Cuppa or Hot Beverage?

HelenMumsnet · 11/02/2011 11:43

Hello. The result of our cup of tea emoticon poll show a clear win for the cuppa fans.

So.... all that remains is to decide what text we all type in to make our cup of tea emoticon appear.

Would you like [cuppa] ?

Or the rather less liquid-specific/more amusing but longer-to-type [hot beverage] ?

Do let us know...

Helen Uh Oh.... .... not a good idea!! All along you have said it's going to be an all inclusive hot drink emoticon if it goes ahead, now you are doing a very 'proper cup of tea' emoticon. I think you need to go back to the emoticons and choose another! A lovely MUG, it will make your life a LOT easier!!

Frankly, I'm a tea & coffee drinker and when needs must I'll drink out of an old boot Grin but this was cause hassle if you go with a cup & saucer.... mark my words young lady, mark my words (you have to practice these things don't you!! LOL).

So a MUG emoticon and [MUG] - it's the only option!

Brew

or [mug]

i thnk [mug] could come in handy on some of the relatioship threads Shock er

AtYourCervix · 11/02/2011 12:25

and you get more caffine for your dosh from a nice big [mug] and those of us with slight clumsiness ishoos can't cope with having 2 separate breakable things to hand at the same time.

HettyAmaretti · 11/02/2011 12:28

I think a cup and saucer is nice. The will be moaners though. Campaigns demanding [coffee] etc. Probably easier just to go with a mug from the start.

Geocentric · 11/02/2011 12:28

Maybe Chipping is on to something - let's have an old boot instead! Grin

cairnterrier · 11/02/2011 12:29

I like brew, mug and cuppa. Well anything that's warm and wet really. Although that will probably be misconstrued.

Think I need a cup of tea. :)

schroeder · 11/02/2011 12:31

Despite being from the south I embrace the all inclusive word Brew.

I understand not everyone would know what it was though, I was clueless the first time I was offered one.Confused

HelenMumsnet · 11/02/2011 12:31

@RamonaFlowers

[Hot Bev]

Also open to misinterpretation....Grin

lol at this

Definitely the cup of tea :)

systemsaddict · 11/02/2011 12:32

hooray for Brew! all inclusive and welcoming

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 11/02/2011 12:33

brew or cuppa

someonesgotthenameichose · 11/02/2011 12:35

T or failing that brew

EldritchCleavage · 11/02/2011 12:37

[tea] please.

CarrieABag · 11/02/2011 12:39

I think we need [mug], with a mug shaped emoticion.

Or [cup], with just a cup and no saucer because
Mumsnet is not exactly genteel is it? Grin

A cup and saucer says "older generation" and "posh" to me.

camerondiazepam · 11/02/2011 12:39

A vote for [mug] here - back to the drawing board with you...

NormanTheForeman · 11/02/2011 12:41

Either [cup] or [mug], I don't mind! But definitely no saucer - I never use one myself. It wouldn't be the thing on a building site, would it?

systemsaddict · 11/02/2011 12:43

I think you have to think of the syntax here. People are going to type, 'here, have a [...]', aren't they? The way they type, 'here, have a Biscuit' or 'here, have some Wine'. So, it needs to fit in with that. You wouldn't say 'here, have a [mug]', would you? You would say 'have a Brew', or 'have a [cuppa]'. (And no one would say 'have a [hot beverage]'.)

NormanTheForeman · 11/02/2011 12:45

Brew is good (could be a brew of anything). Or [cuppa] as that could be coffee, but I'm not sure whether the Horlicks/Bovril/hot chocolate people would go for that .....

Geocentric · 11/02/2011 12:46

Capreece now that is a nice tea set. Envy

NormanTheForeman · 11/02/2011 12:46

And while I'm at it, I'd like to say a big Thank You to MNHQ for allowing use to vote on this most important matter. It has made me a very happy chap.

NormanTheForeman · 11/02/2011 12:47

Us, obviously, not use!

TanteRose · 11/02/2011 12:48

also....(look at your keyboard)

BREW is really easy to type

brew
brew Grin

crapbarry · 11/02/2011 12:49

[mug] is good, as it can be used as an insult/term of self-deprecation too. you can't call someone a hot beverage or a cup when they've been a mug.

nickytwotimes · 11/02/2011 12:49

I think that perhaps [tea] is most appropriate because it conveys that nurutring -there-there-sweetie emotion a la Eastenders.
