Can we please have a ruling on how unsupportive of other parents it is permissible to be

within site rules, particularly, but not only, in reference to this thread;

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2094153-To-think-that-a-lot-of-the-time-having-someone-in-the-family-with-a-disability-does-mean-being-long-term-poor

Have NCed obviously, but MNHQ can obviously see who I am and maybe we can get this cleared up one way or the other.

Hi all,

Thanks for flagging this issue. We've had a good read of both this thread and the original thread now.

It's not always easy to draw the line between a dissenting opinion and one that is put forward simply to get a rise out of people. However, even if someone does genuinely take a different viewpoint, we will delete it if we think it shows a lack of sensitivity towards the issues some posters have to deal with.

We have now gone back on the thread and deleted posts which we felt were beyond the pale in terms of being fairly insensitive.

Obviously we can't get it right 100% of the time but we are listening to you and we do try to act on your concerns as quickly as we can whilst still trying to leave space for debate. It's a walk in the park eh?!

YouTheCat · 01/06/2014 15:43

But this one poster does this consistently on every thread of this kind. Isn't it time you just banned her?

I don't mind educating someone if I think they will take it on board and it'll make them think but I have truly tried with this poster and she just carries on goading to the point of very real upset for some posters.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 01/06/2014 15:43

Thanks amy, looks a bit holey now but much better. :)

One thing though, the post where "everyone should budget appropriately" is still there. Just to clarify, has that been deemed an okay thing to say by hq, or just missed?

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 01/06/2014 15:47

And i do agree with what youthecat says, but i dont see the point in trying to convince you that she should be banned (or at least warned that she will be banned next time), either hq think she should or they dont, i dont think my opinion will make any difference Grin

FidelineandFumblin · 01/06/2014 15:47

I'm tempted to agree with YouTheCat.

Is there not a yellow/red card system ahead of an actual ban? Has HMOO not at least earnt herself a yellow by now when the whole of her posting pattern is considered?

Smilesandpiles · 01/06/2014 15:49

I agree with youthecat

As long as that poster is allowed to continue she's undermining everything that MN tries to do. At the moment, your "This is my child" campaign is worthless.

You say one thing and yet your actions always say something else.

FidelineandFumblin · 01/06/2014 15:50

For her dogged persecution of a disadvantaged group, I mean, not for her expression of her validly held opinions.

FidelineandFumblin · 01/06/2014 15:52

Thanks for all the reading BTW Amy that must have been a bit of a marathon.

linkery · 01/06/2014 15:58

It sounds like mumsnet have only read 2 threads, not the PATTERN of her threads.

I thought that patterns of threads were supposed to matter?
Or has mumsnet now changed their minds on that policy now?

linkery · 01/06/2014 16:01

I am beginning to see why the parents with children with SN feel as they do on here.

Some of them are at the end of their tether. But mumsnet dont appear to care Sad

FidelineandFumblin · 01/06/2014 16:05

I imagine Amy is holding the fort singlehanded today link. Sunday was never going to be the day for the whole in-depth investigation and verdict (i hope) Smile

I'm with Mary on this one.

Report, report and keep reporting.

We also have to point out to newer members the situation. On thread so everyone can see it and anyone having a bad day or needing support will hopefully realise that not everyone thinks that way and there's plenty of people who know what they are going through.

linkery · 01/06/2014 16:16

You seem to have changed your stance about reporting Maryz Grin

dawndonnaagain · 01/06/2014 16:17

Dear Mumsnet.
First of all, thank you for looking at the thread and deleting some of the remarks. However, many of us do not comprehend why this one person is not only allowed to undermine a whole campaign, but is also allowed to continue to be the playground bully.
For those of us living with disabilities, either disabled ourselves or as a carer, the internet is a lifeline. It's not just about information, it's about support too, a fact that Mumsnet is all too aware of. You get used to the odd troll appearing, you try to educate, you try to ignore, sometimes you realise that it's not a troll, just somebody who genuinely wants a debate/doesn't comprehend. Occasionally, you wonderfully hit the jackpot and a poster says, wow, you're right and thank you. However, when it's the same person, on every single benefits/lone parents/disability threads it's like Glenn fucking Hoddle again only this time we're not being punished for sins in another life, we're being punished for being feckless, lazy scroungers, again, and again and again. The internet is often our lifeline, socially, academically and emotionally, and yet this consistent bullying, in our own homes, is allowed to continue.
I think most of us accept and understand that it's hard for Mumsnet when you have an array of mods working through threads, to build up a bigger picture, but as there are a considerable number of us saying help, we believe we have a case here, please take time to have a meeting and discuss this issue.
Thank you.
Dd.

Good point Smiles. And I would suggest that it is especially done on the boards that have the most problems

LuisSuarezTeeth · 01/06/2014 16:18

I've just taken the time to read HMOO's posts from the last week. Every single one either attacks, judges, offends or is downright preachy. She demonstrates an absolute failure to empathise in any way but most importantly, IMO there is definitely goading and massive insensitivity.

If you are reading this, HMOO, you may like to do this little exercise yourself. I'd really like to believe there is a human being there somewhere.

There's apologies to be made and a rethink of posting style. I'm appalled at the thought of how some people on the other thread must be feeling.

If other posters can read though her posts and determine that she is indeed being constantly nasty to certain groups of posters - why can't MNHQ?

At the moment, I'm not sure what is worse. Her for doing this in the first place or MNHQ for refusing to make a stand against this.

As a PP already said, just the last weeks worth of posts she has made is a very very clear indication of what she is consistantly like.

linkery · 01/06/2014 16:24

Good for you Maryz.

And claps dawndonnaagain's post.

Luis, by reading her posts from the last week, you seem to have done more than mumsnet.
Perhaps they will be doing the same tomorrow?

linkery · 01/06/2014 16:24

x post!

Smilesandpiles · 01/06/2014 16:25

DD Thanks

FidelineandFumblin · 01/06/2014 16:28

Good post Dawn

AmyMumsnet · 01/06/2014 16:36

@FidelineandFumblin

You imagine correctly. We tend to run a skeleton staff on weekends but rest assured if there is a bigger issue at hand it will be dealt with on Monday morning in the fullness of time.

As many of you know we don't tend to discuss our dealings with other posters but we hope you don't take silence as a sign of inaction. As always, report anything you think we need to see - although if you could limit it to one report per offending thread that would really help keep down my gin consumption .

Smilesandpiles · 01/06/2014 16:41

In past threads we've tried the one post report. This is half the problem, nothing is ever done.

It's one poster. Over several threads, over several subjects and topics, over several years. Enough is enough.

I'm sorry you are having to deal with this on your own at the moment and I can't wait to see the response on Monday but it's been a long time coming.
