What mpg does your car really do?

AlexMumsnetCars · 10/04/2013 15:17

What Car? has revealed that more than 95% of cars it tested failed to achieve their official fuel economy (click here for the full story in Mumsnet Cars). So what mpg figures do your cars manage in reality? Include your car's model, engine, trim and age if you can.

Toyota Yaris 53 reg 1.3 currently getting 50.1mpg.

Renault grand Scenic ( just got rid of it) 05 reg 1.6 was doing 38.4mpg.

Can't comment on new car yet as it doesn't have the right button and we are still on first tank.

I have a VW Touareg. Not sure what its official mpg is but i get about 25mpg on average. Never seen it go above 30. Dont think its way off though. Its a 07 plate.

HarrietSchulenberg · 10/04/2013 16:06

02 Galaxy. 38-40 mpg on 25 mile A road run, 45+ on motorways. So its computer says. I haven't actually measured the fuel or anything.

HarrietSchulenberg · 10/04/2013 16:07

Sorry, 1.9TDi GhiaX.

cleas · 10/04/2013 16:15

My little seat Ibiza gets a minimum average of 60mpg (if I concentrate I can get over 70). It's the cheapest car to run that I've ever owned. Also road tax being zero at the moment makes it even better.
The Saab estate we've got manages an average if about 28mpg... Not quite what we were told when we bought it Wink

JollyPurpleGiant · 10/04/2013 16:30

My 2009 Citroen Berlingo Multispace XTR 1.6l diesel usually gets 45.5mpg according to the computer. I can average this on most tanks of fuel. I've been driving carefully the past week or so and I've currently got it up to 47.8mpg :)

JollyPurpleGiant · 10/04/2013 16:31

I reckon this is pretty good for such a large car.

ceebeegeebies · 10/04/2013 16:57

Mazda2 (13 plate) - according to the screen, it is doing about 38 mpg although I have only had it a couple of weeks so I guess the 'average' hasn't calculated properly yet.

Not sure what the official guidance is.

ceebeegeebies · 10/04/2013 16:58

Sorry, it is a 1.3 engine Smile

Areyoumadorisitme · 10/04/2013 17:15

Renault grand scenic 1.9 diesel 58 plate - 35-40mpg around town with up to late 40s on a motorway journey, have had up to 55 when being super careful and driving at 56mph but very difficult to maintain that.

ouryve · 10/04/2013 17:20

57 reg Mazda 6 2.0 TS gets about 40mpg - DH does very little town or city driving in it, which would probably make it less efficient. He still doesn't get the mpg quoted for the model, though. Being a diesel, it needs knocking down into 4th, periodically, on long journeys, to get the revs up, or else it ends up with warning lights flashing.

LIZS · 10/04/2013 17:20

1.2 16v Renault Clio (2004) 38 ish - local short journeys, town traffic

FaceLikeAPickledOnion · 10/04/2013 17:38

51 plate vw estate diesel, very fuel efficient, usually 55-60 mpg. It's why we're reluctant to get a newer car.

myhandslooksoold · 10/04/2013 17:46

52 plate s max 2 litre diesel between 44-45 mpg
52 plate Nissan note petrol 1.4 litre approx 48mpg.
Both driven reasonable speeds, neither racing or crawling.
Good idea to post the true mpg's, rather than the advertised rates. Hth.

AvrilPoisson · 10/04/2013 17:51

Mercedes A class, 57 plate, usually 29mpg on school run (stop/start all the way there, and back). Nowhere near what was advertised! Angry grrr

ceebeegeebies · 10/04/2013 17:55

Just checked the official guidelines on my car which states it should do an average of 56.5 mpg - a bit different from the 38 mpg that it is actually doing Hmm

fengirl1 · 10/04/2013 17:56

Cmax 1.6 diesel does around 50 mpg - and road tax only £30.

Jins · 10/04/2013 18:02

Mini Cooper - official figure is 52.3 and I'm getting 42. I do a lot of short journeys round town though

chickydoo · 10/04/2013 18:05

Freelander 2012
Diesel 35mpg

SweepTheHalls · 10/04/2013 18:09

Renault Grand Modus, 58 plate, 1.4l engine, 51 mpg

lljkk · 10/04/2013 18:10

Petrol 2011 Fiat 500 and 49mpBg on avg. Far below published figures. Must admit I am surprised, our other cars (older diesels) beat published figures by similar margin.
If I get new job I will do about 15k miles per yr; damn, wish I had bought diesel Fiat now.

Costypop · 10/04/2013 18:20

Sokda Fabia green line estate on short trips around 68mpg longer ones its been running at 84mpg and there is no tax!

SimoneDeBeaver · 10/04/2013 18:24

55 plate Volvo XC70 diesel automatic, 40mpg

monkeyfacegrace · 10/04/2013 18:31

Dodge Journey 19
10 plate 2.0l CRD does me around 45mpg. Computer shows 38ish, but thats American gallons so I think Im right in adding 20%....

Husbands Audi R8 does 13mpg on a good day Hmm

ClaraOswinOswald · 10/04/2013 18:32

Same as lljkk but my car is a 2010 model. Not as good as I'd hoped either.
