Can I switch off the huge ads (please)?

Absolutely HUGE ads are taking up half the screen this morning. They are massive!!! Running down both left and right sides of the page and leaving very little space for any actual threads.

Is there a way to switch them off please? I want to read thread conversation content not look at twee adverts for stuff I don't want (and am even less likely to want now given that they are annoying me!)

Can I switch off the huge ads (please)?

DawnMNHQ It was clothes down the sides again (Very? not 100% certain). I think the top was UNICEF.

Hi DawnMN They are very sporadic, I just saw the same advert again when searching for something, but they seem to be when I'm browsing through threads, like I say very sporadic. It's on the desktop site. Seems to be mainly that advert, and I totally understand particular adverts pop up when you've been browsing for similar things online, but there's no way on earth I'd be looking for contraceptives, especially MAP. Im not sure who would be responsible for which adverts we're seeing but, regardless of the advert content, they are very annoying.
Thanks for the flowers

Thanks, Iseenodust - we'll get our Ads team to take another look.

Frazzle - next time you see the ad, can you check whether there's a little blue triangle at the top right corner? This would mean it's an Ad Choices placement (loosely based on your search history), and if you click on the triangle you should have the option to opt out of receiving ads from particular groups of companies.

Do please let us know either way.

Many thanks.

Zombie is getting more and more of these. These are 2 from the last hour.

They really do make the site difficult to use.

I have the sidebar ads back again - they are awful, really interfering with being able to spend time on the site.

Hate them! Totally unconnected with my search history (morning after pill). Please make them go away.

You need adblock, this is what I see...lovely white nothingness either side and no pop ups!

How do I get that Hector?

Fairenuff I have just google searched adblock - was the first option that came up and it is a chrome add on/extension. Free which is also a bonus! Just installed so will see if when I refresh this page the ads disappear.

It's back again, same advert. In fact it's on this thread too, now.
No triangle to change ad choice either

I screenshotted the previous page I was on:

I have the same side ads as Frazzle. Am on preteens topic & not been searching on anything contraception/pregnancy related. At the top I have nice n easy which looks like a smaller ad but above it is a white zone with "watch" in a box so can only see first line of OP without scrolling.

I just had the enormous emergency contraception ads too but the whole side panels are now clear. I came on here to complain about them on another area of the site but can't see them there either now.

OK now I have an ENORMOUS Unicef banner plus Very ads round the top and sides.

Enough already.

Think of us poor souls with only a mid-band offering - not even Broadband. I get 1.1 Meg at home (on a good day) and only double that at work so these ads take f o r e v e r to load and sometimes (on mobile devices) block out the top of the talk menu.

It's worse than ever now. Massive all round advert of fucking Littlewoods!

I don't mind little, (relevant) adverts here and there, but this is ridiculous.

It's my work machine, doubt I can install it. But the ads shouldn't even be there, they never were before. Something needs fixing.

Sorry frazzle, that wasnt aimed at you specifically, just a general question.

MNHQ Hellooo anyone there ?
Now I have Littlewoods top & sides and Sky top. Can see no threads at all unless scroll. If doesn't improve soon & we all go for ad blocker presumably ad revenue to MN will fall ?
