Hi MNHQ,

I wonder if you could tell me the reason behind endorsing/promoting a blog regarding a wife who believes her husband, a convicted rapist, is innocent. I was quite shocked to find it in the weekly parenting news e-mail.

There are a lot of women on MN who have been victims of rape and whose attackers will never be brought to justice. It is incredibly hard to get a rape conviction due to all the rape myths, one of which is women lie and the man didn't do it. I feel it is insulting to the victims of rape and could be triggering.

A couple of months ago you were asked to support a campaign to help dispel rape mytha which you looked on favourably here but endorsing this blog seems to fly in the face of that.

Thanks

Thank you Justine

@StewieGriffinsMom

Thank you Justine.

Will you be firming up guidelines on who and what blogs are chosen for the network? There are some incredible and passionate women bloggers on there who should be prompted.

Yes for sure we will look at the way we select blogs and promote them and make sure we have a few more checks and balances in place - am confident that this won't happen again.

DontCallMeFrothyDragon · 06/01/2012 22:22

Thank you, Justine.

IslaDoit · 06/01/2012 22:23

I think the women on this thread and others like Christine's, who've shared their experiences of rape and sexual assault, are inspirational, as was said earlier in the thread.

So I want to say thanks to them as well.

Hear hear TBE

And thanks for sorting that out so quickly Helen Thanks

IslaDoit · 06/01/2012 22:49

I think it's been rather civilised and I am pleased MNHQ did not pull the thread despite the blogger requesting it twice.

I wish I hadn't Googled now though. Tragic. Just tragic. Sad

AnyFucker · 06/01/2012 22:51

Please keep the thread

We all need to see how MNHQ can respond to their members, when it really matters

Individual posts may be better gone, but no the thread

thunderboltsandlightning · 06/01/2012 22:51

Agree with TBE.

And thanks for breaking into your evening Justine to deal with this.

AnyFucker · 06/01/2012 22:51

not

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 06/01/2012 22:52

Thank you very much Helen and Justine. Very much appreciated.

Thanks and Wine

I hope you're OK jentlydoesit if you're still reading this. I realise this thread must've been difficult for you and hope you can understand why people have made the objections they have.

flippinada · 06/01/2012 22:52

I agree that the thread should not be pulled.

I have refrained from posting before but would like to say thanks to everyone on here who has posted so eloquently and thoughtfully on this extremely distressing subject.

Special nod to AmoryCohetes.

And thank you to Justine as well.

Confused

How can this have got through? Did no one look at it and think "hmm, perhaps this needs a second look"?

I don't think it's just a procedure issue tbh. I think it's an ethos one. Even without knowing the details of the rape case, I think the very fact that it's a blog by someone insisting her DH is innocent of rape, when only 6% of reported rapists get a guilty conviction, really ought to have rang alarm bells in anyone who works at Mumsnet. The fact that it rang no bells at all and no one thought it was worthy of further probing just to check out that it was a good idea to run it, speaks volumes.

Sad

Sorry. I know htat's negative and I do acknowledge Justine's positive response, but I've been sitting on my hands all evening about this one. I am so sad that this slipped through.
