Hypothetically...if you sockpuppet...

...get caught and admit it on a separate thread, will you get banned? And if not, why not?

Could MNHQ talk a little about their warning/banning procedure, without giving too much away obviously, so posters can understand?

Good question, I would like to know the answer to this too.

BonkeySaysTeamGBAreTheMollocks · 30/07/2012 21:43

Is there any way to find out that a poster has been banned?
Apart from if you are in contact outside of MN.

Olympia2012 · 30/07/2012 21:44

So a sockpuppet has been allowed to stay?

TheLightPassenger · 30/07/2012 21:44

I guess it's a bit like the criminal justice system - that previous offences get taken into consideration as it were, but sufficiently serious one-offs could get you banned?

ScarletSmellyFeet · 30/07/2012 21:45

You will be investigated if reported and then you should be hung in full view of the MN vipers on a Sunday morning but not before church

PantsOnFiore · 30/07/2012 21:46

And bof (sorry for the namecheck) seemed awfully sure that one poster had been banned in error, its not like boffy to piss on her own eyeballs (or whatever the phrase was) so is there something in it and if so would MNHQ apologise and reinstate?

I even worry now that I'll get banned for starting this thread Sad It's all gone a bit 1984.

OP posts:
Alibabaandthe40nappies · 30/07/2012 21:46

Olympia that appears to be the case.

TheLightPassenger · 30/07/2012 21:47

I thought the mistake stuff was in relation to Artex's ban?

BonkeySaysTeamGBAreTheMollocks · 30/07/2012 21:47

Boiled piss eyeballs Wink

Sportofino · 30/07/2012 21:47

Yes - why should certain posters get away with claiming to be "innocent" and doing it by accident, when it very clear from the context that it is not the case.

Sportofino · 30/07/2012 21:49

I can think of one other MNetter who was banned for "accidentally" sockpuppeting - and fwiw, I think she had more of a case.

NagooingForGold · 30/07/2012 21:49

I think it's down to the willingness to grovel.

MyndAndMist · 30/07/2012 21:50

Pants - ArtexMonkey DEFINITELY only had one post deleted on the thread which led to her being banned for 'repeated personal attacks'. I've seen it.

PantsOnFiore · 30/07/2012 21:50

TLP - It was, I was asking two (or even three possibly!) separate questions, and I was trying to name no names you slagbag Grin

  1. if sockpuppet and admit on other thread did it on purpose - are you banned? If not, why not?
  2. Tell us a little bit about the warning/banning procedure if they can
  3. Boffy seemed sure a mistake had been made (not connected to points above) she's not often wrong Grin so if a mistake was made would MNHQ fess up and apologise?
OP posts:
PantsOnFiore · 30/07/2012 21:53

MndandMist - And the sockpuppet definitely sockpuppeted because I saw that too.

I feel gaslighted Sad half Grin

Seriously MN you're good peeps normally. Has something gone wrong?

OP posts:
Olympia2012 · 30/07/2012 21:54

But the thread in question was ages ago, think I was on it

Olympia2012 · 30/07/2012 21:56

Some eople seem to lead a charmed life!

Sportofino · 30/07/2012 21:56

Anyone can post what they like on here. I do not agree that if anyone questions something that you posted previously and asks for clarification on an "inconsistency" that that is troll-hunting or bullying. If you don't want people to know about stuff, then don't type it up on t'interweb, or namechange, or make it clear that you have changed details to avoid recognition.

DON'T post lots of me threads with all the details of your life and then complain and get your threads hidden because someone actually read and remembered them.

RaisinDEritrea · 30/07/2012 21:58

I think we should leave in MNHQ's hands tbh, they are obv aware that feelings are running high

Plus it's 10 pm

ElephantsCanRemember · 30/07/2012 21:59

I agree Sporto.
If you want to build up a rapport with other posters, share personal details with them and become "known" then be prepared to take the rough with the smooth. Otherwise nc regularly, as many, many posters do. I don't see how it is possible to have it both ways.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 30/07/2012 22:00

Completely agree with Sporto and Elephants.

PantsOnFiore · 30/07/2012 22:02

Its like it in real life too really, if you slag your dp off for being a cheating bastard to your family/friends then the week after talk about how wonderful he is, there are bound to be some Hmm Hmm faces

OP posts:
GetOrfMoiIand · 30/07/2012 22:02

I have been on here years, and have been getorf for about 4.5 years, and have posted all about my life. I have never been 'bullied' or have people call out inconsistencies in my posts, because (frankly) I am not a bullshit merchant. It's not hard.

RunYouBastardRun · 30/07/2012 22:03

GetOrf, you're going to force my hand in starting another 'like' button campaign soon.

mumnosbest · 30/07/2012 22:05

whats a sock puppet? Blush
