Following on from discussion on another thread - could we have a Scottish section, please?

The local information is good, but it is too local to apply to the whole of Scotland, if you see what I mean.

heart attack on a plate!

What about scotsnet?

PacificDogwood · 26/03/2015 16:54

ScotchNet Grin

NorahDentressangle · 26/03/2015 17:44

No - mawsnet smacks of The Broons! Hardly up to the minute.

And what does a Mner from Skye have in common with a Mner from Edinburgh or a Mner from Stranraer have in common with a Mner from Aberdeen.

There is no common link apart from being in Scotland so not enough in common imo.

Anyway, someone can start a Scottish thread if they want.

Christinayangstwistedsister · 26/03/2015 17:47

Pacific is "on the ran dan " again

tabulahrasa · 26/03/2015 17:50

"And what does a Mner from Skye have in common with a Mner from Edinburgh or a Mner from Stranraer have in common with a Mner from Aberdeen."

The same education system, legal system and NHS...

frankie80 · 26/03/2015 17:50

there needs to be a form of 'mums' in the name though

PacificDogwood · 26/03/2015 17:51

Norah you really can't see what people from different areas of Scotland have in common?

No shared history, culture, language?

Christinayangstwistedsister · 26/03/2015 20:32

The Broons is a classic

I would think the fact that we all live in Scotland is common ground, not sure how much more you want

KissMyFatArse · 26/03/2015 20:48

Yeah sounds good I didn't even realise there was a local section as I use MN on my phone so not easy to find.

NiceBitOfCheese · 26/03/2015 21:25

I'm adding my wee voice to the petition for a "Mawsnet" ... but maybe called something classier officially like ScotsMumsNet, MumScotNet, MNScotland, etc.

The school holidays threads always get my goat ... there's a 2 week difference in the summer (or more?) as well as other variations throughout the year. UK radio stations and UK newspapers and magazines are wholly attuned to English holiday times. Very irritating. and don't get me started on buying & selling houses . Would be nice to post where you don't have to explain yourself.

ssd · 26/03/2015 21:25

how about calling the topic

FayeScotland

Teladi · 26/03/2015 21:29

I agree with the other voices on this thread - with my DC not in school yet I find myself getting confused reading threads on here relating to the different system. Would be great to have a section to talk specifically with other Scottish MNetters.

piggychops · 26/03/2015 21:33

I think it's a great idea to have a Mawsnet board

ssd · 26/03/2015 23:06

Bamsnet

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 26/03/2015 23:07

Yes please

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 26/03/2015 23:12

Love Bamsnet, what about ChoobsNet?

Christinayangstwistedsister · 27/03/2015 07:24

Yur in fur it

NorahDentressangle · 27/03/2015 07:57

Norah you really can't see what people from different areas of Scotland have in common? No shared history, culture, language?

Well a lot of the history is not shared. Nor is the language - Doric, Gaelic, Shetlanders who are more Norse than Scottish. Industrial Glasgow, 'posh' Edinburgh. And Aberdeen a law unto itself. Huge numbers of mostly English Incomers.

Though I would admit that education and the law are shared. Mind you a quick google search brings up that 1 in 4 children in Edinburgh are privately schooled.

But a united force to criticize the education system could be useful. Certainly cuts down here mean a less than top rate education for DCs, but then we are the forgotten SW. It might be better elsewhere.

NorahDentressangle · 27/03/2015 08:08

Quinesnet - then it's not just for mums

Mrsjayy · 27/03/2015 08:14

It would make a huge difference to loads of folk especially if your talking about education they could just say highers or Nat 5 or whatever without having to go into a huge explanation och go oan mumsnet a wee corner we wouldn't take up much room

Witchofthenorth · 27/03/2015 09:17

Why is Aberdeen a law into itself ?Confused

Teladi · 27/03/2015 09:29

There are plenty of Scottish people in Aberdeen, Norah!!

tabulahrasa · 27/03/2015 09:48

I think Norah meant aberdeen's a law unto itself as far as language goes?
