Devilishpyjamas · 21/08/2015 14:04

Blimey - he must really be pissing the police off now.

howtorebuild · 21/08/2015 14:05

Flowers to those swatted yesterday.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 21/08/2015 14:07

Worra

there was a baby name questionnaire a few weeks ago. I objected on the thread about all sorts of details being asked by the research company. I hadn't taken part in too many, but even the basic form asked for email confirmation. I thought that was not something that should be asked, precisely because MNHQ already have that info.
Most people replied that it was normal though. I didn't like it nor agreed so didn't fill in the Questionnaire.

So you are right in raising this issue, maybe those threads should be suspended and MNers details not asked by 3rd party

Lweji · 21/08/2015 14:09
Sad

I hope it wasn't too bad. And that the police was careful considering the threats.

akkakk · 21/08/2015 14:11

Worra I have posted on that thread - the form looks secure and is collected by a 3rd party over https...

00100001 · 21/08/2015 14:12

Send the police round to his "mate" in Cambridge!

Pipbin · 21/08/2015 14:13

Poor MNer who got Swatted.
I know we are all taking this in a rather 'blitz' spirit but that must have been dreadful.

Hopefully this will give the police more ammunition against him.

WorraLiberty · 21/08/2015 14:13

Ahh I see, thanks.

DontTellThePrincessBride · 21/08/2015 14:18

Simurgh · 21/08/2015 14:19

I would imagine that they already take it seriously where he's from Pipbin.

OpheliaMoo · 21/08/2015 14:20

MNHQ I've had difficulties logging in today, reset password and finally got in. However when I come to chat it asks me to log in, even though I already am and can post Not sure if it's a tech issue?

DontTellThePrincessBride · 21/08/2015 14:20

If he is in American, why can't the American police arrest him? We have an extridition agreement with America, don't we?

SouthWestmom · 21/08/2015 14:21

All very odd. How many armed responses are there regularly I wonder? At what point can the police be sceptical?

Simurgh · 21/08/2015 14:21

TSSDNCOP, folks.

DontTellThePrincessBride · 21/08/2015 14:22

?

Simurgh · 21/08/2015 14:24

They're reading these threads Dont. We've been asked not to add petrol to the flames.

BuckyLastard · 21/08/2015 14:25

Flowers For the MNER swatted last night.

RepeatAdNauseum · 21/08/2015 14:25

DontTell He's American, not necessarily in America.

And the extradition agreement means we can transfer suspected or convicted criminals from one country to another. There is unlikely to be enough evidence to classify him as a suspected criminal yet, and it can a lengthy court process.

Pipbin · 21/08/2015 14:30

I think that's the issue Noeuf, they can't really take the risk of saying 'nah, this is a piss take'.

Other than wasting police time, has he actually committed a crime? Is it a criminal offence what he has done?

Juniper404 · 21/08/2015 14:32

If he's covering his back (which he will be doing) then his location will be masked. Basically, you can get through different country's security settings (or Virgin Media's, for example) by using a proxy host; it means the page is loaded in a different country and then viewed via a proxy website so it's not blocked by UK filters or ISP rules.
Consequently, an American IP doesn't mean much.

I really hope the police are not going in all guns blazing I know that's kind of the idea now they know these SWATs are most likely false. Not that they shouldn't go; of course they have to take it seriously, just I hope they are a bit gentler and not as trigger happy.

Devilishpyjamas · 21/08/2015 14:32

Yes it's a criminal offence www.serocu.org.uk/32/section.aspx/30/man_arrested_swatting_and_denial_of_service_offences
