Following on from discussion on another thread - could we have a Scottish section, please?

The local information is good, but it is too local to apply to the whole of Scotland, if you see what I mean.

"Our school were challenged on access a few years ago, and admitted that a child in a wheelchair (and in effect a teacher in a wheelchair as well) could not be accommodated and the school would not make changes to do so."

Yeah, that's slightly different as it's the whole 'reasonable adjustment' thing.

But educationally - they can't refuse a pupil because they don't have staff with experience with that issue, which I have seen English posters complaining about, they're supposed to train their staff or hire someone suitable.

My DS has AS as well, though he's left school now. The whole lack of a statement...a CSP is sort of the equivalent of one, though, as you'll know you won't get one for AS, but I don't know if people get statements for AS routinely either?

My handiest ever hint is, if you're struggling to get support at school - apply for a CSP even if you know your child doesn't qualify as the LA have to respond and will tell the school what support they should be providing.

I like to have tea at Jenners and I'm wearing Birkenstocks...

OOAOML · 27/03/2015 12:53

Thanks tabula he has a child support plan but I think the school did it rather than the LA. And a lot of the time they are good, it's just when there are issues we very much seem to fall between the school, the OT (seen him and can't offer anything, although personally I think he needs more speech therapy), VTSS (on the waiting list for a group for over two years) etc. He does have learning assistant support for specific things, but it seems a bit hit and miss (assistant on long term sick and no replacement etc). They did act really quickly on the bullying though (once I burst into tears in the HT's office, I should have tried that earlier).

Katie it is Birkenstock weather. I am off out for a lunchtime wander in the sunshine (but shall not be taking tea in Jenners).

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 27/03/2015 13:00

What about the Shortbreeders? No?
Oh fine then! Sensible name it is. MNScotland is descriptive, inclusive etc. I vote for that.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 27/03/2015 13:43

I don't have a specific suggestion but I think the name needs to make it clear to everyone that it's relevant to the differences that apply in Scotland.

Otherwise people who don't clearly recognise the title will start posting and there will be the same confusion that happens now.

Non-Scottish people may not understand 'hen' 'baw' etc.

SirChenjin · 27/03/2015 13:46

Whilst I don't usually meet friends in Jenners I do like their tearoom and I certainly miss Grays

So has MNHQ actually agreed to this MNScotland thing??

APlaceInTheWinter · 27/03/2015 14:04

I'm Grin at the thought of a walk of shame in sensible lace-ups. As a West-coaster, walks of shame usually involved high heels, Sauchiehall St and possibly a wee rest/chicken chow mein in the Canton Express.

I like MNScotland and agree there will need to be clear pointers (maybe a boxed section on the main MNhomepage?) to explain why it's been established and that it's specifically related to the legal/education/health differences and not us making a claim for independence via social media

OOAOML · 27/03/2015 14:06

Shall we have a sub-board for 'places that do a lovely scone'? Wink

KatieScarlettreregged · 27/03/2015 14:26

Yes please Smile

EdYouKateShaun · 27/03/2015 14:35

Only if we can all agree that done rhymes with gone! Grin

EdYouKateShaun · 27/03/2015 14:37

Ahem...
Only if we can all agree that SCONE rhymes with gone.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 27/03/2015 14:46

Well, of course, it does. Grin

OOAOML · 27/03/2015 14:47

Obviously!

SirChenjin · 27/03/2015 14:49

Definitely - none of this silly scone-rhymes-with cone nonsense. And YY to a 'places that do a lovely scone' sub board, but could I suggest we widen it to 'places that do lovely cakes and a nice cup of tea' - or am I being ridiculous?

GrouchyKiwi · 27/03/2015 14:58

Personally, I like to rhyme scone with "one".

SenecaFalls · 27/03/2015 15:29

Well, if it begins with a capital letter, it rhymes with "spoon."

OOAOML · 27/03/2015 15:33

But if it is a baked good to be eaten by women in sensible shoes like Sir Chenjin, it rhymes with "gone".

I quite fancy a scone now.

SirChenjin · 27/03/2015 15:34

That is true...

How do you get scone to rhyme with one Kiwi? Confused

funnyossity · 27/03/2015 15:38

I get one to rhyme with scone and swan. This is why I failed at Received Pronunciation where one rhymes with bun (apparently!)

GrouchyKiwi · 27/03/2015 15:52

Scwun. Wink

SirChenjin · 27/03/2015 15:52

My one rhymes with bun < dead posh>

Scone does rhyme with swan, doesn't it? Confused

SirChenjin · 27/03/2015 15:53

Completely misread your post there funny - bloody phone Blush

KatieScarlettreregged · 27/03/2015 16:00

My favourite place for coffee and a cake is Dobbies in Dunfermline. Followed by a mooch around the shop. I never buy anything garden related though.

funnyossity · 27/03/2015 17:36

And on another thread Jilly has warned that with my poor English I may struggle in the boyfriend department...It's a good job all round that I hadn't set my cap at Benedict Cucumberpatch. Grin

The castle is pronounced "skoon" is it not? Or did I dream that?

SirChenjin · 27/03/2015 17:41

OK - what did you say to upset Jilly? Grin

Yep, Skoon Palace is not to be confused with the baked goods (which tastes a lot nicer obviously. I wonder if you can buy a scone at Scone?)
