Mumsnet crashing on Iphone4

The 'app' (ugh i really, really hate that word) stopped working so i uninstalled and was using the desktop site but now that's packed up too.

It just crashes safari. Loads the page then nothing happens, it just wigs out and won't respond until i manage to close everything down. This has been going on for weeks and i've googled and tried the fixes suggested - deleting history and what not - but nothing works.

It's really annoying not being able to use it on my phone.

Is it just me or is this a problem others are experiencing that might be fixed?

I'm also having problems, not been able to use it for a while now on my phone. Which means I have to find something else to do whilst sitting in the dark while DS falls asleep. Not happy!

Also have an iphone4 (and therefore can't update it any more)

not working on my iPad either.....

LetBartletBeBartlet · 29/09/2015 09:50

YES! I haven't been able to open MN properly on my iPhone 4 for the last week or two.

I'm on iOS 7, and this has only been an issue in the last couple of weeks.

As with above, the page starts loading, but freezes and crashes my entire browser. I've got no issues with any other websites at all.

Hi all - Tech are still looking into this at the moment.

Just to clarify, are those using an iPhone/iPad having a slow loading page which then crashes? And those using Android or using the desktop site getting an error page?

Thanks for posting all.

IPhone user here- slow load, freeze, crash. Every time. Grrrrr

I have been experiencing a similar issue for the last two or three weeks. Being a luddite, I am still using IOS 5.1 on an iPad 2. When I try to view a talk page, the content loads partially before crashing the browser. Neither the Mumsnet tab nor any other tab is responsive until the browser relaunches itself. The problem appears whether I am using Safari or Chrome.

My workaround is to view the page in Safari with JavaScript disabled. Mumsnet seems to function well without JavaScript, although many other sites require JavaScript and so it may be necessary to change the setting back after leaving.

To disable JavaScript in IOS 5, go to the home screen and choose Settings. Select Safari in the left-hand pane, and then on the right turn off JavaScript.

If you have trouble changing this setting or want a more temporary solution, you can browse to Mumsnet through a proxy service such as hide.me/en/proxy. Enter the www.mumsnet.co.uk address in the box shown, choose More Options and enable Remove Scripts.

Hmmm I have been trouble for days, mumsnet just suddenly won't load, I am on iphone 5

Babycham1979 · 30/09/2015 17:30

The site is just dreadfully built. Crashes non-stop on my relatively new ipad using both Safari and Chrome, regardless of whether the cache is cleared or not.

It works reasonably well on my desktop PC running Firefox (but dreadfully with Explorer).

It's getting to the point where I'm going to give up on using MN, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Yep, slow loading page that then freezes and crashes Sad

Archfarchnad · 30/09/2015 20:19

"are those using an iPhone/iPad having a slow loading page which then crashes?"

What happened pretty much every time with the iPhone 4 (ios7) was that the blue loading bar would show up to a third or half loaded and you'd start to see the graphics loading - the three circles in the top right-hand corner and the grey discs to show how many answers there are always loaded first. Sometimes, but not often, text would appear for the first few thread titles. At that point the whole thing crashed Safari and wouldn't respond to anything else. I had to go to another bookmarked app (eg BBC) and load that first, and after that I could use Safari normally again.

iPhone user; yes, page appears to be loading then freezes and crashes safari completely, so have to shut the whole browser down and restart. Clear cache doesn't work. Chrome and dolphin exactly the same.
Mumsnet please please fix this.

thundernlightning · 03/10/2015 23:39

The page is loading for me now!

Archfarchnad · 04/10/2015 13:24

Ooh, it's working for me too! What fairy dust have you been waving, Tech?
So now I have the app and the mobile version on my phone, I can do a direct comparison over the next few weeks!

elpth · 06/10/2015 19:17

Working for me now too, thank you! Though meanwhile I've been quite enjoying the app
