TESCO failed to deliver and left me with no milk for this morning AND THEY COULDN'T CARE LESS

Sorry for the caps but TESCo really are the pits.

They were meant to delivr last night but didn't and I couldn't get through last night.

Checked pC this morning and it showed the order as having been delivered.

Waited till just gone 9 to ring and they said they couldn't find the house so didn't deliver. (they've delivered here before)

Told them I had no milk or food and had an 18 month old in the house and their attitude was that it wasn't their problem.

PLUS they've taken the money out of my account- the girl made it sound like a favour that they were going to put it back in. I told her too right they were going to put it back in- it was my money and they had no right to have it- BUT it'll take a few days. They can't redeliver the order till monday. I told them that was my shopping money and how was I meant to get food now and they said there was nothing they could do.

My husband rang them and they were just as 'couldn't care' with him. Luckily I had other money but what if I didn't? Their attitude really stinks.

Plus I live in the center of a town so it's not rural or hard to find- i asked why the driver didn't get out to look for the house and they said that they didn't do that.

They really are the pits. They move into an area- undercut everyone and then when they've closed all the small businesess they hike their prices and deliver crap service- because tey can.

Right sorry abdout that- Rant over

The point is, TG, if Tesco f** up,most people still use the, whereas they're a lot harder on the average independent retailer.

What do you suggest? Buy your own cow???

Phone the manager of the branch from which your order was to be delivered. I had a similar experience - having spoken to call centre person, then her supervisor (with no joy) I demanded to be put through to store manager. Once through I asked them to put the groceries, which had been selected, in a taxi. They couldn't get their heads round this concept, initially saying it would break health and safety rules (pah!) but eventually did and the groceries arrived along with £40 in vouchers. I had to get pretty stroppy but their service was unacceptable. I'm sure I have a big black mark against my name as a difficult customer but I really don't care!! I have tried all of the alternatives and they are still the best, in my experience, but of course the more powerful companies get the more they are in danger of becoming complacent.

WigWamBam · 07/08/2005 11:54

Maggie, I was about to suggest the same thing. I had only half my shopping delivered, and when I got no joy from the customer services chappie, I called and ranted at the store direct. Twenty minutes later the manager delivered my shopping himself, and made sure that I had a complete refund as well.

It's definitely worth a try.

SaintGeorge · 07/08/2005 11:57

Yes, straight to the store manager every time.

I'm another 'black mark' customer probably as I complain very loudly if things go wrong - but I always get the problem sorted and get compensation too.

pacinofan · 07/08/2005 13:08

Pixiefish, am appalled to hear your experience. I use Tesco delivery and have done for about 2 years. Initially, quite a few probs but loads better than Sainsbury's (live semi-rural so only choice of 2 suppliers). I ALWAYS complain, for every item missing, overcharged, or poor quality. I know folks who can't be bothered to complain, but the way I see it is we pay loads in the UK for fresh produce so yes, complain when it's not to standard! Have to say the service has improved hugely (I'm in Cheshire) but not so daft as to think it's solely down to my complaining!

Have never experienced what you have, worst was possibly a delivery around Christmas with loads of really old fruit and veg that was past it's sell-by date and it arrived late. I got the delivery refunded and complained to the Store Manager in writing. He sent us a £10 voucher - which was better than nothing and got us some lovely steak!. Yours is a truly appalling experience, and I sincerely hope your complaint is taken seriously and you receive some form of compensation. Good luck!

nutcracker · 07/08/2005 14:05

That is appaling Pixiefish I would be soooo mad.

I use them and for about the last 4 times there has been at least 3 items of my shopping missing and whn I ring all they do is refund me the money, never mind wether I particuarly needed the stuff or not.

FIMAC1 · 07/08/2005 14:51

I have refused to shop in Tesco's since my half term holiday when we shopped in Co-op - I always felt a distaste for Tesco's, in that they are FAR too big and have a history of taking over towns and killing off local traders.

Although Co-Op is national they seem far more ethical and I can shop there without feeling guilty!!!

Please boycott Tesco's!! Shop local or ethically, Asda aren't much better as they are now owned by Walmart who have a history of taking over towns in the US and local traders going under

Although I am just one shopper boycotting the local Tesco, if we all put our money where our mouths were.....
Rant over!!!

no Ocado? No Ocado? Can't offer any help then. When Tescos let me down one time too many I swapped to Ocado and they are brilliant.

Favourite one from Tescos: I used to drink in the pub nearest to the tennis in Wimbeldon. I left the pub regrettably early one day cos I had a Tescos order due. I live the other side of the pub from the championships, so I had to come through

fisil · 07/08/2005 15:17

oops - wriggly baby - so I had to come through past the tennis to race home to be there for the delivery. But it was fine - I got through without a problem - it was a light day. But the order didn't arrive at all. Reason: The tennis! I live about 5 miles away and the Tescos is 1/2 mile from my house in the other direction!

