I thought part of the point of this thread was that posters shouldn't be expected to educate and that MN should have our back and delete disablist posts which they have done.

Yet now on this safe space thread there have been people questioning us about why they were deleted and what we find offensive, and IMO there are snarky overtones and mentions of political correctness.

I don't find word "disorder" particularly offensive. But if some people do, then that's up to them.

No one here is trying to impose some sort of set rules upon people. We are all different people.

We just wanted MNHQ to delete disabilist posts and they have.

I don't personally feel happy with the direction this thread is taking and will bow out for now.

Giraffe - it's pretty badly titled and was a long time ago but very sensitive and thought provoking.

He met some people with very severe (actually dx) OCD who couldn't leave the house. Not all had clean houses Hmm and he looked at different presentations.

At the end they assessed him and he scored just short of OCD but with significant obsessive compulsive traits - like he scored 58% and 60% was the level at which they'd apply the label.

Sidetrack, sorry. But I think Channel 4 are - or at least used to be - good at sensitive, intelligent, balanced documentary making.

Mrs Hathaway the main condition I struggle with is OCD - why the Hmm at people with OCD not having clean houses? Mines a tip at the moment BECAUSE the OCD is bad and I can only cope with doing the bare minimum. I'm also in a lot of pain due to 2 other conditions which has 2 effects

It's physically difficult to do the housework

It contributes to my low mood which worsens the OCD

Also OCD isn't just about hygiene. As it happens mine is mainly germ related but I also have issues with checking, safety (electrics etc). Some have OCD issues relating to religion, politics or sex/sexuality.

You mean like that fibre cloth stuff that is becoming common to use as tea towels?

Can't stand the stuff. Even the thought it is making my spine tingle

Worth checking out? Might just be your own personal quirks but if you suspect at all might be worth checking out

Hope you get somewhere with them. Good luck

MrsHathaway · 28/06/2016 22:56

Sorry Bacon - Need interpreted the face correctly. Telly thinks OCD is only cleaning too much, on the whole; the programme looked at other compulsions.

Baconyum · 28/06/2016 23:00

Mrshathaway ok sorry

BeyondTellingEveryoneRealFacts · 29/06/2016 08:42

Bacon, my house is also a tip because of ocd, people often dont get it. I cant just do a little bit. I'll sit on thr floor detail cleaning the washing machine and leave three weeks washing on the dining table...

Baconyum · 29/06/2016 16:05

Yes beyond 'just do some laundry/dishes/whatever and you'll feel better' but just doing the dishes will take 2+ hours (because of rituals) make me more stressed which will make the OCD worse etc etc I'm building up to it, doing stuff every other day at mo as it's taking me a day in between to release anxiety. Did the shopping yesterday was in tears by time I got home due to all the manky people I had to work round. And I know it's not them to blame and it's my issues before anyone starts. But I'm really struggling just now. Shopping also messes me up in terms of increased pain due to the bending and lifting. And no can't shop online as live arse end of nowhere that doesn't get deliveries (can't even always get mail order stuff)

Samcro · 29/06/2016 16:41

why has this thread been hijacked?
why not start your own.
I keep thinking someone has posted about something to do with the thread.

KateMumsnet · 01/07/2016 16:14

Hi all

Just coming back on 'beyond the pale' in the Talk guidelines. As far as we can tell, it hasn't been brought to our attention before on MN, and it does seem as though, in current usage, the expression really has been detached from its 17C origins.

It's also unclear that its etymology, even when people are aware of it, is considered derogatory - certainly nowadays folk use it to mean 'gone too far' or 'stepped over the mark', where the pale indicates a line of some kind.

Of course if there's a lot of support across MN for changing it we'll happily review things - but we're going to leave it where it is for now.

Thanks all.

Plasticine01 sent me a message, but it was deleted by MNHQ before i had a chance to read (I assume so anyway, i was notified about a message but it's not there) can anyone give me an overview, or was it trolly nonsense?

BeyondTellingEveryoneRealFacts · 01/07/2016 16:18
