Thanks and Wine for those who have been targeted. I hope you are as ok as can be expected x

JustineMumsnet · 21/08/2015 14:38

An update to say that according to the poster the police believe the hacker got her info from Twitter, not Mumsnet. She wasn't at the address targeted.

Both swats on Mumsnetters have come after they've engaged with @DadSec on Twitter - so clearly this looks like something to avoid.

StephanieBeacham · 21/08/2015 14:39

I think it is important that people block him on twitter and all his seedy little friends too. Don't follow, don't engage.

Thans Justine.

StephanieBeacham · 21/08/2015 14:40

thanks Flowers

DontTellThePrincessBride · 21/08/2015 14:40

Just to say, if the other person swatted is reading this, feel free to PM me if you want to talk or anything. Been there, done that, downed the emergency vodka Wine

Simurgh · 21/08/2015 14:41

Thanks for that Justine.

bittapitta · 21/08/2015 14:41

Why do people believe The Mirror story at face value? Softly spoken American guy could be a hoaxer.

BuckyLastard · 21/08/2015 14:43

I deregisterd and registered and now I am being logged out whenever I navigate away from the page despite checking the box to keep me logged in?.

LurkingHusband · 21/08/2015 14:43

Why do people believe The Mirror story at face value?

Because people like to believe what's in the papers they buy. Of course everything in the other papers is wrong.

My advice is to get the above post removed.

Pipbin · 21/08/2015 14:49

the hacker got her info from Twitter

I'm ashamed to say this but I will repeat it. A few years ago when I was going through a very hard time a woman said something simply dreadful to me on Twitter. I was so upset that I lost my shit and it was very easily about to find out so much about her through Twitter and Facebook.
I knew the full names of all her family, her pets, where her children went to school, her land line and mobile phone number, her postal address, her work address and phone number, the names of her children's teachers, the names and details of her work colleagues...........
I did nothing with this information but had I wanted to I could have unleashed utter hell.
That was me and I know fuck all. I wasn't a hacker, this was just publicly available information.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 21/08/2015 14:50

Thanks Justine for info

Hope you and your family are ok. Thanks

I second howto. Get that post removed.

headlesslambrini · 21/08/2015 14:53

Justine can you say whether or not this MNer was on the original list?

Do you know if he only got 3000 details or everyone's but just hasn't published them yet?

Have all Police forces been alerted to this?

I think we need a few more details if you csn give them.

Pipbin · 21/08/2015 14:53

Zing I doubt anyone from Mumsnet would say what she did. What upset me was that she looked last or a perfectly nice lady with a family and a nice house. Yet she said something beyond awful.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 21/08/2015 14:57

Pip as the old saying goes "don't judge a bitch by it's cover"Wink

sorry you were hurtThanks

twirlypoo · 21/08/2015 14:59

God your all right, sorry - it was a boldly stupid post. I've reported it now. Thank you and apologies for being an idiot (that will teach me to multi task!)

akkakk · 21/08/2015 14:59

twitter
if you are worried about twitter...
you can make your tweets private (to just those following you)
support.twitter.com/articles/20169886#
www.wikihow.com/Make-Your-Twitter-Account-Private

remove any photo of you on your profile - you can image search with photos - put up a generic photo not tied to you elsewhere...

don't use twitter etc. to log into other websites - you may be giving more of your twitter information to them than you provide on twitter, they may not respect your privacy to the same level...

use boring and not too unique a username where possible - you can track usernames across social networking, e.g. namechk.com/ (green shows what is free - i.e. doesn't have the username registered)

consider using different usernames across different platforms so that there is no obvious link

Very sad about latest swat. Such a pointless waste of time and money as well as horrid for those involved.

In nicer news, I love the pic of your treats on twitter, and I love that there are such lovely people in the world.

VivaLeBeaver · 21/08/2015 15:06

Can anyone confirm if it's true that a MNer has had their iTunes account hacked by Jeffery as it had the same password as here? Apparantly he was boasting that he spent £100 on their account?
