MNHQ .. Can we talk about disability bashing?

Over the years i have posted on and enjoyed MN.
Sadly there seems to be a growing culture of it being okay to have a go at disabilities, those who claim DLA and those who's children have 'invisable' disabilities such as ADHD and ADD.
The terms 'freak' and 'scrounger' have been batted around and comments from some posters IMO certainly boarder on harrassment and discrimination.

When certain posts or posters have been reported, some have been removed, yet a lot haven't.

And while I agree with free speech, these types of comment or reaction to these comments, are not an education for those bigoted posters. Nor do those whose lives are touched by disability wish to be used to educate those posters.

Disability Harassment

is unwanted behaviour based on disability,
impairment or additional need. Such behaviour may include comments that are patronising or objectionable to the recipient or which creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive environment for people with disabilities. Disability harassment includes inappropriate reference to disability, unwelcome discussion of the impact of disability, refusal to work with and exclusion of people with disabilities from social events or meetings.

well I want to talk about the sensory room at dd's school, wow they have so improved it.
it has this thing
OMI Mat - Images are projected onto a gesture controlled interactive mat which has 3 templates (effects); each template has over 20 interactive applications. The templates produce different types of visual effect when interacted with:
it is a large board on the floor, but if they put white sheets on the kids trays they can use it in their chairs it is soooo coll

Brownsugarshortbread · 10/06/2011 16:55

That sounds very very cool :)

Shoesy - that sounds fab Smile

Peachy · 10/06/2011 18:46

It does sound fab

it's the sort of thing DH will be learning to design next year I think

Mouseface · 10/06/2011 18:50

Oooh - Peachy, that's great. I'd love to do something like that. We're planning our garden out now for nemo this summer. Lots of textures, smell, sounds and colours. Exciting!

Peachy · 10/06/2011 18:54

I'd love sensory garden but ds1's reaction to smell is bad whatever it is. So we have a veg garden instead.

Am going to try building in some rainbow chard and toehr brights next eyar to combine the two a little.

Mouseface · 10/06/2011 19:11

Same with Nemo he has a really weak gag reflex so we have gentle smells as opposed to anything too toxic!

No herbs allowed! Grin

Peachy · 10/06/2011 19:27

A weak gag reflex is a bugger.

For ds1 the best thing has been to have lots of tiny hidey dens (small agrden but eg behind a fruit bush) as he does like that

Mouseface · 10/06/2011 19:33

That's lovely Peachy - little hidden treasures. Smile

can we have a re cap please, what has changed?, cos I can only see a tweak with the wording, which is good but unless backed up with action is meaningless, are mn hq going to have zero tolerance? or are we still going to have the words "educate" and "hide" emailed to us? has anything Actually changed ?

Mouseface · 11/06/2011 13:55

Agree Shoesy - I'm not sure what the actual outcome of this thread is. Confused

MNHQ - can we have a basic list of where we all stand on disablist language, rules on thread titles, whether it threads/words will be removed?

And will it be a three strikes and you're out?

Shoesytwoesy · 11/06/2011 22:54

fobbed off springs to mind

Peachy · 12/06/2011 10:25

They deleted the anti Sn thead today thankfully

But why have we yet again got a rash of anti DLA threads appearing? WTF is going on?

Shoesytwoesy · 12/06/2011 11:22

yes I saw that, well don mn hq and thanks.
I think we have a couple of trolls stirring, they seem to pop up on a lot of threads, all most like that are c&p ing (get it?) I would love ot know if mn hq are aware.
the dla bashing is borring can't even be arsed to post tbh, same old same old stuff. maybe a we need a DLA bashing topic lol

Peachy · 12/06/2011 11:33

It's quite scary that we now have someone trying to use their status as PRU Teacher to deny the existence of ADHD on a thread; is that OK? I mean, we cannot know their professional background fiir sure yet many will take it as gospel what tehy say nto relaising etaching SEN requires no extra training or skills (see somethingwitty82 for what I am talking about, here thread.

Yes me too about that poster 2shoes, she's just always there with her ha'penny

The one I mentioned is new but has a similar pattern too.

Peachy · 12/06/2011 11:38

KMNHQ can you confoiorm that you are watching these two please? At eh bery least soemthing should alarm when they go on delicate threads.

Peachy · 12/06/2011 11:38

Reported my post so MNHQ are aware.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 12/06/2011 11:49

Somethingwitty only said he/she had worked at a PRU. Might easily be a cleaner or lunchtime supervisor. Doesn't sound like a teacher, does he/she?