Littlestarsweeper · 07/08/2005 15:17

Yes, well i recommend you dont buy your christmas presents from them. Although I have had many home deliveries with little bother I was disgusted at the attitude of Customer Services. I had bought some stocking fillers max price £10. The map reader thingy counted in kilometers whilst the map was in inches! The luxury crackers x 8 duplicated the jokes in 6 of them. The windscreen tax holder was held on my double sided tape but to open and enclose the tax disc you had 8 screws to undo. They couldnt give a monkeys. I wrote three times enclosing the item numbers, which they couldnt locate on the computer and finally they would only consider a refund if i sent everything back. (Bit late for the crackers)! I should of reported them to trading standards really but couldnt be bothered in the end. The recipients of the presents probably thought I had bought them in a pound shop which is a bit

helsi · 07/08/2005 15:18

I am not using TESCO anymore. Had too many issues with them.

FIMAC1 · 07/08/2005 15:41

I also felt uneasy when the annual figures came out for Supermarkets share of the market earlier in the year, Tesco's share was farrrr tooo big

It'll all end in tears

snafu · 07/08/2005 15:47

I have cut-and-pasted an old rant about Tesco becasue I couldn't be bothered to rewrite it Suffice to say I have never used their online service since and I never go in their stores now. I really, really do hate Tesco.

Had an account with them for a year or so, and then we moved. Placed an onlne order from the new place, then after I'd pressed 'send', realised that our old address was still on the account details. So immediately rang customer services to ask them if it could be sent to the new address. They took my credit card details again as a check and told me 'no problem whatsoever, madam'.

Delivery never turned up. So called customer services again only to be told that my account had been closed and I was no longer able to use Tesco online. Turns out that my new address was in an area 'well known' for fraudulent orders, and when I rang to 'suddenly' change my address, they closed my account, assuming I was trying pull a fast one. This despite me giving a perfectly valid credit card no. I ranted at the rude, aggressive jobsowrth of a supervisor for a good half hour, finally got an apology and a promise of a free bottle of wine if we reopened our account, happily told him where to shove it

dramaqueen72 · 07/08/2005 15:50

agree, tescos are really starting to stink, their whole attitude is one of 'so what?' I would do anything for a whole bunch of local shops instead of just the few i have so i could NEVER have to darken tescos doors again.
biggest f**k up when i had home shopping delivered was no lemon squash for the children.....so they sent lemon CIFF instead!!!!!!!!!!!!!I hope they didnt really expect my children to drink that!
maybe we should send them this thread!

FIMAC1 · 07/08/2005 16:19

Dh is thinking about writing his dissatation next year for his Masters in Transport Planning on problems of Shopping related problems for previous-car driving elderly once they no longer drive, in some part relating to town centre shops being killed by the big 4

This may seem some way of but it will probably affect all of us in the future

tabitha · 07/08/2005 16:33

That really is awful
I had a similar, but not so disastrous, experience with Tesco last year. They delivered my order but when I started unpacking I found that a bottle of washing up liquid had opened and spilt its contents over a box of washing powder. I have 4 kids and at the time the youngest was about 4 months old and I had literally tons of washing waiting to be done.
I phoned them up to complain and their answer was literally "Can't you go to the store and buy it yourself?"
Well, no I can't. I didn't have a car (dh had it at work) and this is why I use home delivery to save me the hassle of trying to go there with 4 kids on public transport.
Eventually, after a lot of phone calls and me being my ususal belligerent self, they kindly 'relented' and sent someone out from the store to deliver it to me. Big of them, eh.
I was not very impressed especially as most other deliveries they had either forgotten something (or things) or got the order wrong in some way.
Also, as for not being able to find your house, I thought that was why they asked for your phone number and gave their drivers mobiles, so that they could phone you if they had problems.
Hope you complain like hell and get it sorted out. They really have been appallingly bad.

FIMAC1 · 07/08/2005 16:40

Why are you all so shocked?!

Tesco's are fart too big and could not give a stuff, aka Walmart in the US

Time to shop elsewhere and stop the Tesco takeover - although it's probably too little too late

spacecadet · 07/08/2005 17:54

i stopped having tesco home delivery because thet kept missing bits out of our order or putting food in that was nearly out of date, i live in the sticks to and there isnt really anywhere else to shop, there is an asda 15 miles away, but im not happy with asda either at the mo.
my mum lives in north wales but wont shop in the new asda down the road from her , she hates it, she shops in m and s, alright for some.
