Thanks HQ A step in the right direction, I think.

AnecdotalEvidence · 26/06/2016 15:25

Thank you MNHQ

Baconyum · 26/06/2016 19:02

Thanks mnhq

Perhaps in each mnhq post and email related to this (and other bigotry) you repeat this

Swearwords and offensive language
It's not our policy to delete swearwords (we're all adults, after all) but we do draw the line at obscenity, racist, ageist, disablist, homophobic or transphobic language, and wording that is truly beyond the pale.

From talk guidelines?

Live and learn. Its one i'll not be using again.

Baconyum · 26/06/2016 19:12

But happy to give my own suggestion (especially as part Irish)

Swearwords and offensive language
It's not our policy to delete swearwords (we're all adults, after all) but we do draw the line at obscenity, racist, ageist, disablist, homophobic or transphobic language, and wording that is deliberately intended to hurt, anger or offend

Hows that?

Baconyum · 26/06/2016 19:14

Fwiw I think all mners should be required to read talk guidelines (and answer 2/3 randomly generated questions on them to prove this?) Before being able to post.

Baconyum · 26/06/2016 19:15

The irony of a racist phrase being used to warn against using...racist phrases, just spotted that

And today I learnt there was one in Russia and Jews were kept outside.

No, it's the opposite - the Pale of Settlement refers to the area of Jewish settlement in Imperial Russia.

Good to gave some feedback from MNHQ. Smile

NeedACleverNN · 26/06/2016 21:33

Isn't it like saying a child is having a paddy? I had that recently pointed out to me that some Irish do not like the phrase

Flouncy · 26/06/2016 21:41

But some refferences say that being in a paddy comes from forces being stuck in a (rice) paddy field.

Either way someone pointed out she doesn't like the comment as she found it racist. We ended up having a long discussion on here
