Can I switch off the huge ads (please)?

Absolutely HUGE ads are taking up half the screen this morning. They are massive!!! Running down both left and right sides of the page and leaving very little space for any actual threads.

Is there a way to switch them off please? I want to read thread conversation content not look at twee adverts for stuff I don't want (and am even less likely to want now given that they are annoying me!)

Can I switch off the huge ads (please)?

Still at it. Are these here to stay now?

Quite agree re the morning after pill advert. Just want to see when I'm miscarrying for the second time in a row.

As for the Littlewoods advert, it's just really really annoying and distracting!

I have Clarks shoes now.

Emergency contraception earlier and yesterday.

As well as all the blogs - which I never read as I assume they pay for being promoted - and the SEAT one at the top, and the sponsored surveys, and the request to subscribe on YouTube, and the British Airways one at the side, and the product reviews with links to buy . . .

Ahhhh relief. Just installed adblock which took about 10 seconds and the hideous great adverts are gone. Is MN saying they were there accidentally?

Huge ads are back for me too - the creepy morning after pill one and enormous pink clarks and littlewoods adverts.

I'll look at adblock...

It's not just the ads, it's the time it's taking to load pages as a result too.

Why does it take days for an inappropriate ad to be removed?

I don't really want to install Adblock because so many websites rely on selling adverts to be able to run and to pay their staff fairly. If everyone did this then websites like Mumsnet would eventually not be financially viable.

The other option is to stop using Mumsnet until better decisions are made about how willing they are for the site to be a pita to use in order for them to have these awful wrap-around ads, which presumably are more lucrative.

I don't mind the old-style adverts down the side of the page as they are easier to ignore once you have glanced at them.

But these huge M-A-P advert banners down the sides are really pissing me off because of the content, and the Littlewoods advert is annoying because it's so in-your-face bright that your eyes are drawn to that more than the text you're trying to read.

I'm a grumpy mumsnetter. Humph!

Any news HQ? Do we have to report this thread to get an update?

Can you at least confirm that they are not deliberate and not here to stay?

I don't mind having ads but these are ridiculous and annoying so I think posters will have to use adblock if you keep them there.

They are still there, MNHQ!

Any news?

Unicef, Clarks, Littlewoods and ellaOne.

Please get rid of them!

I have been quietly seething about these huge ads for days, fair enough you need advertising monies, but to give over what appears to be almost 50% of your page to it, just not on really, unless you are changing it to Mumsnet, mostly advertising and some chat forum!
It make the post barely visable, they disappear into the mele at the top and side.
Come on HQ a serious rethink is needed here, I know we like a little moan when things change, but this is ridiculous.

If we keep bumping the thread it will get onto 'trending'. Then anyone who clicks will keep it there. All the advertisers will see that posters are being forced to use adblock and may decide to withdraw their ads. Maybe that would encourage HQ to deal with this Wink

Hi all,

Thanks for your posts and feedback.
Yes, it is a new thing and we've been tweaking it to see how it works.

The new skins will run across the site but you shouldn't see them more than once per hour, please do let us know if you do.

Apologies for the lack of response and conflicting info, it took us a bit longer than normal to get to the bottom of what was happening.

Obviously, we'll be listening to your feedback, as ever so please do keep it coming.

Ok, well thanks for the update. My feedback is that I will start using adblocker.

Thanks for the update, Rebecca. Sadly Zombie has already gone over to the dark adblock side. The wrap around ads made the site unusable for her.

Yup, uBlock (better than adblock!) reluctantly installed, the ads make the site unusable.

Please can you just remove the Morning After Pill ad? I don't think it's something Mumsnet should be pushing.

I'd rather have constant small ads (which I'd not bother blocking) than intermittent huge ones that are unpredictable.
People really hate unpredictability.

Spiders- of course it is!

Weirdly after weeks and weeks the big ads have finally gone from my phone !!!

Not a single ad here, thanks to adblock. Solves all the problems!

I agree these are too intrusive. It seems we're serving both reskins (the wrap-around ads) and leaderboards/billboards (top ads) at the same time. That's a mistake and we'll fix asap. We'll also reduce the frequency of the wraparound ads - they do generate more revenue but agree they are quite in you're face so we'll cap them to show only a few times a day.

Sorry for any upset - we'll sort this asap.

We don't currently have any restrictions on advertising the Morning After Pill on Mumsnet. Just wondered what the objection is?

As posted above, for many members it is triggering.
