Hello.

Given the amount of, erm, interest the Asda Christmas ad has generated on Mumsnet in the past few days, we thought it would be interesting/fun to find out how you all feel about the .

Do tell!

'Relax' would have been better kungfu, if it has to be FGTH. Grin Or maybe 'Two Tribes'.

maybe the woman who sings this one could do a whimsical drippy breathy version of Russ Abbot's Atmosphere for next year's

ha ha

I was singing a breathy version of 'Relax' in my head earlier

Spring. Breathy Atmosphere. Grin

I like it.

John Lewis should take note that even Mr Snowman has realised their delivery service is shit and totally unreliable, so shopping online wasn't the easier option.

Poor snowman had a long trek to his nearest JL store. Maybe they should consider creating a few more shops. Wink

And if Mr Snowman wants a freezer to keep his beloved safe he's better shop elsewhere.

I'd have made a little snowman family. The commercial could have been about them celebrating Christmas together and they would have left gifts for the children at the end.

JL need to give me a job. Grin

I love the snowpeople, their faces are very well done. But the song - sweet Jesus in the manger, can we not have ONE advert that isn't overlaid by a breathy drawn-out version of a song we'd all rather forget?
It is annoying for two reasons. One is that you spend ages trying to figure out what the song actually is (sparse as they are with the melody, these covers) and then BOTH versions manage to earworm you simultaneously. Two is just because it is, OK? Stop it now.

In summary: Snowmen Good, Breathy Nonsense Bad.

It's just a typical John Lewis ad isn't it but with less products than normal. Doesn't inspire me to shop there but to be honest I don't know what would. It's just an expensive department store

RudolphUcker · 09/11/2012 12:22

And I bet the snowwoman is saying 'Fucksakes, we said we wouldn't do presents this year. I've not got you anything. No, really. Nothing. We agreed'
Is the next advert going to show Snowman in a massive sulk?

I liked that they didn't do a cheesy reveal of the JL store sign when he is looking up at it. Nice and subtle.

But yes, the Weeping Angel snowman, and the usual depressing JL music. Very distinctively JL sound and look.

Better than the Asda ad x 1 million though.

The feminist interpretation to this would be 'bollocks to that, why does she need a man to go and buy her gloves when she's capable of doing this herself? You should dump any man who chooses clothes for you, it won't end well. He'll be distancing you from your family and friends next.'

Very sweet.
Great song.
Like last years better though.
John Lewis rarely gets it wrong IMO.

Pretentious wank.

JL did a really good Christmas ad a few years ago then, due to good reaction, convinced themselves that the haunting/moving/tragic/uplifting Xmas ad was what defined them.

Can just imagine the team load of 'creatives' this involved. The endless 'brain storming' and 'blue sky thinking'.

it's shit.

How many of use watched it and are now inspired to go to John Lewis? I don't fancy that glove, hat and scarf set. Asda ad may be sexist and not as dreary but at least I've an idea of their Christmas product range.
