TESCO failed to deliver and left me with no milk for this morning AND THEY COULDN'T CARE LESS

Sorry for the caps but TESCo really are the pits.

They were meant to delivr last night but didn't and I couldn't get through last night.

Checked pC this morning and it showed the order as having been delivered.

Waited till just gone 9 to ring and they said they couldn't find the house so didn't deliver. (they've delivered here before)

Told them I had no milk or food and had an 18 month old in the house and their attitude was that it wasn't their problem.

PLUS they've taken the money out of my account- the girl made it sound like a favour that they were going to put it back in. I told her too right they were going to put it back in- it was my money and they had no right to have it- BUT it'll take a few days. They can't redeliver the order till monday. I told them that was my shopping money and how was I meant to get food now and they said there was nothing they could do.

My husband rang them and they were just as 'couldn't care' with him. Luckily I had other money but what if I didn't? Their attitude really stinks.

Plus I live in the center of a town so it's not rural or hard to find- i asked why the driver didn't get out to look for the house and they said that they didn't do that.

They really are the pits. They move into an area- undercut everyone and then when they've closed all the small businesess they hike their prices and deliver crap service- because tey can.

Right sorry abdout that- Rant over

I found the attitude of my driver a few weeks ago a little off, she phoned and said, 'What level are you on?' I apologised and answered the third. She said, 'Well are you going to help me carry it up then? Theres over 100kilos of stuff here and I can't do it all myself' I told her that I always do help, yes I would be able to. And she said 'Good, otherwise I'd have had to come back at another time later today'

I just thought it was really off - surely the job does involve carrying things up stairs, if she is not able to do the job then surely she shouldn't do it? To phone up and basically tell people unless they help her else you'll have to wait in for another person to do it is off IMO. Imagine it was an elderly person going out that afternoon to their once a week bingo or something? Has put me off using them TBH.

spacecadet · 07/08/2005 18:19

thats not on flossam

Pixiefish · 07/08/2005 19:07

Moondog- es you have the correct place. Markets are crap though. Am going to try Hortons in Bryn for veg from now on.

Dh did phone the store and he wouldn't do sod all.

Am not going there again. Agree rearding the Co-op but their store is fairly small here so tey don't have much choice BUT I will use them more. (their dividend payout is better than tesco as well)

Tesco's are trying to buy land that includes the land my FIL's business is on - they have offered a pathetic amount, are patronising and frankly behave like bullies - I won't shop there.....

On the other hand did an ocado (waitrose) shop last week was supposed to be delivered the day of the tornado in Brum - guy phoned, said he wouldn't make it til 11.00 at night so we resheduled and were given £25 as compensation. On the Sat the gitl was caught in an accident so was over two hours late (not her fault she had to be a witness) - she kept us posted as to the problem and handed us a £5 voucher. Then on weds I got a letter from the customer service people with a £50 voucher! So a total of £80 in vouchers and I didn't even have to throw a strop

Oh yes, Tescos substitutions.

I wanted: Pregnacare vitamins
I got: Pregnancy and Birth Magazine

I wanted: 56 New Born size 1 nappies
I got: 56 Junior size 5 Pull Ups (and I happened to have been in the store that morning and noticed they were out of the large packs of size 1, but had loads and loads of 28 packs - obviously the packer thought I had some sort of obsession with having 56 nappies at once)

Blackduck · 07/08/2005 19:32

Their reason for the low price to my FIL was 'well your land will only be the carpark' - I see so if my land was where the deli counter would be it would be worth more .....

logic · 07/08/2005 19:36

Our last tesco's delivery was over 30 minutes late. Apparently, the driver had given our food to the previous customer and didn't notice until she phoned them and so he had to go back to retrieve it. No vouchers or anything, not even the delivery refunded. Might have to try ocado.

FIMAC1 · 07/08/2005 20:16

Dh works in Planning at a Shire Hall, you would not believe the stuff Tesco get through by 'flouting' regulations - putting in for car parking spaces based on shop floor space devoted to foodstuffs is one and then diversifying and selling other goods, in that floorspace and killing local trade - good for the Council who have pulled them up, whoever they are

Will check about car-parking space land prices, I believe their is a difference.

spacecadet · 07/08/2005 20:18

fimac, that sounds suspiciously like the tesco local to me!

