TESCO failed to deliver and left me with no milk for this morning AND THEY COULDN'T CARE LESS

Sorry for the caps but TESCo really are the pits.

They were meant to delivr last night but didn't and I couldn't get through last night.

Checked pC this morning and it showed the order as having been delivered.

Waited till just gone 9 to ring and they said they couldn't find the house so didn't deliver. (they've delivered here before)

Told them I had no milk or food and had an 18 month old in the house and their attitude was that it wasn't their problem.

PLUS they've taken the money out of my account- the girl made it sound like a favour that they were going to put it back in. I told her too right they were going to put it back in- it was my money and they had no right to have it- BUT it'll take a few days. They can't redeliver the order till monday. I told them that was my shopping money and how was I meant to get food now and they said there was nothing they could do.

My husband rang them and they were just as 'couldn't care' with him. Luckily I had other money but what if I didn't? Their attitude really stinks.

Plus I live in the center of a town so it's not rural or hard to find- i asked why the driver didn't get out to look for the house and they said that they didn't do that.

They really are the pits. They move into an area- undercut everyone and then when they've closed all the small businesess they hike their prices and deliver crap service- because tey can.

Right sorry abdout that- Rant over

I complained to Tesco customer services and so far have heard NOTHING. They really don't give a toss that they left an 18 month old with no milk and for all they knew with no food in the house and no money to get food. They really are the pits and teir motto of 'every little helps' is the biggest joke going

keep chasing it up though. IME, if you don't ask, you don't get.

PixieFish

Just out of interest as you mention that you live in a centre of a town, does it still have any food-stores, or have they all been 'killed off'. I use Co-Op swift a lot, and top up at the bigger Co-op and locally, as and when needed.

See the great thread at the moment on shopping locally on Food messageboard!

Tortington · 09/08/2005 10:34

see am on a mission to not as much as possible give big corporate tesco my money.

i know i have to pay more at teh co-op but the cooperative ethos is fucking fantastic.

Pixiefish · 09/08/2005 21:54

we have a small co-op locally that i do try to use whenever i can. BUT their choice is fairly limited. Am determined to go back to shopping locally now, especially as I still haven't heard anything from Tesco

Good for you PixieFish!

I haven't heard from Tesco since I stopped using them in May - apart from one email offering me £10 off a food shop as I hadn't been using them much (we used the delivery quite a bit) I sense a turn in opinion on using the big 4 - theres a very active thread on Food about shopping locally and using farm shops etc

Pixiefish · 20/08/2005 23:34

A quick update.
A week later Tesco emailed an apology and said tat these things happened and tough basically.
I emailed them back saying that their attitude of appearing to not care is disgusting and the fact that they potentially left an 18m old baby with no milk, little food and mum with no money for 4 days (didn't do the refund till 4 days later) disgusting. it was a very polite email from the heart and I have heard NOTHING back. They really are the pits

They might still reply, usually takes at least 24 hours.
Good on you for taking it further though, even if nothing does come of it, at least you tried. Their service has been really poor for you and they should do something to keep you as a customer.

kid · 20/08/2005 23:40

(just realised 24 hours might have already passed) If it has, you could always email them and comment that they don't deliver your shopping or reply to your email!

Pixiefish - I would be tempted to go to the local press about this. Really stress the baby with no food angle. I'm sure they would be very interested, and I'm also certain that Tesco would fall over themselves to publicly compensate you as a result.

I recently had a problem with a Tesco instore security store guard who accused me of shoplifting (before I had got to the till) because I fed my dses a gingerbread man. I wrote a stinging letter to the store and they totally kissed my *rse. Got flowers and loads of Easter eggs for the children, most of which are still in the cupboard as we just couldn't eat so many.

I also had a failed delivery from them, and rang to complain. It was a Friday night and delivery should have been before 9pm, from the Wrexham store. I told them that if they didn't deliver that night I didn't want the shopping and they sent the full lot with a member of staff in her own car when she left work. I live 10 miles away, so if they can do that for me I don't see why they couldn't do it for you. They were just being lazy.

If you want to use this as a reference to them (as in, you did this for her, why not for me?), then CAT me and I'll let you have my full name and address.

Bumpyroad · 21/08/2005 01:21

Asda=Walmart. Same company (in case there is any confusion). They are also a mega-giant that do not care about their customers; their staff; or least of all the communities they destroy.

Went to morrisons to shop yesterday- can get a lot of food locally but not fruit and veg- there really isn't anywhere locally and believe me i have looked.

hey Soup Dragon - you must live near the same Co-Op as I do! I LOATHE the place - makes me feel like killing somebody - either myself or one of the brainless gum chewing checkout people - every time I go in, which isn't often! Fruit and vege is usually semi-rotten and everything seems to be priced much higher than other supermarkets.
I use tesco.com and, erm, sorry everyone - have actually been quite happy with them. Love Ocado but can't afford it v often.
Pixiefish - I would suggest a telephone call to the local store manager, warning that you will take it up with local press and head office if he does not react to your complaint in a suitably concerned manner. Good luck.

Piggiesmum · 22/08/2005 21:26

Have to agree with everyone that tescos really don't give a stuff. Dh and I fell out with them over a year ago over some insects found in rice. After losing one of our letters (until we pointed out it had been sent recorded delivery) they tried saying these insects were a common household pest! (ie it's your fault you must have a dirty house). And this was from the head of customer services. Goodness knows how that woman got the job (rolleyes emoticon needed). .After looking on the internet the things in the rice weren't even what Tesco claimed they were. Eventually weeks of letters later they sent us vouchers saying ok sorry, here's some vouchers so you'll shop with us again blah blah.........

Not likely. We won't ever be shopping there again except to spend the vouchers.

Sounds like you're best bet is to try the store manager. At the end of the day he will be much more eager to keep a customer happy and shopping in his shop as it all counts towards his sales figures etc etc and potential bonus.
