MNHQ Racism policy

Hi,
I was just wondering if you could let us know when the racism policy has been amended? I'm sure following today's discussions on NI that it needs to be looked at.
It's clearly breaking the equality act to discriminate based on nationality as it is racist, yet MNHQ don't acknowledge this?

knew

ItsIgginningToLookALotLikeXmas · 08/01/2014 07:21

I get there are broader issues that can be looked at here, but I'd like a speedy decision on whether "race" is going to continue to simply equal "BME" as claimed on the last thread by HQ, or whether that has now changed.
I don't like the whole special case feeling of this.

ThePigOfHappiness · 08/01/2014 12:03

I don't understand this delay. It's not a complicated issue, it's one of keeping up with current legislation and best practise. I don't believe for one second that this would take as long or such a patronising attitude would be taken by MNHQ if it were any other group of people.

I completely agree, looks like we know were we stand - at the bottom of the "to do" list

ThePigOfHappiness · 08/01/2014 12:53

Yep, right at the bottom. Even Justine must be back by now!
Another nice thread going atm. More dictations on what Irish people are to be offended by or not

Yes we must all just purchase grips because we are imagining it all. Some of the comments on that other thread are so dismissive.

Pan · 08/01/2014 13:35

A 'work in progress - we've done this so far' message would be gud.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 08/01/2014 13:51

What's the other thread called?

wannabedomesticgoddess · 08/01/2014 14:06

Ah. Wasn't hard to find.

For fucks sake. I am sick of this shit.

Ok so it was a joke, but it was entirely unnecessary.

I won't be posting on that thread though, I have only read to page 3 and I am already fuming.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 08/01/2014 14:31

I think i'll pull out of that one as nobody on it wants to hear what is being said.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 08/01/2014 14:32

And thats all i'm going to say here because i dont want thi thread to be hijacked by whats happening on that one.

squoosh · 08/01/2014 14:36

'I think i'll pull out of that one as nobody on it wants to hear what is being said.'

Excuse me, what? So because people disagree with you it means they 'don't want to hear'. No, they just think you're being ridiculous.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 08/01/2014 14:39

MNHQ are we ever going to have any kind of meaningful discussion about this, or are we to just "get a grip" as advised on that thread?

This whole thing is disgusting.

BTW youre I agreed with everything you said on that thread. But there's no point trying to talk to people who want to be ignorant to the issues that are being highlighted.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 08/01/2014 14:40

As i said- im not having this thread hijacked by that one. It's all been said on there. No need to bash it out here aswell.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 08/01/2014 14:41

Sorry that was to squoosh. I agree wanna.

squoosh · 08/01/2014 14:41

You're not having the thread hijacked? Well then you shouldn't have brought it up should you?

squoosh · 08/01/2014 14:42

Also, you're not the thread police.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 08/01/2014 14:43

Squoosh, I don't think its appropriate to follow a poster on to another thread to tell them they are ridiculous.

This thread is specifically related to the issues that some people were trying to highlight on that thread. If you don't agree with it, that's fine, but there's no need to call any of it ridiculous.

squoosh · 08/01/2014 14:45

Why can she post her views on both threads but others can't?

And surely if I find her stance ridiculous I'm allowed say so. Report my posts if you find they are hampering your thread.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 08/01/2014 14:46

She brought it up because MNHQ asked to have a discussion about all this (they have gone AWOL which is disappointing) and that thread is relevant to this discussion.

As is your attitude. So keep going. You are proving our point quite well.

squoosh · 08/01/2014 14:46

And what is your point?

squoosh · 08/01/2014 14:47

Yes, I'd have loved to have read the other threads, I'm the first to jump on examples of anti Irish racism.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 08/01/2014 14:50

There are 9 pages here outlining our point.

Have a read.

That thread alone might not have been offensive, but added to the thread that was deleted last week, and MNHQs attitude on the deleted thread and on this one, it is all adding up to a bigger picture.

squoosh · 08/01/2014 14:52

I am reading and good points are being made but I still fail to see how I personally am proving your point purely because I disagree with people who think that the phrase 'Top of the Morning' is racist.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 08/01/2014 15:02

Because people from Northern Ireland and ROI are not being listened to when they say they are offended. They are accused of being PO or ridiculous, or having their knickers up their arse, or needing to lighten up. Yada yada.

Fact is, some people are sick of these threads coming up either having a go or just using daft stereotypical phrases. Its not necessary. There have been many threads where people ask for advice when coming to this island, and people are more than happy to help. Do they need to spout "irishisms" to get the point across? No they don't.

And anyone who speaks up is met with a torrent of abuse from other posters who want to prove just how easy going and fun they are.

The OP on the dublin thread was mildly offensive. The attitude displayed towards youre and nigellasdealer by other posters was downright shameful.
