it's come back on - weird, I've spent about an hour refreshing it, re-typing passwords, mouching around settings etc and nothing but post on here and it starts working again. The gremlins are definately playing naughty!

HarshbutfairTess33 · 20/08/2015 16:02

I am surprised that the police took it seriously.

In our county, the police operator would have told the caller to go themselves and check if the alleged miscreants were really armed.

It would have taken our police several days before they sent a PCSO out on foot to check it out.

itstooearly · 20/08/2015 16:04

Herderofcats, I'm getting that message too, can't sign in on my phone, have had to download the app to post this, I can sign in on that and on the laptop.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 20/08/2015 16:06

diddl

it is almost identical to what I did to myself by accident a few years ago.
I had one account I started with, but when I got my phone and was setting up app, I added a different account by accident! so for a very short time I had 2 accounts! Blush

Of course I told MNHQ about it all, who "blocked" the 2nd email, but that was my phone so I received no emails from that point onwards because I couldn't access 1st account from phone!
so if I ever reported a post (good or bad) in the last 2 years I simply didn't know what HQ replied to it. For all I know if I had been to be banned I never would've know unless they'd thought to PM me!

so, DH found the old account. requested new password for me. opened password reset email. reset password
I used this to log on . it worked
but then I got an email "enter password to confirm email address change" and that didn't work. kept on getting "error occured"
so looked at my acvount. it still had my 1st email address Angry Angry Angry

contected MNHQ, who has literally just has sorted it (I won't disclose how, for safety) but the fiddling they did worked, got another "confirm new email address" message, I entered new password - it's all good now, account shows my new email. HURRAH!

Apologies for essay, just wanted to say that they can sort your email change if needed.
does this help you?
Thanks

Gmail and aol were both associate with an old mumsnet account.
Different passwords
couldn't get in when I went to sign in to email.

SarfEasticatedMumma · 20/08/2015 16:10

"Those who can't log into Gmail - what happened? Were you logged on and were force-ably logged out, or had you logged yourself out and were trying to log back it when you discovered you couldn't?

Are you getting a message when you try and log in? If so, what?

Is Gmail your email for Mumsnet?
Have you logged into Mumsnet using Gmail/google?"

I re registered for here using my gmail address. I had reset the gmail password but kept forgetting it, so kept on having to reset it while I was at work. It was during that process that a new gmail account was created using my and dh's surname run together. I never use his surname so it was a bit odd. I then came home to use my normal device, and it seemed to work ok. I then tried to go in to delete the new hybrid account and Gmail said it couldn't find it, which was odd, as I had opened it and seen the new emails in there. It also had all my existing folders (weird) all empty.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 20/08/2015 16:10

I must add Tech & I figured out that I can't access old email account as a result of my email addresses mix up last year. I forgot all about it, until now.

but thought it might help, in case some of you did something similar by accident

tigerscameatnight · 20/08/2015 16:13

They are welcome to my aol account. It's all junk in it anyway Hmm

Allisgood1 · 20/08/2015 16:14

Still haven't been forced to log out Hmm

BishopBrennansArse · 20/08/2015 16:14

It's like my old, old account email (I'm talking 3+ years ago and not the one I use now).

I have two step verification and someone tried to get in.

theredlion · 20/08/2015 16:18

I was deregged then reregistered with another address yesterday.
Then when the password chuck out happened last night I tried to change it and log back in (with new account username) to find that the new account wasn't working either.
So for safety I deregged the second account late last night and this is me on my 3rd account with 3rd email address.

I'm one of the people who had dodgy goings-on with their phone too.

Wine or gin for everyone.

diddl · 20/08/2015 16:22

Maybe it's a coincidence & free accounts have been closed down!

So if I go with a new email, do I have to dereg?

Can't just chang email in "my account"?

00100001 · 20/08/2015 16:24

Question - you stated

"We believe that the hacker has used a password from the old hack to gain access to another system (external to Mumsnet) on which we store client information."

...wait... what you DIDN'T CHANGE THE PASSWORD FROM LAST TIME?

Hmm
AttitcusFinchIsMyFather · 20/08/2015 16:25

The twitter account seems to imply another "swatting" is about to take place :(

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 20/08/2015 16:25

They mean the old hack as in the one that gained the list if usernames and passwords, not heartbleed. They probably got the client list at the same time, but held on before releasing.

Pipbin · 20/08/2015 16:30

I see Jeffery has posted a Cambridge phone number on his Twitter.

NerrSnerr · 20/08/2015 16:31

I have just seen that on twitter too Atticus. Really scary if someone else is going to be on the receiving end :-(

SarfEasticatedMumma · 20/08/2015 16:31

I don't understand this 'anti-father' thing, loads of us are married to and love very dearly 'fathers'. No idea why there is so much anti mumsnet feeling, I find it very happy, supportive and fun on here.

leedy · 20/08/2015 16:33

If you're having issues with your gmail account, do use the gmail help centre, particularly the Security & Privacy page: support.google.com/mail/topic/3394218?hl=en&ref_topic=3394212&vid=1-635756814125352775-5104994436281438098

If the information on the page doesn't help you can also report problems through it.

They don't like women being told they are with abusive men, and women being told to not allowed abusive partners access to their children when this endangers them.

Having said that, I am pretty certain that "dad_sec" is about 13 and doesn't give a shit about all that. He's been on here and read the threads speculating about if this is the reason, and decided that pretending he is nobly doing this for downtrodden men gives his fairly pointless, random hack some gravitas , and helps to garner some publicity.

weffles · 20/08/2015 16:48

I reported the swat tweet and it's been deleted. I was silly enough to engage with him and am now terrified he'll target me.

SarfEasticatedMumma · 20/08/2015 16:48

I agree with you, I think the hack was financial in motive, hiding behind the 'anti-dad' sentiment but not so sure why there are women on twitter so anti us too. I find it very supportive on here, with very few vipers. I think the posts talking about small penis sizes of hackers pretty childish though.

NerrSnerr · 20/08/2015 16:51

Weffles- I just looked and I can still see it. The picture of the police.

00100001 · 20/08/2015 16:52

They got this information over a month ago.

oldsilver · 20/08/2015 16:53

MmmmHmm I mentioned way back on first thread, been having troubles with my email all of a sudden, never happened before. First night of hacking and I had "Unable to connect to myexampleemail@address". Didn't come back til late next morning to the extent I didn't get The Email saying to reset pw or both the pw resets I'd asked for til then.

Last night, same thing. Didn't bother with resetting pw when I was logged out - waited til I was able to connect to email.

I've been unable to connect this afternoon either. It's just come back.

I'm not on gmail, I changed my MN pw twice now. Not on "the list". I hadn't used my MN pw for anything else. This has not happened before. Maybe just a coincidence, but if anyone's building evidence up, it may possibly perhaps be relatedConfused
