What mpg does your car really do?

What Car? has revealed that more than 95% of cars it tested failed to achieve their official fuel economy (click here for the full story in Mumsnet Cars). So what mpg figures do your cars manage in reality? Include your car's model, engine, trim and age if you can.

Ford Mondeo Zetec S - 2.5l V6 - 51 plate. Probably about 20mpg but 1,000,000spm (smiles per mile)

Skoda Octavia Estate 1.9TD 10 plates between 49 - 54mpg, 56 on long, not-pushing it motorway journeys.

Ford Focus 2006 1.6 LX petrol, don't know the official figures, but I get about 37 mpg.

Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo 2011 1.2l turbo.

I get an average of 36-37mpg around town and up to 50mpg on the motorway. I could get better if I drove it more carefully (my mum borrowed it for a week and boasted of getting it into the 60s mpg) but it's too much fun!

About time. Manufacturers have to publish the MPG as calculated under New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) conditions - the test is far from real world conditions, and is nothing more than a comparable factor between different vehicles.

What I find really interesting is that those of us with 'older' cars seem to be getting really competitive mpg compared with much newer cars and I didn't expect that to be the case at all!

I have a 2004 2.0 diesel Zafira & average around 43mpg

& DH has 1.6L (I think) diesel Kia ceed estate, 61 plate, gets a bit over 50mpg (should be better but he's always in the wrong gear )

Being a diesel, it needs knocking down into 4th, periodically, on long journeys, to get the revs up, or else it ends up with warning lights flashing.

We had an 08 Mazda5 diesel briefly, ourvye - until I found out about that flashing lights issue

traded down to an older Zafira with no DPF & no flashing lights

MIL had a Zafira. We hated it (and DH is sworn off vauxhalls, anyhow!). We love pretty much everything about this one, except its need for a good burn every now and then. It's really hard to get it up to 3000 revs - DH ends up doing 70mph in 4th to get it there!

fiesta 1.25 zetec '59 plate, 35-38mpg but its all very urban. When I can get it on a run out of town it's nearer 45. I've no idea what the official figures are but I think the advertising standards bods are going to start issuing revised guidance on how car adverts have to explain their official figures, pointing out that they don't produce them by driving on real roads etc.

I'm really surprised with these figures, I always thought our bongo's economy was crap, and yet many newer cars have similar fuel economy.

VW Golf 2.0 TDI 09 Plate - I get 58 mpg usually. I'm a rep so mixture of urban and motorway driving. Have had 65 mpg but that was on a very long journey.

Due to upgrade my car later this year and am going to order the same car as everything I've looked at the mpg ratings are terrible.

My cars
2003 Kia Rio LX (1.3l) gets a constant 39-41mpg.
1998 Rover 800 Si Fastback (2.0l) sensible driving 25-30mpg, heavy footed 20-25mpg.

My mums car
2006 VW Golf Plus (1.6l) average 35mpg (although I do get scared when being a passenger in my mums car)

These figures (except my mums) are based on my usual commute to work which is approx 10 miles of lanes or town followed by a 10 mile stint on a dual carriageway

Personally I think the Rio is very good considering they can easily be bought for under £1000, just don't expect to get an adult in the back especially if the driver is 6'3"

I have a Renault Scenic 1.5dCi 61plate. The computer says it has averaged 51.8mpg since we have had it.
