Excuse me for i have sinned , Yes I am a subscriber to another site like this , but it is dedicated to Disney nutters like myself. I thought I would pass on some of the stuff that is useful on there which would be great on here.

BTW I love coming here more!!!!

  1. The name of who started the thread
  2. Online photo gallery of mumsnetters ( possibly conflicts with anonymity may need more thinking)
  3. Personalised online signatures with emoticons or pictures

Thats it for now

Would anyone like a link to the DisneyWorld chat board ??

Cant stand those hideous glittery signatures on some of the other sites, makes me cringe. Yuk. I also think the emoticons here are adequate, some posts on other sites are so littered with graphics that it makes them hard to read. I love Mumsnet for it's simplicity.

I don't have a problem with Text when it's used in a text message but don't understand the point when there's a proper full keyboard on a PC. Actually, I don't understand the point of text when my phone has predictive texting - takes me longer to get a 2 rather than to type to. Then again, my phone does play Vivaldi's "Spring"

I don't particularly notice posters ages TBH. It doesn't make any difference to me.

We all agree, ks is nuts

i love mumsnet because you get to meet a bunch of people from all different backgrounds, countries, religions etc and i would never get to meet them otherwise. There are wonderful peeps who have helped me thru many a hard time and gave ne a good talkin to when i have been silly (many of those times)
i have gotten alot of advice and info from threads that i have read.

I like to come on here at around the same time every night (saddo that I am) and to click on "Last Day", as I don't want to miss any interesting threads. However, there are some topics that are not relevant to me or in which I'm not that interested, so it would be nice if you could customize "Last day" to include only the topics that you're interested in. Maybe that's possible already and I just don't know how to do it?

melsy · 29/03/2004 22:31

Oh good, so Im an oldy at nearly 32 then !!!! & I have greying hair too !!!

Last day always has too much to sift through.

Thanks for the movie board. Can we have a spiritual board. Or is there a better phrase for that stuff, wadya think girls???

treacletart · 29/03/2004 22:58

I'd like to see how long a thread is from the first list eg Active conversations(110 posts) (3 posts) etc without having to click through to find out. I could cope with active conversations being longer too, if that were possible. Otherwise I love mumsnet just the way it is. Photos and animations would make it a nightmare to read.

tigermoth · 30/03/2004 07:25

ks, you do make me laugh - in a nice way, I hasten to add.

I never dare read those spelling, grammar and punctuation threads. I make far too many mistakes. I must be one of the oldest mums on mumsnet and writing is a big part of my job.

I'd much rather see a spelling mistake than a dancing emoticon any day.

emsiewill · 30/03/2004 07:47

treacletart, you can make the active conversations show up to 50 threads. You just click on the "active" link, and then change the number in the address bar to 50.

So when you click on "active" your address bar should say "http://www.mumsnet.com/SearchTalk?lastn=25". Just change the 25 to 50.

tigermoth · 30/03/2004 08:21

has anyone mentioned having more competitions on mumsnet? it's great to see more than one competition running in the same week. It means that parents of either young or older children can contribute regularly.

BTW, did you know that on the other boards that do use things like signatures and smilies, etc. it is really easy to disable them for your own viewing. You get access to your own controls and just have to check a box. So if you don't want them you don't have them, if you do want them you can have them. It's dead easy to control.

melsy · 30/03/2004 08:59

Great tips girls

So am I a minority in the spiritual board then ???

I would really like there to be an area on MN where all SAHM who used to work, and would quite like to do some part time work, could post their qualifications or abilities. I've been doing some building work on my house and I would have loved to find a mum, who had given up work, (like a surveyor or architect) but had some time because kids were at school, who could have overseen what was going on. Same would go for ex-bookkeepers/accountants who could do tax returns or advice for small businesses.

It would means mums could help mums, by employing them on family flexible terms (not like normal employers!!!!)

I know it would have to be done on a regional basis, but MN would be a good place to start this up.

How did the spelling mistakes debate start?

I make them all the time, but I do love the ounctuation threads. I may have missed something, but I've only ever seen spelling mistakes picked up on when the result is funny (Brian, anyone?)

Anyway - emoticons/signatures: no thanks.
Beachyhead: I like your idea. I've actually "employed" 2 mumsnetters already on small work from home jobs and it's worked out marvellously.

I also think there should be more comps, but perhaps different comps. A short story competition? A best photo comp? (not a beauty contest obviously, but a most amusing kiddie snap or something)

And I know this has been mentioned before, but I still like the idea of a private forum for subscribers only, where we could talk freely without fear of lurkers (eg dp! ) reading it. Needs some thought to stop the public boards from becoming under-used though. Or perhaps the services ads could be by and for subscribers only - that would stop Beachyhead's idea from turning into a free-for-all dodgy ads page.

SenoraPostrophe · 30/03/2004 10:58

ouncuation? see - just goes to show!

I think the part time jobs page would have to be free for all to encourage usage by local employers, because they probably aren't classic mumsnet subscribers. Also, SAHM's just looking on the off chance might not be subscribers. You could probably charge them something if they managed to recruit someone/ get a job. Volume is the thing that would make it successful.

There is a great website called thegumtree.co.uk for AUS, NZ and SA coming here to work and all the jobs offered are divided up into sensible categories, so its easy to navigate. Only problem is that job agencies tend to hijack it, so you answer an ad offering a suitable person, then find out that you have to pay an agency fee as well. You would have to stop that happening to MN.

I must admit, I stopped using thegumtree after they started charging (mean old witch!) because the amount of ads posted was so unpredictable, that your ad could fall off the front page really quickly.
