are we allowed to carry on discussing this?

OP posts:
Hullygully · 10/11/2011 14:51

I don't report anything either. I only did once and that was out of anger and spite. And to prove a point. Not a good thing.

See, I naively (?) assumed that HQ did read a whole thread, if a post was reported.

Maybe there should be an added extra on the tops of each thread, so we can report the whole thread, not just a post ?

Or have I missed that bit ?

silverfrog · 10/11/2011 14:53

because it is not attcking anything about the poster in a personal way, BIWI.

it is not naice, for sure, and may even be said in anger. but it is not an attack, imo.

but i appreciate that people see these things differently, which is why I (also on last thread) asked for clarification form MNHQ as to what exactly their boundaries on personal attacks are.

I don't like being put into a position where I have to complain bitterly in a 'but miss, she said....!' kind of way - if a post is reported, and deemed worthy of deletion, then the background should be looked into, and other associated posts deleted also (if necessary)

All I can say is that if you told me to 'fuck off', then I would take it personally.

ItsonlymeMrsDB · 10/11/2011 14:58

The trouble is, silver I think, that while "fuck off" is water off a ducks back to some people, in certain circumstances, it can be very offensive/upsetting to others.

And you will always gets people who do get offended for the sake of it, and who report for the sake of it.

silverfrog · 10/11/2011 14:58

well, maybe the policy on deletion should change, mj, and all posts be left to stand (which is what I would prefer anyway)

biwi - well, yes, if I told you to fuck off I would expect you to take it personally. as in addressed to you, showing my anger at what you siad, etc. but it's not, imo a personal attack.

fluffystabby · 10/11/2011 14:59

Itsonlyme Which is why every reported post would really be best taken in context surely?

Hullygully · 10/11/2011 15:00

You're so touchy, biwi

BecauseImWorthIt · 10/11/2011 15:02

Fuck off Hully

BecauseImWorthIt · 10/11/2011 15:02

I'm also very predictable Grin

ItsonlymeMrsDB · 10/11/2011 15:02

Yes, but the posters concerned can then say "well, I meant it in a jokey context" and the other/s can say "no, you were attacking me".

Bit like tit for tat ?

If that's the case, rather than just deleting a post, maybe HQ should mail the poster and say, "in what context did you mean that ?"

Fuck off ha ha, or fuck off horrible ?

I am over-thinking this, I know I am.

I hardly ever find anything offensive. Just think the poster is an arse.

Hullygully · 10/11/2011 15:04

Like that biwi.

Pinot · 10/11/2011 15:06

I would cry like a baby if I was sworn at.

You're all a bunch o'cunts.

BecauseImWorthIt · 10/11/2011 15:07

And a big one, hully

GrimmaTheNome · 10/11/2011 15:49

If you report a post, you send a message to MNHQ - you can ask them to look at the whole thread if you want rather than just a post.

GinSlinger · 10/11/2011 15:50

I'm with Hully [suck-up emoticon]- unless someone's obviously trolling I just tut and move on. I suppose if I posted more I'd get more pissed off but at the moment I can't imagine what someone would have to say to me to make me report them.

ponders if I'd be worried about being called a cunt or if i'd wear it with pride

Hullygully · 10/11/2011 15:50

pore ol MNHQ

They'll need to take on a few hundred extra staff.

ItsonlymeMrsDB · 10/11/2011 16:01

Thanks, Grimma.

Opinion seems to be that they don't though ?

Ach, well, I suppose they can argue that you don't have to stay reading, you can walk away from the screen ! [alien concept emoticon]

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 10/11/2011 16:06

I definitely think posts should just be left unless someone has said something well out of order. I think it's better to see what has been said and what people are really like.

I agree with SilverFrog - whilst someone might not like being told to Fuck Off it's not a personal attack in the way that 'You are ugly' is, is it? I also don't see why people can't take being told things like 'You are an idiot' - it's only someone's opinion, why take offence?
