I'm looking for somewhere to post about bicycles and can't find the appropriate topic.

There is a weights topic. An Unexplained topic. Hmm

Is there a bikes one? BikeSmile

At least ds is 14 (15 next month Shock).

He's only had 7 bikes: his Like-a-Bike, his lump of cast iron first "real" bike, a Beinn 24 Islabike, a Luath 26 Islabike, his Cannondale Caad8, his current Focus Cayo and his Genesis track bike. He also had a loan of a club Luath small adult with knobbly tires 2 years ago when he last did cyclocross but only did it for half a season before he broke his collarbone playing rugby Hmm - and it's now too small for him.

ophiotaurus · 07/08/2015 16:20

I've just bought a bike having not cycled for about 20 years. I'm really looking forward to this topic!

PancakeHen · 08/08/2015 21:55

Is the cycling topic happening!?

What went on at Leith Hill last weekend Chops? I'm thinking of cycling RideLondon next year....

Chopstheduck · 09/08/2015 07:26

PancakeHen - a 55 year old guy died of a heart attack on the ascent :(

They tried so hard to save him, and an air ambulance was sent. Everyone for the half mile or so behind him was stuck on the hill, while riders further back were directed to bypass the whole hill. There were quite a lot of crashes too tbh, which was scary!

I'm still entering the ballot again, despite saying never again! I'm going to put a shorter time though, for an earlier start. After getting stuck on Leith I ended up in amongst a lot of slower riders, and weaving around walkers on climbs.

It was amazing racing on closed streets though, and I actually LOVED box hill!

I'm off to swim in a lake this morning then go for a bit of a ride. :)

How awful. The kids and I watched all the cyclists go past, cheering them on from my friends driveway Sad

LammilyDoll · 10/08/2015 23:41

MNHQ have forgotten about us, haven't they? Sad

PancakeHen · 11/08/2015 08:23

We better keep chatting!

SusanMichelson · 12/08/2015 10:44

I think I could have posted on a cycling topic about fifty times in the last fortnight Smile

I keep checking but they are clearly busy

Oh well

PancakeHen · 12/08/2015 11:05

Yes, we do.

Anyone attended a one day bike maintenance course? Would you recommend it? I'm a bit over reliant on dh to sort bike issues Blush

LammilyDoll · 12/08/2015 12:26

Perhaps if we all ring our bells together, we can make such a racket they'll remember their promise [hopeful]

So here goes: HONK! HONK!
(I have a hooter on my recumbent, which the kids call a "honker" Grin)

LammilyDoll · 12/08/2015 12:27

And a little flick bell on my shopping bike:
PING! PING PING!!!

prettybird · 12/08/2015 12:53

The bell is broken on my hybrid and I don't have one on my road bike so I'll have to do with my usual,

"ExCUSE me PLEASE!" Smile

CoolWheelsPan · 12/08/2015 14:42

With so many different demands, I do really think we need different sections.....

Cycling topic anyone?
NigelMolesworth · 12/08/2015 22:13

Ooh I've only just found this! Yes please MN HQ to a cycling topic.

4 cyclists here.
8 bikes (3 for DH a firm believer in N+1, 2 for me and 3 variously sized Islabikes for the 2 DDs)
1 tandem.
2 tag-alongs.

I manage to get out about once a week for a ride with a friend. We're definitely non competitive and are currently touring the local cafés!

lavendersun · 15/08/2015 19:33

I wondered what had happened to this thread after my 2 week holiday .... not much I see!

We have just returned from a trip to the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, incredibly beautiful, dreadful weather, lots and lots of cycle tourers.

DH wants us to do it next year in some shape or form (meaning dropping DD off at GPs). The hills would kill me, absolutely kill me.

So if you are one of the hill tourers on Skye, Arran, Mull or any of the western peninsulas I passed in the last two and a bit weeks .... I salute you Smile.

MeanwhileHighAboveTheField · 16/08/2015 09:16

Sounds lovely :) I live in the Highlands of Scotland and yes the weather has been awful!

lavendersun · 16/08/2015 17:56

Back on my bike today after two weeks off, only 15 miles and I felt it a bit on the slight incline on the way home, pathetic Lavender, pathetic. I rode to our nearest NT place for a cup of tea Smile, no cake, just tea.

DD is going on an activity day on Tuesday, an hour from home. I plan on taking my bike and riding for a few hours with a lunch stop - good use of killing 5 hours, ride, lunch, read my book!

PancakeHen · 17/08/2015 15:26

Do you usually cycle by yourself lavendersun? I'm thinking about joining a cycle club...
