Cycling topic anyone?

SophiePendragon · 18/07/2015 09:16

I'm looking for somewhere to post about bicycles and can't find the appropriate topic.

There is a weights topic. An Unexplained topic. Hmm

Is there a bikes one? BikeSmile

I agree with Lammily - too many sub categories could be counter-productive.

If the topic then gets too busy, we could then consider sub-dividing - but we'd then have an idea about the recurring themes.

LadySharrowOfGolter · 28/07/2015 13:26

Super news on the new cycling topic Bike

CoolWheelsPan · 28/07/2015 13:29

Categories?
Yes of course people use their different bikes differently, so use of categories would make access for posters particular questions/concerns/offerings much easier to access, rather than essentially one long list of threads covering numerous types of riding etc.

DollyMcDolly · 28/07/2015 13:33

Great news

Danceasifnooneswatching · 28/07/2015 13:39

I've just started cycling do would be interested in this.

SummerLightning · 28/07/2015 13:39

Woohoo!

Personally I don't think it will be busy enough to need subcategories. Just not having to dig through the exercise category would be good enough.

CoolWheelsPan · 28/07/2015 13:41

GrinBike

FelixFelix · 28/07/2015 13:44

Yippee! Thank you to whoever requested a cycling section Smile

prettybird · 28/07/2015 13:45

It would be lovely if it did get busy enough for sub-categories! Grin

prettybird · 28/07/2015 13:50

....but especially for people new to cycling, it'll be interesting for them to see a range of topics and who knows, might encourage them to try something new, eg MTB but that'll not be me

I know I've learnt loads via ds' membership of a cycling club. For example, I had to find out the word for the "thingy that goes in the end of the handlebars" as I knew it wasn't legal for him to race with one missing.

BeccaMumsnet · 28/07/2015 14:28

Top pun work DawnMumsnet - I'm taking notes.

SophiesDog · 28/07/2015 14:33

Pan.

Now don't undo all our hard work with extra requests!

You're in danger of turning it into one of those Good Ordering panniers.

I visualise this topic as a rather scruffy old Carradice. You can chuck anything in it and it doesn't matter where, and there's probably some hairy old chocolate at the bottom of it somewhere as well as what you were after. bonus

LammilyDoll · 28/07/2015 14:47

I can guarantee there's no chocolate, hairy or otherwise, remaining in any of my bags Grin

SophiesDog · 28/07/2015 14:51

LOL Grin

Not even a smartie?

Ds would be most disappointed.

CoolWheelsPan · 28/07/2015 15:05

Nooo, now is the perfect time to hit 'em hard! Smile We need order, structure, discipline, fall back positions, labels, alphabeticising, storage containers, indexing, drawers, stickies, synchronicity, and symmetry.

rather scruffy old Carradice? Good god! Shock

SophiesDog · 28/07/2015 15:48

You forgot geometry. sigh

lavendersun · 28/07/2015 15:50

Do not make fun of Carradice bags ladies .... I used to rib DH and call them 'hairy nose hair type bags', then I got older and made a pattern from one for my own bag.

The tweed ones are actually very nice looking Grin. Just not sure whether there is cotton duck under the tweed and how it would stand up to long term use.

SophiesDog · 28/07/2015 16:07

I love your bags, they are amazing.

Mine are old, knackered yet still strong and standing up to the awful weather. I really like them, but I doubt they are as waterproof as the ones you just made Smile

lavendersun · 28/07/2015 16:13

But you haven't seen my very ancient Karrimor ones with patches .... very knackered, very ancient - but great because I can leave them on the bike in town and not worry about them being stolen.

There is a place for a tired looking bag in life Smile.

LammilyDoll · 28/07/2015 16:23

"Tired looking bag" . . . sadly, that describes me [weary sigh]

DramaAlpaca · 28/07/2015 21:05

Fantastic news!

Thank you MNHQ & everyone else who requested this Bike

I am going shopping (hate shopping) for a new hat today.

I am very pale, like being very pale and have noticed that my face is tanning despite applying and reapplying swiss made (think that is what it is called) factor 50 when cycling. Only upped my cycling a month ago, big difference in skin colour!

So it needs to fit with a big visor. There is a huge Evans in town - fingers crossed.

I replaced my toe clips and added a bar end mirror this week - found that my dodgy (previously broken) neck was aching just from looking behind me on a longer ride, knew it was that as it is right side only. Confirmed by not looking behind me at all (very quiet single track roads at 5:30) two days later.

I haven't been able to ride this week, work and DH is away so just me & DD who wouldn't appreciate going out in the rain - Friday morning it is.

SophiesDog · 29/07/2015 09:18

Good luck Lavender. I forgot to thank everyone who joined me on the thread, bumped it and linked it and got us the topic. I'm really pleased and grateful to all of you Flowers

I hope it is more successful than the last topic I had an idea for (Toys Reunited, for lost and found comforters - it's probably still there somewhere but no one uses it!)