Blackduck · 07/08/2005 20:22

FIMAC1 - having spoken to my FIl I would believe everything you could tell me about Tescos flauting rules. They have been so underhand in their dealings with him it beggers belief...

hercules · 07/08/2005 20:23

I would love to have a local butchers and greengrocers where I live but sadly our local Tescos has the monopoly.
That said, they do a good pension scheme!

spacecadet · 07/08/2005 20:26

our local tesco, had a tesco metro in the centre of town which was the original store opened in 1968, when they applied to extend their out of town store they were granted it on the proviso that they kept the city centre store open, yet just a year after finishing their extension, they closed their old tesco and re-leased to woolies, claiming that they were only obliged to keep it as a retail outlet and by leasing to woolies they had done so.

FIMAC1 · 07/08/2005 20:41

Have just spoken to Dh, I was wrong. There is no difference in development land value, it is a flat rate. Basically they are lying. For instance where we live the land price is roughly £300,000 per square acre. He has said to tell your FIL to say to them either you want a car park or not? and to hold out until he is satisfied with the price.

Believe you me, they WILL want a car park! Dh just shook his head when I told him your story. Makes me hate them even more - if possible

FIMAC1 · 07/08/2005 20:47

He also said they are also lying in that Stockport article, there is no % of space given to circulation, checkouts etc, they apply for sq meterage of space overall, not for specific reasons

Good old Stockport Council though for pulling them up on it, although he did add that the Council usually end up coming to some sort of agreement with the Store, thus in the end Tesco or whoever win

Pixiefish · 07/08/2005 22:27

Don't know about England but in Wales the supermarkets don't pay council tax on their car parking space!!!!! SO they have these massive spaces and it doesn't cost them much at all in council ax

OP posts:
Tortington · 07/08/2005 23:10

the tesco near me are planning to make the existing store larger - they had massive opposition to this and withdrew their application. they then quietly submitted it again at a later date - this meant that all previous opposition no longer counted.

Flossam · 08/08/2005 09:23

I used to try and use the local small shops where I live, despite always feeling like the butcher was giggling at me for knowing diddly squat about meat! I also used the fruit and veg shop until one day I was selecting myself some strawberrys that were on an offer (two punnets for something or other) and basically got told they were all the same and I should just take two and stop ruining the display. Now I could understand if this was some kind of beautiful arrangement going on here, but in reality the top few punnets were slightly askew. She carried on b*tching about me to her colleague as I wondered about seperating off the number of bananas I wanted and so then just thought, sod it, put my stuff back and haven't been back since. That was back in May! I now do it all in Asda.

Having seen the supermarket thing though, I will try and go back to my giggling butcher. I have become rather lazy in that area really.

SoupDragon · 08/08/2005 10:51

Have seen someone recommending Co-Op lower down. I absolutely loathe that shop - the staff in the local ones I've been to are the most miserable people I have ever seen in a public service job. Shopping in Co-Op rates as one of the most depressing experiences of my life. At least the staff on the checkouts in Tescos tend to be cheerful and polite.

But don't get me started on tesco.com

pacinofan · 08/08/2005 11:13

To be honest, I have found the fruit and veg at Tesco to be far better value than that at my local fruit&veg shop, and usually better quality. Also, they often have offers on which my local fruit&veg shop seldom do. If you are on a budget, as we are, then I will always shop around for the cheapest products, and I'm afraid that where I live Tesco win. That said, I have started to shop around a bit more now for better quality meat, but that's chiefly after watching Channel 4's Despatches highlighting the quality of supermarket meat.

flashingnose · 08/08/2005 11:18

Really pacinofan? That's bad news . I visited our local farm shop this weekend for fruit and veg and spent less than I would have done at Tesco. Plus, it all actually tasted of something, having been picked in the last couple of days rather than being trucked around the country or put into cold store.

MrsDoolittle · 08/08/2005 11:33

I use Tesco too much and have vowed to reduce the amount down to nothing if atall possible, particularly after watching Dispatches!!

I fell such a hypocrite going there now

kid · 08/08/2005 22:23

Any update pixiefish?
