Let's talk about sex toys (well, ads for them on Mumsnet), please

Hello.

We'd like your opinions, please, on Mumsnet taking ads for stores/sites that sell sex toys.

We accepted a campaign for one site like this earlier in the week - and then removed it after receiving a fair number of complaints.

So, what we need to know now is...

Do you mind ads for stores/sites that sell sex toys - generally speaking?

Does it matter which stores/sites these are? And what kind of stuff they're selling?

And, if you wouldn't run a mile from these kinds of ads, would you be happy to see them all over Mumsnet (with the obvious exception of our more sensitive topics such as Bereavement, Special Needs, Relationships, Miscarriage etc)? Or would you prefer them only to be in Chat?

Do please post and let us know your thoughts.

Thanks MNHQ

Good point uppity that MN's USP is probably theur engagement with theur membership.

GetOrfMo1Land · 10/10/2011 16:57

I was made to wear brown cords as a child. That is why theye will never be in season to me as an adult.

AnyCorpseFucker · 10/10/2011 16:59

theur ??

wtf..

mustard cords are the dog's this season I am told

< not happening here >

I do have a pair of black skinny cords though. They are ok.

toosoontoosoon · 10/10/2011 17:05

Wow I've GOT some mustard cords from about 6 years ago and yes they do actually rock. I didn't realise I had established an entire trend though Hmm

Rispretto (sorry can't remember name properly from right down here at bottom of page, that's my best guess) I was going on the tone of your writings. Sorry if I've upset you. But your post about AF and Hully was really Enid Blyton, kind of looking down your nose and I didn't like it.

Come on then, prove how nice you can be Smile

swallowedAfly · 10/10/2011 17:13

i find it hard to reconcile 'right wing' and 'nice' tbh. awfully prejudiced of me maybe but there you go.

toosoontoosoon · 10/10/2011 17:15

well I wasn't going to sAY that Smile

yummytummy · 10/10/2011 19:28

hi. dont know if its too late to add my thoughts. for me personally i wouldnt feel comfortable with these kinds of ads here. like someone said if you want that kind of thing its accessed easily enough. really wouldnt want to explain such things to v small dcs! and not just that makes me feel uncomfortable not sure exactly why? maybe just too blatantly in your face? would definitely prefer if it could be avoided. agree posh lingerie is ok.

toosoontoosoon · 10/10/2011 20:04

I've already apologised.

I'm not sure what else I can say.

toosoontoosoon · 10/10/2011 20:05

I was only being facetious.

You seem a bit nicer now if it's any comfort.

nethunsreject · 10/10/2011 20:25

What's going on now then? Thread seems to have descended into bickering!

Fair play for taking the ads off, MNHQ. It's good that you have listened to your masters users.

However, what the hell you were thinking in the first place is beyond me.

You used to refuse McDs too. And bloody Innocent, no part of Coca Cola. It'll be Nestle subsidiaries soon, mark my words.

This wouldn't have happened in t'olden days.

nethunsreject · 10/10/2011 20:26

NOW part of coke, not No part. Ffs

weevilswobble · 10/10/2011 20:37

Wish this thread and the subject would go away. Its such a pile of shite when some poor wee girl needs some bf support elsewhere.
Take ya speculors and stick em where the sun dont shine.

higgle · 10/10/2011 21:27

I forgot to ask - would we get a discount? 10% would be OK, I'm not quite adventurous enough to benefit from buy 3 and get the fourth for £1.

AlysWorld · 10/10/2011 21:35

Thanks for listening MNHQ

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 10/10/2011 22:14

(haven't read the whole thread)
I wouldn't have a problem with it, in fact some of their more mainstream stuff seems quite reasonable compared to Ann summers.
And I think that within reason and between consenting adults there's nothing wrong with sex toys/light bondage whatever

However I do tend to MN whilst at work or when DS is playing in the same room and wouldn't want anyone to see he ads over my shoulder so for that reason I think they should be avoided, or like someone else suggested get a "Friday night" topic and just have them here. (I would love a "Friday night topic!)
