...a SHOPPING TROLLEY

A new supermarket has opened about 5 mins walk from our house and it seems like the eco thing to do.

Dh is mortified

Got it from Lakeland in Paul Smith-styley stripes (or so I'm trying to kid myself)

OMG middle age has arrived...

Disenchantegg3 · 05/04/2009 15:49

blametheparents · 05/04/2009 15:51

That is worse than middle aged! (Sorry)

itchyandscratchy · 05/04/2009 15:54

...so what should I do? Cut my hands to ribbons and have my arms drop off carrying shopping home?
or buy a 4X4 so that I can drive round to pick my shopping up?
or go every day buying one basket at a time?

I HAD NO CHOICE!!!

I have a beautiful flowery one, LMAO - my friend bought it for me last year, I use it for beach trips etc.
Funniest thing was, we used it when we walked to my friends the other week, with wine & crap etc in it and she was admiring it.
I did the little twirl thing and said "it's even got a little zip pocket here to keep your tena lady in"
She said "oh do you use those too?"
I said
"uh .. no"

SNOOOOooooooooooooooooort

moonmother · 05/04/2009 15:59

My names Moony and I too own a shopping trolley (plain black).

I live 10 mins from the local Asda and it carries virtually all own weekly shopping in it, my Dp carries the rest in a rucksack.

I also carry the Dc's school bags and lunch boxes to school in it.

We don't drive and it's honestly a godsend, as well as eco firendly.

There are alot of younger women using them here too, esp students for college.

blametheparents · 05/04/2009 15:59

Send your butler to do your shopping for you!

itchyandscratchy · 05/04/2009 16:04

Of course! Why didn't i think of that!

woman in Lakers was trying to convince me how trendy they are now. she pretended was admiring it when I paid for it.

I still carried it through town back to the car though... how mad's that?!

Oh Dear...I was just about to start the ridicule and I clicked on the link...that red shiny one is nice...so is the spotty one!

differentEggD · 05/04/2009 16:06

and I bought one last year from Ikea!
Less of the middle aged- I'm 29

HecAteTheEasterBunny · 05/04/2009 16:07

good for you! Very sensible, better for your back and environmentally friendly!

pginthecloset · 05/04/2009 16:08

good on you! I thought of doing this when I was in my 20s but just couldn't bring myself to do it

differentEggD · 05/04/2009 16:10

should add that I've only used it 3 times because I do most of my shopping either on the way from work or on weekend when dh drives us into town.

Kiwinyc · 05/04/2009 16:46

i fully intend to get one when my youngest is too old for the buggy and I have nothing else to carry my shopping home in. Can't wait!

Isaidno · 05/04/2009 16:54

I'm planning on getting one too when dd is out of the buggy!

itchyandscratchy · 05/04/2009 22:19

It's the lesser of several evils. Recently when we were having friends round and I had to walk to the shops to buy food I had to make dd2 get out of her buggy so that the two chickens I'd bought could ride in comfort, like twins.

so at least now I can bung all my food in the trolley and not look such a lunatic.

(perhaps)

mileniwmffalcon · 05/04/2009 22:23

how much can you fit in one of those then? how many standard carriers' full?

LackaDAISYcal · 05/04/2009 22:30

when we went to a Belgian Centerparcs, there was one in the cupboard for our use and everyone used them around the park, but we just couldn't bring ourself to do it.

If it had been as stylish as those though.....

Maybe in a few years or ten

itchyandscratchy · 05/04/2009 23:04

The woman in Lakey said they are used loads in Europe; it's just the UK that can't quite bring itself to embrace the trolleys.

Mine is 30L capacity
Looks to be about 4 or 5 bags' worth, with an inside pocket for freezer stuff.

OP posts:
MoreSpamThanGlam · 05/04/2009 23:07

Why dont you "pimp" your trolley? Sparkles and go faster stripes?

Yeahhhhh boiiiiii!!!!

Excuse me, I think I need to err...go and lie down. Sorry

itchyandscratchy · 05/04/2009 23:11

LOL that's just what I discussed with my friend today. She said I shouldn't try to be embarr about it at all; in fact I ought to tie tin cans to it to draw attention to myself even more. Twas then I suggested pimping it.

I want stickers and glittery bits

One of those boy racer airhorns too

Tortington · 05/04/2009 23:14

i was thinking about buying one for my 16 yo daughter who has a mahoosive amount of papers to deliver on a sunday - the bloody girl looks like she is hoisting stone for the pyrimids when she sets out.

but i would need anything slightly 'emo' is anyon has any links?

btw, i see these around quite a lot, and i don't think they are a sign of middle age at all

EasterEggsintheSky · 05/04/2009 23:17

I drive a lot and shop online but if I didn't, I'd have a trolley without an ounce of shame. Why would you knacker yourself when these beauties are available. I'd have one for each hand! Am trying to persuade my mum to use one to no avail.
