Web page warnings

We are aware that some people are receiving warnings when trying to open certain pages on Mumsnet. This is related to a problem with one of the ads that we serve on some of our pages. Whilst we investigate further we've stopped serving any ads. As such, all pages on the site are safe to visit. Once the problem is resolved the ads will return in all their glory and we will request to be removed from the blacklist which drives these warnings.

Apologies for any inconvenience or scaring anyone!

Just had a warning, am using chrome on windows

GraceAwayInAManger · 22/12/2010 13:01

Thanks for the update. My computer was attacked.

QuintMissesChristmasesPast · 22/12/2010 13:05

So, some of the ads WERE hosting malware then?

What sort of malware? To what end?

Will you be banning this advertiser in the future?

I am very concerned. I am already bypassing my proxy and my firewall to use mumsnet. My proxy runs a webfilter due to content, which is why I am happy to bypass as I can handle what I read.

I'd like to think I am safe when using mumsnet, but if you are allowing advertisements with malicious script, then I am concerned.

thebrownstuff · 22/12/2010 13:32

what quint said

simpson · 22/12/2010 13:34

I have got the warning too on firefox. Although only for certain threads Hmm

Seems to be running ok on IE though Smile

GraceAwayInAManger · 22/12/2010 14:00

What happened:

Yesterday my PC opened Windows Media Player by itself and requested an update. I declined and closed WMP.

Half an hour later, Adobe Acrobat opened an update request. I declined. As a side note, lots of malwares use Adobe updates as a vehicle, so I always get my updates direct from adobe.com.

Ten minutes later, my browser said Mumsnet/Talk/relationships needed to install software to "view all the content on this page". Thanks to the two incidents above, I knew some malware was trying to get in, so I declined.

If not for the WMP & Adobe requests earlier, I would have said yes because I trust Mumsnet. So this is an isue.

I did a full scan last night - nothing found, so it must have been a malware that needs to be installed.

Mumsnetters who DID accept software updates while they had Mumsnet open should do a scan immediately - and, depending on what the malware was, change their important passwords.

DidEinsteinsMumDoSanta · 22/12/2010 14:06

i got lots of requests for updates yesterday too Grace. But i dont like them. so ignore them. Very glad that i did. Although didnt get a request for software update for using mn though.

GraceAwayInAManger · 22/12/2010 14:06

Mumsnet - which ad was it? I clicked on the Radox one. Am I likely to have exposed my computer and/or email account to hijacks?

I used an email address that's already been hijacked - my 'ad response' one Wink - but I think we should be told!

Mumi · 22/12/2010 14:12

I get the attack warning while logged in but not while posting by entering my nickname and password each time Confused
(she said while hoping this posts!)

GlynistheMincePie · 22/12/2010 14:15

thanks for posting that GraceAway.....

I never install those updates if they pop up, I leave that to my son. But............

A friend tried to send me some pictures via Hotmail. I could only open the 1st one, and then it flashed up that I needed to install new software to view the whole slideshow. I panicked and shut it down, then Avast flashed up saying it had caught a Trojan Horse!

Is this the same thing I wonder?

Xmas Blush if it's totally unrelated, I'm such a technophobe Xmas Shock

LilyPickle · 22/12/2010 14:18

I had the same problems last night as GraceAwayInAManger although I don't remember clicking on any ads at all. At the moment I can open about 2 threads, the rest get the big red warning.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 22/12/2010 14:33

Oddly, this is about one of the only threads I can open today, and am now getting the funny messages about the page being blocked. How bizarre!

beijingaling · 22/12/2010 14:49

Elf I'm having the same problem!

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 22/12/2010 14:51

I'm off work today wtih DD as she has been poorly, and thought I'd have an hour mumsnetting, obviously this is a bit ploy to make me tidy up instead!

coffeeinbed · 22/12/2010 15:01

I'm on Mac but do have an anti-virus programme - paranoid! - and it's been flashing up.

NiceShoes · 22/12/2010 15:20

I can not post replies, I get red attack screen.

DidEinsteinsMumDoSanta · 22/12/2010 15:29

is it not fixed yet?

tribpot · 22/12/2010 15:36

Seems to have got worse, if anything.

Sidge · 22/12/2010 15:38

It's driving me potty, I use Firefox and am getting the attack screen with every page I view. I replied to a post, got the attack screen, it looked like I hadn't been able to reply but then my reply was there.

Better get it sorted MN before peak MNing time tonight!
