Why is the mobile site so slooooow ?

I had a lot of trouble with the new look mobile site when it was first launched, and used the desktop site on my phone for quite a while, then tried the mobile site again and it was much better. However, in the last week or so, loading any page on the mobile site has slowed to the pace of an asthmatic ant with some heavy shopping. As a rough estimate, loading any page takes 2-3 times as long as any other web page on my phone, and Active Conversations takes anywhere between 5-10 times as long to load. Quite often it refuses to load properly at all, loading the 'structure', but none of the text. Please help ?

(Samsung Galaxy S, running android browser)

Have you tried the app?

Cinnamoncookie · 20/11/2014 23:48

Tried it ages ago and it didn't seem to work, tried again today and the Active button loaded a blank screen, and Threads I'm On crashed the app. Thought I'd give it a chance, maybe there had been an update, so uninstalled, reinstalled, and the first icon I touched crashed the app and then my phone. Judging by the reviews on google play (android app store), which are overwhelmingly 1/5, I wonder if MNHQ actually take any notice ?

Hi Cinnamon,

Really sorry to hear you're having trouble with the mobile site. We've asked our Tech folk to take a look and everything seems to be working fine at our end - yes, even on a Samsung Galaxy.

Is there any chance the problem could be with your internet connection?

Sorry, too, if the app is crashing for you. We are developing a lovely, shiny new one, so please bear with us. Flowers

Jenda · 21/11/2014 16:26

will we be able to see photos on the new app, I feel so left out Sad

Cinnamoncookie · 22/11/2014 10:58

Dawn

Many thanks for your reply. I doubt it's my 3G, as everything else loads at a normal speed - which is why I specifically mentioned in it my OP.

Guess I'll hang on for the app and keep my fingers crossed !

I'm having the same problem for the last week or so. I'm using the mobile site on iPhone 4. All other web pages are loading quickly but MN taking forever Sad

WorraLiberty · 24/11/2014 16:47

Same here but I'm using a PC.

It's been like wading through treacle for the last 2 days

All other sites load very quickly.

QoFE · 24/11/2014 17:02

The mobile site is awful atm (using a Galaxy s4) and the adverts are taking an age to load and slowing it right down.

usualsuspect333 · 24/11/2014 17:05

I've given up on the mobile site completely on my kindle.

It doesn't work at all.

onedogatoddlerandababy · 24/11/2014 17:22

Mine too. On iPhone 4s. Painfully slow. And no, not my wifi as everything else works just fine. Just not mumsnet.

usualsuspect333 · 24/11/2014 17:42

Every thing else works just fine on my kindle too. It's not my Wi Fi.

LineRunner · 24/11/2014 17:46

I reported the mobile site being incredibly slow days ago.

It happened the same time as the glitch over posts not showing, and the reintroduction of the hanging flashing fucking advert at the top of the page.

Kindle fire here. High speed broadband.

QoFE · 24/11/2014 19:05

Yy we only upgraded to fibre optic a fortnight ago so deffo not our Internet connection!

Started happening at the same time the annoying advert bar reappeared at the top of the page.

Pages take an age to load especially active convos. And then the advert takes even longer still to load so frequently I click on a thread I want to to read, only to find that the advert has moved and made everything shift down the page and I've opened a totally different thread to the one I clicked on!

Driving me potty.

LineRunner · 24/11/2014 19:09

Yy to wrong threads opening too.

usualsuspect333 · 24/11/2014 19:10

YY, if threads open at all it's the bloody wrong thread.

NotCitrus · 24/11/2014 19:15

If I don't wait for the green line to show the Active Convos has finished loading (despite all the text having loaded), I mustnt click on any convo as it won't load the right one. I'm on Android but my desktop compute isn't much better.

NotCitrus · 24/11/2014 19:17

Also half the time when I click Post, nothing happens so I have to do it a few times to ensure the grey circle of arrows appears. This all got much worse when the extra ads turned up - I resent getting more advertising for a poorer service.

QoFE · 24/11/2014 19:32

Yes posting v slow too! Takes at least two clicks before anything happens Hmm

This is definitely a recent (ie last 7-10 days) thing. It had just got back to the standard/usability of the old mobile site since the unnecessary revamp but now its appalling.

EveryGoodBoyDeservesFun · 24/11/2014 19:40

I've noticed it slower too (iPhone 5, iOS 7 on safari). Seemed to happen at the same time the ads were moved to along the top rather than between posts.

LineRunner · 24/11/2014 19:45

It has just got even worse in the last hour.

usualsuspect333 · 24/11/2014 19:52

I was ready to jump up and down on my Kindle in frustration last night.

I had to switch to the desk top version in the end, but it's tiny to read.

LineRunner · 24/11/2014 19:58

It's taking all the fun out of rash posting. I could eat a kebab by the time the Send button responds.

FlyLikeABird · 24/11/2014 20:03

I've moved to laptop now, sooo frustrated. MN is my breastfeeding and / or toddler tantrum haven so using my phone was perfect, the laptop isn't baby sick / toddler bashing proof.

AgentProvocateur · 24/11/2014 20:06

It's to do with the advert at the top of the page I think. There's an advert-sized blank in the first post before the rest of the page loads. It's taking ages, and is really frustrating. It's by far the slowest site on my ipad.

SwedishEdith · 24/11/2014 20:08

Here too - more noticeable after the ad moved to the top.
