Web page warnings

YetMoreTech · 22/12/2010 09:13

We are aware that some people are receiving warnings when trying to open certain pages on Mumsnet. This is related to a problem with one of the ads that we serve on some of our pages. Whilst we investigate further we've stopped serving any ads. As such, all pages on the site are safe to visit. Once the problem is resolved the ads will return in all their glory and we will request to be removed from the blacklist which drives these warnings.

Apologies for any inconvenience or scaring anyone!

firefox won't let us ignore the warnings.

PrincessBoo · 22/12/2010 10:28

Pah, I only really post on one thread and it won't let me look at it. Pah.

sfxmum · 22/12/2010 10:43

thanks for that I am getting a lot of those and was wondering what on earth was going on

sfxmum · 22/12/2010 10:44

can't ignore them either

coldtits · 22/12/2010 10:45

This does not seem to have affected windows explorer yet, just firefox.

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 22/12/2010 10:50

Happening here too. DH is home today so I thought maybe he did it to stop me MNing. But he is far too hungover to do such a thing. And I am too hungover to do much else.

Valpollicella · 22/12/2010 10:54

Coldtits, that interesting - I got it last night using Chrome but switched to Firefox and had no problems then. May be different today though

Furball · 22/12/2010 11:00

I use Explorer and when I opened the laptop this morning was met with a bright red screen saying virus warning.

YetMoreTech · 22/12/2010 11:03

The root cause of the problem has gone, but you will continue to get the warnings until the blacklist is updated by Google. We've requested they do this but it can take a while.

Just to be clear, the warning does NOT mean you've got a virus.

With firefox you can just go back a page, and carry on as you were.

The warnings are still coming, though.

notheroldefashoinedbahHumbug · 22/12/2010 11:17

I cant go forward or back or anything!
Dont know how i opened this page, but I did so i will moan.

Its snowy outside, its cold, the kids are ill and I NEED my dose of MN to keep me sane.

nickeldonkeybethlehemsinsight · 22/12/2010 11:20

Lynette - I can't do anything on firefox.
I'm doing all this on ie7.
just checked it again, and even clicking on thread i'm on brings it up.

LynetteScavo · 22/12/2010 11:24

Ahhhhhh! I can't post of soooo many threads!

And for some reason I can't log in on AOL...haven't been able to for ages, but have been using firefox instead.

Now I can read threads on AOL, but not post.

Where is the frustrated smiley?

nickeldonkeybethlehemsinsight · 22/12/2010 11:25

have you got Internet Explorer on your computer?
might be worth trying that.

PrettyCandlesAndTinselToo · 22/12/2010 11:32

Ahhhh the pleasures of Macs. Haven't a clue what you're all talking about, as I haven't had any problems MNing on my iPhone. But now I am forewarned! And I shan't use the PC for MN until Tech gives the full all-clear.

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 22/12/2010 11:36

ahhhh - glad it's all being sorted.

For the poster that wanted to know if Chaos got down the hill - yes she did - and the thread went slightly bonkers!!

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 22/12/2010 11:53

have had to resort to using IE now.

GrizzlyMacDuff · 22/12/2010 12:01

oh good, just had this myself! wondered what it might mean...

usualsuspect · 22/12/2010 12:21

I'm off out in the snow ...please be fixed later

pinkteddy · 22/12/2010 12:25

still getting warnings on firefox its 12:25 now.

YetMoreTech · 22/12/2010 12:31

pinkteddy, yep, you'll continue to get warnings for a while.

The warnings are not shown because there is a problem with the page, they're shown because the site is on a blacklist. It was put on the blacklist because of a legitimate problem with ads (nothing to do with a particular thread, particular user or anyone reporting anything) but that problem has been resolved. Trouble is, it takes a while to get the list updated.

Apologies for any inconvenience.
