I'm looking for somewhere to post about bicycles and can't find the appropriate topic.

There is a weights topic. An Unexplained topic. Hmm

Is there a bikes one? BikeSmile

Managed to buy a new hat with a visor! My old man Carradice rain cover just fits over it.

Also seemed to buy a major bike lock when we have a metal cupboard full of bike gear including locks and two good U locks. This is why I don't go to the shops very often!

Have checked on my passport progress today ... all good Smile. Feel a bit sorry for everyone travelling through Calais this summer Sad, poor things.

Suspect Caen is much better for a short trip on bikes anyway but still.

DH has upgraded his CTC membership to family this month so we all get public liability insurance, obv a very good idea with my skills Grin.

He told me that he clocked 37 mph yesterday downhill Shock - clearly I was somewhere else having lunch at a museum with DD.

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 31/07/2015 07:11

I'd hang out on a cycling topic. That would be lovely. I shall make sure my padded shorts are clean.

BeccaMumsnet · 31/07/2015 11:55

Hi everyone - just to update you all, we are working on this and we haven't forgotten you.

lavendersun · 01/08/2015 05:34

Well, our French cycling weekend is definitely on Grin, passport marked as dispatched on Friday, I only posted it on late afternoon on Monday, not fast tracked or anything.

grannycake · 01/08/2015 06:10

Yes please - recent convert here

MeanwhileHighAboveTheField · 01/08/2015 09:54

Good good :)

There are 4 cyclists and 14.5 bikes in this household!

UniS · 01/08/2015 10:10

3 cyclists
9 bikes
1 trailer
10 unicycles

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 01/08/2015 11:54

At one point here, we had four cyclists and 9.5 bikes (0.5 of a bike was a frame and some other bits, iirc).

And I was informed there is a fairly easy formula for deciding how many bikes the household needs - Just one more. I do not argue with this, because I apply the same formula to books and yarn - and because bikes cost so much more than books and yarn, I can buy lots of books and yarn!! Grin

Oh - and I would love a cycling topic - pretty please, MNHQ.

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 01/08/2015 13:43

In my household there is 1 cyclist, 3 bikes and 1 trailer! And one inline skater and 4 pairs of skates.

prettybird · 01/08/2015 13:57

3 cyclists and 7 bikes (3 mine although to be fair, one is in the garden shed waiting to be sent to Common Wheel, the charity that refurbishes bikes): 4 road bikes (ds' old one has already been "sold" though, just awaiting a final service from the LBS), 1 track bike and one hybrid.

Dh is quite taken with my Specialized Allez since he rode it in Greece and all his recent rides have been on it Hmm. I can see him upgrading from his B'Twin Triban soon! Grin

We also have 3 extra wheels: one set of race wheels for ds and one grotty wheel for his turbo. He's angling for a set of race wheels for his track bike too! Shock

CoolWheelsPan · 01/08/2015 15:58

1 cyclist. 1 bike, but it's a beautiful Specialized Secteur, had it dressed this morning with mudguards. Fed up with rain water hitting the saddle and the feeling I've just cacked myself.Smile

AtiaoftheJulii · 01/08/2015 16:32

6 cyclists, 6 bikes. Plus another one that lives at the other end of the train commute, and two in the shed that are slowly being cannibalised whilst waiting to be passed on to the local bike repair charity.

If you're going to count balance bikes, I'd need to include our Like-a-bike Wink

memo to self, must pass on to my niece and nephew

LadySharrowofGolter · 02/08/2015 08:19

Good luck to any MNetters cycling the RideLondon today. I've been to have a look this morning and cheered you on Bike

VelmaD · 02/08/2015 09:28

We have three of us living here with three bikes. Plus two old spares in the garden. Plus DP who doesn't live with us but has three bikes himself, plus loads of samples as he sells them!

We did our first family trip yesterday with ds2 aged 7. Was hard work but hoping it gets easier for him!

And do and I have just poked a weekend away. With cycle trails. The bikes are coming I think! ;-)

pileoflaundry · 03/08/2015 15:59

2 cyclists, 6.5 bikes. 5.5 of them are mine. I have tried and failed to get it down to 4.5.

Am still recovering from Saturday's RideLondon (this was the gentle one, not Sunday's 100 mile race that LadySharrow was cheering on). Can barely move.

bearleftmonkeyright · 03/08/2015 16:04

Hi everyone! I am a member of a breeze group and really enjoying it. Yesterday I took part in this

www.goskyride.com/Breeze/ShowArticle/Breeze-sets-a-new-GUINNESS-WORLD-RECORD-title#z4hUjdy0s2t2hfJS.01

Was anyone else there? I would like a cycling topic also. Mumsnet would be a great place to promote Breeze.

BuggersMuddle · 04/08/2015 15:32

Ooh looking forward to new cycling topic. I always seem to find cycling threads / pitch up with a question when the threads are coming to a close.

There are 2 of us and we have 6 bikes of which umm, 4 are mine Blush (although one of those is in bits and probably about to be 'retired').

The 'Sunday' road bike, decent commuter (also road bike), ancient commuter (in bits) and a fairly middle of the road hardtail for me. DP has a road oriented hybrid and a fancy cross-country MTB. He has serious bike envy and is currently eyeballing a fancy road bike of his own Grin

If I had more time / money / space I'd love a custom steel bike for touring & commuting. I could probably also make room for a CX bike, but since my MTB does not often see mountains or even that many forest trails, I doubt I can justify another off road bike right now. Next year when I finally pluck up the courage to do a couple of MTB events it'll be different obvs

Chopstheduck · 04/08/2015 15:39

Oooh cycling!

My names Chopstheduck and I'm a bikeaholic Grin

I have 3 bikes. There are 6 of us though, so 8 bikes in total that I have to keep serviced! I work in cycling - I'm a cycling instructor and I also teach people to ride and lead family rides for a council. In my spare time I'm a keen roadie and mtber, and a breeze champion.

I did Ride London. My tracker said 7 hours, my official time was a lot longer due to getting caught up in the gridlock following sad leith Hill incident. I also do triathlon.

MeanwhileHighAboveTheField · 06/08/2015 19:06

This thread too, BuggersMuddle!

CoolWheelsPan · 06/08/2015 20:09

Any progress on this HQ?

prettybird · 07/08/2015 14:36

Oops. May need to get another bike Shock - ds (who had a Crit race last night) has just acknowledged that his cornering is a weak point and that maybe doing some cyclocross over the winter would help.

Unfortunately, not a single one of our bikes is suitable for cyclocross Hmm

MeanwhileHighAboveTheField · 07/08/2015 15:58

Another bike? Sounds like a jolly good plan!

If you think that my 4 year old has already had 7 bikes (in fact 4 of them are still in use...) and we are thinking of getting him a new one for his 5th birthday ....
