Following on from discussion on another thread - could we have a Scottish section, please?

The local information is good, but it is too local to apply to the whole of Scotland, if you see what I mean.

I always thought it was written Scoon Palace but why the hell did I expect it to be logical like that?

funnyossity · 27/03/2015 17:50

Oh she's never upset. I said I would use "looking to" as in expecting to do something. Tis annoying to many folk apparently - who knew?!
Every day's a school day. Smile

Before the scone I like a good bowl of Scottish lentil soup.Envy

BarrowlandBiddy · 27/03/2015 18:11

Not really sure I have any right to suggest a name, as I often read threads lurking I believe it's called Blush but rarely post.
Would Scots' Corner be too cheesy as specific section name??? Within that there could be education, law, NHS etc.
Fully expecting to be told to jog on by the way! Wink

SirChenjin · 27/03/2015 18:17

"Looking to" is perfectly acceptable in my book, as is "can I get" - but both seem to cause great consternation!

I actually like Scots' Corner - so long as it doesn't get called Scotch Corner by the more goady MNetters

Nevergrowingup · 27/03/2015 18:24

Being a teuchter who has lived south of the border, I would love to see MN Scotland so I can post about square sausage without feeling like a foreigner.

Nevergrowingup · 27/03/2015 18:27

Oops! *lived south of the border for many years...

KatieScarlettreregged · 27/03/2015 18:33

I like Scots Corner too.
Best so far IMO.

SenecaFalls · 27/03/2015 18:37

The Scone Palace Coffee Shop has a pastry on offer called the Scone of Destiny. Grin

NorahDentressangle · 27/03/2015 18:38

But Scotch Corner is in England.

BarrowlandBiddy · 27/03/2015 18:41

SirChenjin Yeah, there may well be goady bampots MNetters who refer to it incorrectly, accidentally on purpose of course but I suppose that could happen with any name really.

(Excuse all the bold & strikethroughs etc.... I haven't posted much, as I said previously, and I'm having a rerr terr tae masel trying out all the effects! Grin )

BarrowlandBiddy · 27/03/2015 18:46

Scotch Corner is in England, yes.
I'm suggesting the possible new section be called Scots' Corner, as in the area/section 'belonging' , for want of a better phrase, to the Scottish MNetters.

SirChenjin · 27/03/2015 18:48

Yeah, that's true I may possibly have been in a bit of a spat recently with someone who referred to us as Scotch in a deliberate attempt at goady fuckery and it winds me right up even though I'm from dahn sarf

Love the Scone of Destiny Grin

BarrowlandBiddy · 27/03/2015 18:54

No, I totally get you SirChenjin, it winds me up too.

How do I do a Scottish smiley face by the way? Thought I'd get some practice in.....

KatieScarlettreregged · 27/03/2015 19:04

I hate Scotch as much as Jock.
Makes me come over all Braveheart (till I remember it's crap history and Mel G is a twat).

NorahDentressangle · 27/03/2015 19:11

What about Northofthebordernet

SirChenjin · 27/03/2015 19:13

Me too - and this spat was in the context of an Englan=Britain post so I was practically choking on my teacake by the end of it Grin I got her post deleted which was most satisfying

LaurieFairyCake · 27/03/2015 19:15

I love Jock

Our family has always had a dug named Jock (yes, we're scottish)

It was started in 1835, and as far as we can tell there have been more than 40 of them - rellies were farmers until recently and all the farm dogs were called Jock

BarrowlandBiddy · 27/03/2015 19:19

Aaarrrggh Jock is just so so wrong Katie, makes my heckles fair rise.
Both terms are extremely antagonising I think.

DunedinNights · 27/03/2015 19:19

North of the Border sounds too much like North Britain. Sad

Binkleflip · 27/03/2015 19:21

Mawsnet, aye, mebbes and if not then MNScotland.

Take it Norah got her coat?

NorahDentressangle · 27/03/2015 19:22

Blethernet

Binkleflip · 27/03/2015 19:22

also Bawsnet made me snort beer Grin

LaurieFairyCake · 27/03/2015 19:22

OorMumsnet

LaurieFairyCake · 27/03/2015 19:22

Gallusnet

BarrowlandBiddy · 27/03/2015 19:23

Laurie
Obviously, as a derivative of Jack, and used as a pets name, it's fine. Pretty cute actually :)

It's all about context really isn't it.
