are we allowed to carry on discussing this?

OP posts:
MollyTheMole · 10/11/2011 14:07

and its not a freecycle ad as such, its been c & pd, have just asked the OP if its been posted to promote the ad or to get agreement that using Freecycle for this is not on

GrimmaTheNome · 10/11/2011 14:15

I just found the freecycle one - I think it was just a regular poster bringing it to our attention, but I reported anyway so MNHQ can decide if it is going awry.

TheRhubarb · 10/11/2011 14:15

WHERE'S MY PM???????????

MollyTheMole · 10/11/2011 14:21

Goldfish bowl Rhubarb? Taking the piss are you?

Look we can join forces, if I get a PM I'll send it to you and if you get it send it to me, deal or no deal?

Grimma - you just beat me to it! I have seen the OP around alot but was still a bit Hmm at the timing of it...

TheRhubarb · 10/11/2011 14:22

Deal by the way!

ColdSancerre · 10/11/2011 14:23

MollyTheMole · 10/11/2011 14:26

You know it makes sense Rhubarb....

ColdSancerre - we're after the PM for the secret other forum, Im a nosey caaaaah, cant speak for Rhubarb but she strikes me as a nosey parker also

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 10/11/2011 14:30

Rhubarb - I see, thank you :)

fluffystabby · 10/11/2011 14:32

Justine

Is this policy going to be applied fairly and consistently across the boards from now on? Because there are a number of members who feel (and I am one of them) that it hasn't been up to now, and I for one would like to be reassured that there will be a fair and consistent policy from now on.

TheRhubarb · 10/11/2011 14:33

Yup, I'm a nosey cow and apparently there is a public forum of banned bearing a grudge mumsnetters who take delight in slagging off other not banned mumsnetters and mumsnet in general. So I just want a gander through to see what they are all saying about us.

BecauseImWorthIt · 10/11/2011 14:33

I think the key thing is that if you see someone being rude, attacking other posters, etc, then you have to report it to MNHQ. They do not moderate this site, which means there isn't someone reading every thread. Therefore it is actually pretty unfair to accuse them of inconsistency.

Where talk guidelines are being breached they will act, but only if their attention has been drawn to it.

ColdSancerre · 10/11/2011 14:36

Oh I have that forum in my history on my phone, will PM you Molly.

fluffystabby · 10/11/2011 14:37

Rhubarb as I said on the other thread, I'm on the other forum but I am not slagging anyone off here or elsewhere. The internet is a very big place surely there's room for everyone?

And as far as I can see, I'm not banned, but if MNHQ see fit to ban anyone for joining another forum then that's ridiculous. (and I don't think they would fwiw)

I do understand that posts need ot be reported to MNHQ, BIWI, but I do think that more consistency of deletion is needed.

I wrote an example on the last thread - I go deleted for telling aposter to fuck off, after they had delightfully told me they wished that dd2 came to harm form my decision to not vaccinate her.

I think that posters shoudl stand by what they type, and as such do not tend ot report posts (other than obvious trolling). my post got reported, and I got deleted - the original charming post was left to stand.

surely, if a post is reported then MNHQ should read the context, and decide on that?

(I do not agree, btw, that telling someone to fuck off is a personal attack)

otherwise, you can end up with some very one-sided deletions, where the original provocations are left ot stand (because no one reports them) but the retaliations are deleted (as someone takes offence at one side of the argument)

ColdSancerre · 10/11/2011 14:40

I agree with fluffystabby, I looke dthe other day and there was no bitching. I'm sure MNHQ don't give a stuff.

TheRhubarb · 10/11/2011 14:41

Fluffy, someone said that ex-Mumsnetters had started a forum because they were pissed off with MN and that they were slagging off MN and possibly other mumsnetters. Actually now that I have seen it (cheers DBF for the mention on your site) although it slags off Mumsnet it doesn't slag off any mumsnetters and that was all I was bothered about.

We've been down these other forums roads before and it never seems to end well, so I can only ask those involved not to take out frustrations on particular posters - so long as that doesn't happen then there's plenty of room for everyone!

You know, I google anti-mumsnet forum and came up with LOADS of blogs and so on that are very much anti-MN. No wonder I couldn't find this one!

Hullygully · 10/11/2011 14:41

I think MNHQ are consistent.

  1. A personal attack is drawn to their attention by one or many
  2. A warning is given
  3. It persists
  4. A warning of a ban is given
  5. It persists
  6. Warning is carried through.

OMG I am Gina Ford.

The key point is that whether or not you think 5 was justified and whatever it consisted of is irrelevant

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 10/11/2011 14:43

silverfrog - how is telling someone to 'fuck off' not a personal attack?!

I do agree with you, though, that MNHQ have been guilty of deleting posts without reading the whole thread properly, so that they don't always get the whole context or reason why someone might respond in a particular way.

Similar thing happened to me - someone making horribly homophobic comments (my oldest son is gay), and so I exploded in rage at them and said something probably along the lines of 'fuck off' Blush. My post was deleted but theirs was allowed to stand. Until I complained bitterly, and then their post was finally deleted.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 10/11/2011 14:49

I never report anything. I think provocative idiots should be seen to be such :)
