...a SHOPPING TROLLEY

A new supermarket has opened about 5 mins walk from our house and it seems like the eco thing to do.

Dh is mortified

Got it from Lakeland in Paul Smith-styley stripes (or so I'm trying to kid myself)

OMG middle age has arrived...

It is interesting that those of you who have never used one assume that doing so will result in ridicule!

I have the one I linked to much further down this thread - I have used it 4+ times a week for six months. So far one group of teenagers has laughed! No more than that

However I get positive comments from friends and strangers 4 or 5 times a week! And requests to know where I got it from.

Clearly I am a trendsetter! I saw an identical one to mine for the first time last week - I had to stop myself from going over and chatting to its owner

lisianthus · 10/04/2009 10:27

I love this thread and now I really want one of these! - except that what I should really be buying is a pram. Prams are so much more COMPLICATED to buy than these things though Perhaps I should just get a lovely spotty trolley and carry DD1 around in a backpack when she arrives

BTW itchy, you started my day with a fabulous image with the chickens in the buggy.

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 10/04/2009 19:11

yurtgilr...I wonder if there will be secret handshake etc...with Trolleyusers...just as there is with Fiat Multipla ...I mean it is a whole secret society

claireybeeinmyeasterbonnet · 11/04/2009 13:59

Lisianthus, get a good sling for baby and a trolly for you-sorted . Seriously, I hardly used a pushchair for ds until he was 10 months or so and I walk everywhere.

claireybeeinmyeasterbonnet · 11/04/2009 14:01

And I asked my 'coolest' friend about trolleys and she said they are v fashionable so I may well take a deep breath and get one for when ds starts to want to walk more-otherwise I don't know how I'll cope with my shopping

Rosa · 11/04/2009 14:04

I am on trolley No3 - Couldn't live without it. DH even pulls it when he has to . Every household here has one
Her in the fashion world of trolleys this is the latest one .....
latest trolley

Mine however is a pull one ( boring)

afterglow · 12/04/2009 10:11

Brilliant thread. I know that a trolley would save me from trying to wrestle dd into the buggy when she really wants to be in her sling. However I suspect that dh would be even more doubting of my sanity than he was when I said I wanted to put dd into cloth nappies (though that one turned out ok). It's strange how trolley luggage and trolley laptop cases don't provoke anywhere near the same reactions as shopping trolleys. hmmmm.

:bgrin: at Itchy's twin chickens!

afterglow · 12/04/2009 10:12

That would be of course.

itchyandscratchy · 12/04/2009 12:17

Dh had to work late the other evening so I didn't have the chance to take The Typhoon for a spin. Then dh spoilt everything by doing the shopping himself on Friday and cheated by using the car and doing a mahoooosive shop, therefore meaning I won't be going out with Typhoon for a good few days .

How depressing. Oh well.

(I should by all rights be keeping a trolley blog. Someone dare me!)

OP posts:
FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 12/04/2009 16:17

Oh I dare you...it could be aTrolley Forum blog...rofl....

kitkatqueen · 12/04/2009 16:35

Its OK!!! I just clicked on the "other items you might like" and there wasn't a shower chair to be seen!! ( shh but i quite like the spotty one)

Good for u!!

kitkatqueen · 12/04/2009 16:38

Couldn't you have a thread on the lines of the buggy shed???

I can see it now "Trolley shed April 09 - the 1st of many!!"

afterglow · 12/04/2009 16:49

Trolley dollies!

PrimroseHall · 12/04/2009 17:59

Ooh great thread. I'm going to get one too.

What do you all think of these?

I'm trying to choose between this one and this one. I like all of the ones with the French writing on actually.

Am I making a trolley faux pas with these? The ideal trolley would be big enough to get 2-3 days shopping in and also have a carry handle as I'll have to climb 2 flights of stairs with it to get to my flat after shopping.

Rosa · 12/04/2009 20:03

Crikey £40 thats expensive I paid about a tenner for mine - mind you it is blue and boring !
Tip for flats make sure they have pretty big wheels and then you can pull them up the steps
I like the red one BTW !

itchyandscratchy · 12/04/2009 21:04

I like Harbour

OP posts:
PrimroseHall · 12/04/2009 22:01

Thanks both of you

Rosa, I really liked the designer ones someone mentioned above, but at £200 ... the Trendy Trolley's I linked to seem like a bargain.

I know I should have looked around more for one with bigger wheels as you're right, heaving a full trolley up here won't be fun. Better than struggling with bags though!

I've just bought the Harbour trolley from my first link. Thanks for the confirmation Itchy. DP just kept sniggering when I asked him what he thought

I'm very, very excited about it being delivered now.

SuziSeis · 12/04/2009 22:05

i am liking them

whyever not

joy of having a pram - but yes if ever dont have a baby i sooooo would!

itchyandscratchy · 12/04/2009 22:07

oh just ignore your dh. He'll be begging to use it soon when his spine is curved and knuckles dragging along pavement from the bags weighing him down

We ought to organise a MN Trolley Rally. We can meet up in car parks late at night and show our trolleys off

OP posts:
FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 12/04/2009 23:06

The thread should be called Trolley Porn or Trolley Gate

Macdog · 13/04/2009 19:57

I saw these in Glasgow, and now I want one!

(any suggestions for pimping plain black one)

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 14/04/2009 12:23

hm....applique iron on things...maybe...although, not sure how compatable that would be with the shopping trolley material...
not sure if there is any paint that you could use...and not sure how artsy you are, sorry....

itchyandscratchy · 14/04/2009 15:08

ooo they're nice, Macdog.

Fairlady - noooooooo! would melt the material, I'm sure Would use glue if you're determined to pimp it.

Well, Typhoon has been OUT. Me and the dds took her down to the DIY store, about a mile away and they took it in turns to be in charge, delighted with themselves.

Then went to the supermarket. We managed to fit in 1 litre tin of paint, 6 big bottles assorted cleaning products, huge array of fruit and veg and 3 magazines. Plus two bottles of water, purse and mobile in the outside 'accessories' pockets. Hurrah! was soo easy to pull along.

Lots of looks from people - and no abuse - but not sure if that's down to the trolley or the fact that dd2 has a shiner today from hitting her head on a step yesterday .
