Until the trolls are dealt with, I invite you to a mass ignore...

I won't be posting on mumsnet until this is sorted out and our lovely online home is our own again. Somewhere reasonably safe, with campaigns to be proud of like "We Believe You".

MN needs to be somewhere that women especially can feel welcome and free from the sort of harassment that invaders have subjected the site to lately.

I invite anybody else who feels the same way to a temporary withdrawal from posting.

Let's cut off the oxygen to twits, and come back when they've got bored.

Good luck to HQ with getting rid of them and making this the best site for women on the web again.

OP posts:
LittleGnu · 19/03/2012 16:40

so where are these threads then?

Melusina · 19/03/2012 16:41

Perhaps at the bottom of all posts we have a disclaimer?

Helen, the fact they're posting our comments left right and centre is scary.

The fact they'll post on any thread that so much as mentions the word "Father" is getting annoying.

And the hijack in Politics is still being left to stand. I reported a certain user as a potential troll for VERY obvious reasons this morning. He's still posting crap from F4J on the politics board.

I can understand you're all busy atm, but can we not find an alternative method of dealing with these posters for the time being? There are women here who feel at risk. :(

Tee2072 · 19/03/2012 16:42

Of course they are like toddlers. How can they actually threaten anyone here as they don't know who you actually are.

Just ignore them. Start more threads about regular things. They'll soon get bored and go away.

mumatron · 19/03/2012 16:44

the problem is tee a lot of mnetter are getting involved in this on the fb page. Not so easy to be anonymous over there.

usualsuspect · 19/03/2012 16:45

I would like a heads up who they are tbh , because I'm not sure who is a troll or not anymore.

Groovee · 19/03/2012 16:47

I've just been ignoring them.

LittleGnu · 19/03/2012 16:47

I think you lot are imagining it, or mistaking genuine views for trolling, as sometimes happens.

mumatron · 19/03/2012 16:48

yes littlegnu the whole of mumsnet is mistaken.

Hmm
Tee2072 · 19/03/2012 16:49

Well, mumatron that's their decision. If you put the 'real' you out there, the 'real' you will be open to all sorts of things.

But LeBof wasn't talking about not posting on FB. She is not posting here, on MN.

So F4J have won.

OhChristFENTON · 19/03/2012 16:49

It's a mass hallucination Shock Shock Shock

NinthWave · 19/03/2012 16:49

But Helen, if my toddler was threatening to shoot people, sharing personal details online and deliberately out to wind up & upset legitimate posters, I wouldn't ignore him!

He'd be for the ban hammer naughty step, all posting privileges revoked.

Having the upper hand by maintaining a dignified silence is one thing. Ignoring deliberate trolling, derailing and threats is something else. There are women on here who ARE NOT STRONG ENOUGH to 'debunk rape myths' when they're posted. They shouldn't have to.

FrothyDragon · 19/03/2012 16:49

Easier when your words haven't been plastered here I guess...

I seem to have become a bit of a hate figure for them. And I suppose it's my fault for calling them out in the first place, but I don't think any MN user deserves to be treated how F4J have treated us. Regardless of how outspoken they've been :(

I've asked 2 or 3 times for one of these threads...no reply.
And it's not "the whole of Mumsnet" either...just a few people.

NinthWave · 19/03/2012 16:51

Sorry, to clarify, my comment about rape myths isn't directly relevant to the F4J issue, but is something that's come up with reference to trolls and deliberate inflammatory posters.

FrothyDragon · 19/03/2012 16:52

And fwiw, none of those views F4J have plastered on the poster were about men and boys in general. None.

mumatron · 19/03/2012 16:53

must. not. engage. (repeat ad infinitum)

ShirleyKnot · 19/03/2012 16:54

Totally agree with ninthwave.

OracleInaCoracle · 19/03/2012 16:58

Thanks to the recent campaign threads, I have realised that I hav been raped and sexually assaulted many times, in addition to childhood abuse. I would normally use mn to talk this out. However, I don't feel safe enough to. I feel that there are far too many trolls on here for me to be honest. Posters have been threatened. Posters have been outed. This isn't making life easier.
