Mumsnet crashing on Iphone4

The 'app' (ugh i really, really hate that word) stopped working so i uninstalled and was using the desktop site but now that's packed up too.

It just crashes safari. Loads the page then nothing happens, it just wigs out and won't respond until i manage to close everything down. This has been going on for weeks and i've googled and tried the fixes suggested - deleting history and what not - but nothing works.

It's really annoying not being able to use it on my phone.

Is it just me or is this a problem others are experiencing that might be fixed?

Are you using the mobile site or the desktop one?

I'm having a few issues with mine but it's September and a new iPhone has just come out so that's to be expected!!'

heslimedme · 25/09/2015 23:53

I was using the mobile but that packed it in and some of the posts i found suggested using the desktop site but that's just as bad.

Moln · 25/09/2015 23:57

I've never used the App. Just the mobile site on Safari.

Not really noticed anything overly bad. It's crashed once today though.

heslimedme · 26/09/2015 00:00

Oh cripes. So it looks like it just me then probably.

I bloody hate my iphone, camera's crap and now no mumsnet.

What a shitter.

I have an iPhone 6 and it crashes all the time.

The site's fucked whichever way you look at it Confused

trixymalixy · 26/09/2015 00:16

I have an iPhone 4 and don't have a problem looking at mumsnet on the desktop site.

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 26/09/2015 00:19

It's not just you!

In the last week, MN has stopped working (mobile site not app) on my ancient but reliable iphone 3GS. It also doesn't work on my Ipad 1, but does have limited success on my iPad 3. Also no longer works on my fairly basic Kindle.

As you describe: page almost loads then freezes.

Not pleased

NerdyBird · 26/09/2015 01:09

Oh I am having the same problem! It's so annoying. I can use it ok on my other apple products but not the phone. No idea how to fix it, and now I can't use Safari unless I go through a link or something as when I open it, it tries to open the last page which of course crashes. I tried googling but couldn't find anything about it.

HappyAsASandboy · 26/09/2015 01:25

It's not just you :(

I have an iphone 4 and usually use the mobile site through safari, but it has just crashed safari for the last week or two. The app won't let me log in.

I am having a bit more luck using chrome to access the mobile site, but it is very slow and frustrating.

Desktop site works fine on the laptop.

CantAffordtoLive · 26/09/2015 04:07

No. Its not just you. Whatever is going on? :(

thundernlightning · 26/09/2015 04:17

I'm having trouble using the mobile site on my iPhone 4 too. It's been about two weeks. I really hope it gets fixed soon.

feckitall · 26/09/2015 08:11

It's not just iPhone ..I'm having problems on the mobile site with aibu.Chat is fine.. Confused aibu says tech problems

feckitall · 26/09/2015 08:12

Oh on samsung.. Blush

DawnMumsnet · 26/09/2015 09:55

Hi all,

We're going to move this thread over to our Site Stuff topic.

We're really sorry that things aren't working for many of you. The advice we've been given from Tech is to try clearing your cache on your mobile browser to see if it helps at all. There's info on how to clear your cache on different browsers (including for mobile devices) here.

There are other similar threads in Site Stuff and this has helped for some posters, not for others, but definitely worth a try.

heslimedme · 26/09/2015 19:28

I'll check out those fixes but i have already tried a lot of the suggestions.

Looks like no mumsnet for me anymore. Sigh.

Nice to know it's not just me though.

Do you need to update the operating system on your phone? I've also been having the same problem on my iphone 4 and I hadn't updated anything in ages. Updated today and it seems to be working fine now.

Moln · 26/09/2015 20:10

Which one were you on?

I'm on 7

DawnMumsnet · 26/09/2015 20:14

We're keeping our fingers crossed for you, heslimedme - clearing caches has worked for quite a few people today.

It's definitely also worth running any updates on your mobile, too, as suggested by al88. [Thanks, al88 :)]

I have the same problem. I can no longer use Mumsnet on my phone (iPhone 3). Fixes have not worked. It seems to stem from the adverts- the make it freeze and crash every single time. I have no patience for it. Can't understand why mumsnet aren't fixing it? I can't be the only one who can't afford another phone as it otherwise works well

elpth · 27/09/2015 15:19

Same problem here

Iphone 4S safari keeps crashing and I've had an enforced MN break for ten days Same on the iPad.
I tried clearing the cache and running updates but that made no difference. I can get onto the MN homepage but any page related to talk won't even load then crashes the browser. It doesn't matter whether it's following a link from google or directly refreshing a page I was on before this happened or following a link from the MN homepage. The bit visible on screen loads and then it gets stuck and freezes. Only way out is to force close safari. Oddly it doesn't happen on gransnet which I understand is the same tech team? I went there looking for help as I couldn't get on here at all!
Please help! I only managed to post this because I found the app but I really like the mobile site on safari.

elpth · 27/09/2015 15:21

That took four goes to post, has no emoticons and I couldn't see how to preview? Please help me get back on the mobile site!

ImperialBlether · 27/09/2015 15:26

Same here - another 4s. It happened about 10 days ago and I haven't been able to go on MN on it since. I can go on other sites, but once I go onto MN I can click Talk and then that's it - the whole phone freezes up.

HappyAsASandboy · 28/09/2015 14:55

I am posting this from the new talk app Smile

Early days, but the talk app looks like a great way forward for me!

FlumptyDumpty · 28/09/2015 17:02

Got the same problem. Cleared the cache but no joy. Something's definitely changed with Mumsnet - all other sites work fine. I miss reading Mumsnet on my phone Sad

Archfarchnad · 28/09/2015 17:28

I've had the same problem with my iPhone 4 on the mobile site using Safari. Very little problem using the mobile site on my iPod Touch 3rd gen (well, it's a bit slow, but was ever thus with the mobile site). As others have described, the mobile site for the iPhone was crashing Safari altogether, and clearing the cache does sweet Fanny Ann.

In desperation I've started using the app on the iPhone, which is actually working OK in the sense that it loads. Is this all part of your cunning plan to increase users of the app? Because the mobile site has features I like which just aren't there on the app (as yet), so I'm not well pleased. Not that the app is A Bad Thing at all, but it's Not Yet A Totally Good Thing.
