Can we have a topic where name changing is not allowed?

Lots of people feel the 'atmosphere' has been somewhat lost, due to MN becoming so big and so many people name changing for dubious reasons.

So how about a new topic where name changing is not allowed?

So to post in that section, you choose a different name (much like in Mumsnet local). But you have to stick to that name only.

That way, in that section at least, there would be less arses/goady fuckers/Billy bullshitters and drama llamas, hiding behind name changes.

People will become 'regulars' again (in that section at least) and when you go there to chat, you'll at least 'recognise' other people.

OK I'm sure there are 1 million reasons why this is a stupid idea/impossible to set up, but can anyone think of them? Grin

My eldest DS is a dead ringer for Rylan but without the teeth.

That sounds like my DS doesn't have any teeth? Confused

He does, they just don't look like gravestones.

MrsV we'd better just carry on painting on our cave walls then...

GrouchyKiwi · 29/12/2015 23:03

Think this is a lovely idea &c.

But I really must know more about the KFC gravy. Haven't had it for years (I pine for NZ KFC potato & gravy side dish): how does one obtain it?

RustyBear · 29/12/2015 23:07

Zombie- I worked at quite a few of the Merton libraries -first at Raynes Park, with occasional days at the main Wimbledon library, then Morden and Morden Park with a few forays to Collier's Wood and Mitcham and finally I was head librarian at West Barnes, till I went on maternity leave and never went back.

OddSocksHighHeels · 29/12/2015 23:09

The Morden and Colliers Wood libraries are lovely.

Thornrose · 29/12/2015 23:10

Flowers in the attic and all the weird follow ups were my books of choice as a teen. I guess it was the equivalent of inappropriate Internet use in the 80s?

RustyBear · 29/12/2015 23:11

They've probably changed a bit since I was there, OddSocks - the baby I left to have was 28 yesterday...

OddSocksHighHeels · 29/12/2015 23:12

Possibly then Grin

I think there was talk of shutting the Colliers Wood one at one stage, I'm not sure whether that's still going ahead. It would be a shame if they had to.

BathshebaDarkstone · 29/12/2015 23:15

Worra yuk. I won't be dipping my chips in anyone's man-gravy.

Queenbean · 29/12/2015 23:26

What's the weekly round up?

Is it chicken based?

BearPursuedByAnExit · 29/12/2015 23:29

Man gravy 😱

Whoops.

EduCated · 29/12/2015 23:33

I'm almost more proud of having been quoted in round up than my degree.

OddSocksHighHeels · 29/12/2015 23:46

Edu Grin

4 years and I've never seen a talk round-up. I have no idea if I've been in one or not.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 30/12/2015 00:00

I think you can sign up to get the Round Up email if you go into your My Mumsnet.

Ive always had it, but since JeffreyGate I've been too scared to go into My Mumsnet because I heard so many horrific stories about what I would have to do and what I wouldn't be allowed to to do.

And I wouldn't be allowed to be purple any more and my OPs wouldn't be silver any more and it would all be chosen for me and I didn't like that at all.

So I wouldn't recommend it, just saying I think you can.

And breathe

ridingsixwhitehorses · 30/12/2015 00:05

I have been a regular for over five years with many different names and didn't even know there was. Sex topic. Off to find it now...

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 30/12/2015 00:08

It's quite new riding.

With a NN like yours you'll fit right in love.

You could start a new niche.

Queenbean · 30/12/2015 00:08

don't do it Riding!! Once you've seen things there they can't be unseen

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 30/12/2015 00:14

Six White Horses?

All at once?

She'll be fine Smile

OddSocksHighHeels · 30/12/2015 00:32

I do have talk round up. I've never opened one though Grin I didn't realise you get all your shit changed around if you fiddle with it. That's no good.

There's a really good post in the sex topic - something posted from a book about different positions (all look far too much work) and that one is genuinely funny. I don't really look at Sex otherwise.

OddSocksHighHeels · 30/12/2015 00:33

Ffs *e-mails. E-nails sounds like something you might find on the sex topic though.

AtSea1979 · 30/12/2015 00:40

I've been here 11 years and I've never seen the round up either.
I did stumble across the sex board though, wish I hadn't, it wasn't for me.

ghostspirit · 30/12/2015 00:42

i cant name change people still know who i am Hmm

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 30/12/2015 00:53

I guess the point of the round-up is to draw our attention to anything we may have missed.

For those of us who, ahem, keep up. It may be superfluous.

Am probably totally missing the point here but if you want an area where you can chat whilst being able to identify one another, can you not just have an ongoing group thread like the Brave Babes, wavers etc? I think people are less likely to wander into those threads/troll than they do with ordinary threads.

That way, those who want somewhere to hang out without GFs etc can do so.

It just seems like having a special topic set up for regulars is going to lead to people feeling excluded, there are often accusations of that anyway, with the 'royalty' comments.

I'm only putting that out there as a suggestion.

I like the NC facility because I am on one of the 'group threads' under a different name so some people on here know me in RL as well but I like being able to post on other subjects under a different name so that I can retain some level of anonymity. And it's obviously easier to be able to use my regular name on the ongoing threads I love my regular name, it's awesome - a lot of people don't take any notice of posters' names on general threads but you obviously want to be identified on the ongoing threads.

Or get rid of the ability to look up posters' posting history, so that people can't meticulously go through and piece together info. (That sounds a little paranoid but I just mean in the context of it being an anonymous site).

Obviously am not talking about sockpuppeting or anything like that, just that, for example, I might not want my RL friends from here to know I was also posting in another, possibly sensitive, topic.
