Troll Hunting

Another thread lost through thoughtless, unresearched, troll hunting.

Is it possible for MNHQ to start handing out bans for this?

It's not difficult to follow the rules, if in doubt report. Search the user name, then report if you still have doubts.

It's neither funny nor clever to drive upset and vulnerable people off their threads and away from the support and advice they sought by posting in the first place.

Well I have a problem with the 'net generally. There is just so much stuff on it. So I got all those links and had to choose. I read the Wikipedia article and a .gov.au article, and I am left more mystified than I was before.
On a couple of other fora I read, the consensus seems to be that a trl is someone who tries to provoke argument for it's own sake, rather than to seek solutions.
I like to consider hypothetical situations and discuss them with a view to solving current or future problems. So I am fairly tolerant of tr
ling.
MN seems (as this thread title shows) to be more concerned with the problem of Troll-Hunting. Which is an entirely new idea to me. It has come to me because I attempted on a relationship thread, to gently, respectfully, apologetically suggest that an OP was not moving much on our suggestions. A couple of other posters agreed with me. One said my post was "crap" and that I ought to change my username. Shortly later, my post was deleted!
If a lie or a scam is important, then expose them as such. As for "shit-stirring", well . . . . I would not bother with a forum if it did not address some controversies. Controversial views are going to upset some people.
On the relationships forum, it seems that peeps who have an essentially conservative ideology on monogamous relationships have free rein to use as much vile, abusive, inflammatory language as they like. Is this not "upsetting" to its targets?
