Looks like someone has found the posts regarding under-13s using FaceBook and decided to report

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1109156

to the StopBadware.org service. Although the idea is not a bad one, the service is used by Google to 'alert' (like 'scare the hell') people that a site may infect their PC, and does its utmost to stop the user from visiting.

Happened also to a client of mine (photographer with his own site) and lost him some visitors and potential work.

I'm using Safari and still getting loads of warnings.

SantasNutellaFairy · 22/12/2010 08:25

Firefox here- has ahappened to 3 of the past 6 pages I have tried to look at.

NetworkGuy · 22/12/2010 08:26

SilveyMoon - do you remember adding anything to Chrome, or could an anti-virus application have altered it, perhaps?

Using Chrome (version 8.0.552.224) here but only checked 2 threads which I know FF blocked and they are OK with Chrome on my PC.

Also happening on "Am I being unreasonable?
to feel pissed off that the parcel I lovingly slaved over has apparently been received but no one has even mentioned they've received it, not to... "

I viewed and posted on this thread last night.

lenak · 22/12/2010 08:28

NetworkGuy

I've posted this elsewhere as well, but in case it helps:

I got the malware message when I tried to enter the site (after typing the url into my browser), not just when I tried to access a thread.

As soon as the site loaded my anti-virus software blocked an attack on my computer from newbadnews.info.

The risk name was: HTTP Fragus Toolkit Download Activity with a High Severity.

I have no idea what any of it means but posted in case these details are helpful.

lenak · 22/12/2010 08:28

Oh - and I'm using Chrome

BlathIceSkate · 22/12/2010 08:28

and "Am I being unreasonable?
I can havce birthday drink today even if I might be a week or so pregnant, can't I? "

Again, I posted on this last night

NetworkGuy · 22/12/2010 08:29

Blath - think StopBadware lets Google have database as Google has worldwide resources probably as big/bigger than Microsoft and Firefox says it uses the Google feature to check.

NG I don't think I've added anything.....
I'm now on IE and am accessing threads I couldn't on chrome.

NetworkGuy · 22/12/2010 08:33

thanks lenak.

Chrome probably 'looks' at web links as you type them.

AVG has a 'link check' facility (I turned it off as it adds lots of delays to check every link on some big pages) on similar lines.

Seems www.mumsnet.com might be listed, possibly for a prank, or more malicious reason.

Matter of time until lots of sections (perhaps all of site) flash spurious warnings, depending on which browser you use.

I've seen it suggested that DP is doing it as revenge for being banned. No evidence whatsoever obviously.

Longtinsellyjosie · 22/12/2010 08:41

Thanks NetworkGuy... sounds like MNHQ have their work cut out for them this morning!

weblette · 22/12/2010 08:49

Thanks NG, think I may pop back this afternoon.

ForFestiveSake · 22/12/2010 08:52

I just got it on a thread I started myself - am getting it in AIBU, sleep, relationships etc...

InkyStamp · 22/12/2010 08:53

Goah, this could seriously screw up MN!!

mousymouse · 22/12/2010 08:54

I am using safari and the same thing happens here

ledodgy · 22/12/2010 08:54

I'm on an iPad using safari and am getting no blocks either.

FlightoftheCrimbleTree · 22/12/2010 08:55

It's a bit like that film where all the people get turned into alien pods.

I hope someone is alive at MNHQ.

backwardpossom · 22/12/2010 08:56

I've switched to Safari and not having any problems at the moment. Whay a PITA!

NetworkGuy · 22/12/2010 08:59

mousymouse - maybe there's some anti-virus add-on in your copy of Safari... I assume you are using Apple system, not Safari on a Windows PC ?

NetworkGuy · 22/12/2010 09:01

"I hope someone is alive at MNHQ."

Depends what browsers they are using - big PITA for staff if they are affected...

Morning all,
We are aware of the issue and tech are busy looking into it as we speak, we will post again when we know more.

YetMoreTech · 22/12/2010 09:03

We're aware of this and are working on it. It's related to a bad advert, so we're not serving any ads at all at the moment. All will be back to normal shortly.

TrillianAstra · 22/12/2010 09:04

[fbear] while we wait?
