Regular MN users who don't pay subs...

Just wondering why?

Have you forgotten, can you not afford it, do you just think it's not necessary?

Not trying to force anyone to pay, just curious

Some subscribers ask not to be listed.

Caligula · 02/11/2005 11:25

I didn't for ages because i kidded myself that I was not addicted, did not need it and shouldn't encourage myself.

Eventually gave up.

Sometimes I wish they'd introduce a fee of £50 per post, so that I would have to kick the habit!

SoupDragon · 02/11/2005 11:27

I must say I like the way that it's voluntary and a "whatever you can afford" type arrangement. Makes for a much more diverse set of posters IMO.

BudaBabe · 02/11/2005 11:29

Having been feeling guilty for a while about not paying, thanks to recent threads reminding me, I have just paid up!!

I feel all legal!

Nickinha · 02/11/2005 11:29

I would not mind giving a bit if I can spare it, but how would i pay? Live in portugal and dont own a credit card

Lizzylou · 02/11/2005 11:29

I complete forget to, although I'm not very regular on MN at the moment, it always comes up when I am skint and awaiting payday!...I do think it should be voluntary and don't see why a list is published on the site (particularly if some people have said that they don't want to be named)

Marina · 02/11/2005 11:31

Mixture of first two for an eighteen month period (I do think annual reminders for those of us who are able/willing to pay would be helpful!). But have paid annually as a rule. Also contribute in kind as a Moderator
Agree with Soupy in principle but am sometimes a bit surprised about how aggressively anti-contributions some posts have been in the past. NB not thinking of anyone specific or recent, just recollections of heated debate previously.

Toothache · 02/11/2005 11:31

I can't remember when I last paid it! Don't know if another one is due yet!!!

Marina · 02/11/2005 11:32

Exactly Toothy. It is very easy to lose track. A tick box when you sign up, or amendable later on your Member Profile, saying, please nag me about CASH annually, would be useful IMO.

Gem754 · 02/11/2005 11:32

Just can't afford it at the momment as adjusting to having only 1 wage in the household, but I will do when things settle down.

CountessDracula · 02/11/2005 11:34

Not pointing fingers as I know that some people aren't listed!

Just being nosey

I cant afford to pay subs. DH works his arse off doing 13hrs a day and we have just enough to feed us and keep roof over heads...not including baby who is due next month. I would pay if i could as mn has been great to me in terms of friends and advice.

SoupDragon · 02/11/2005 11:35

I thought that I did receive reminders to subscribe... I certainly wouldn't remember otherwise!

troublesmummy · 02/11/2005 11:37

I posted about this yesterday. Only been on MN for 3 months. But have now payed up. DP is on lots of forums and he thought it was a little strange to be asked to contribute. But considering the amount of time i've been spending on here since i found it, i decided i should contribute

CountessDracula · 02/11/2005 11:38

The amount is up to you right? £5 a year is 0.013p per day or 10p a week!

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 02/11/2005 11:38

I don't and won't pay.

NomDePlume · 02/11/2005 11:38

I only paid £5 last year because it was all I could stretch to at the time.

CountessDracula · 02/11/2005 11:43

Ah good hunkermunker, now why not? Do you think it is the sort of thing you shouldn't have to pay for?

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 02/11/2005 11:47

I don't feel I need to justify what I spend my money on, or don't spend it on...however...

I've contributed to individual MNers. I just feel that a commercial site should be able to fund itself.

I contribute to MN in other ways.

I'm skint.

Take your pick.

CountessDracula · 02/11/2005 11:49

Fair enough

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 02/11/2005 11:50

I thought so too

This might sound a bit flaky but ... we're all busy mums with loads on our plates. I feel MN towers need to be more pushy with reminders.

I've always meant to subscribe but haven't got round to it.
I turn on the computer and as if by magic Mumsnet appears. I honestly can't remember ever being asked to subscribe.

Call me naive but the first I knew of subscriptions was during the notorious Milupa furore. I meant to subscribe then but couldn't quite work out how to do it and soon forgot to bother.

This thread has shamed me into sending off a cheque today by the way.

Well done CountessD.

I only did recently. I had thought about it....and in the light of several things that mnetters are doing......misdee and peter and other incidents also, I subscribed the other day!

I don't think everyone should have to, but perhaps we should be reminded a little more...for example i spent 15 minutes looking for the subscription link!
