After doing the hundreth pile of washing up and drying up this morning I have decided I have had enough.
Will have to take out some space from small kitchen which is a pain.
Are dishwashers worth getting or am I just being lazy???

I would put my dishwasher up there with my clotheswasher & dryer & fridge, too! It's alright being w/out one if you don't have kids, tho.

fredtbad · 06/02/2005 00:05

Having a dishwasher is the same as handwashing all your clothes until you get a washing machine ( you would never go back to handwashing either, in my opinion).
They're magic! Go in dirty comes out clean and dry!! It never ceases to make me smile

bobbybob · 06/02/2005 07:16

I lost a double cupboard in my last house to have one, and it was worth it.

I don't think I would be without one now, I couldn't have dishes lying around waiting to be washed looking ugly. Buy an extra cutlery set though, or you will be driven mad by the lack of toast making equipment.

We have a slim size dishwasher, so small enough to be filled up and used everyday. My DH uses it more than I do as I'd rather wash a plate quickly by hand than bend down to put it in the dishwasher, wait for it to be washed, bend down again to take it out. In fact DH does the unloading generally - but he needs reminding.

We are on our 2nd and this time we went Meile..well worth the extra expense and I would suggest cleans far better than washing by hand...

FrenchGirl · 10/02/2005 19:25

We had one already in the kitchen when we moved here and it was rubbish. So I went on for 5 years without one thinking it wasn't really worth the expense. However my mum persuaded me to get one for Xmas, which we did, and I'm in love with it. It's a middle of the range Bosch, and it cleans perfectly. I can't believe the difference between hand washed and dishwasher washed!!!! BRILLIANT!

eidsvold · 10/02/2005 20:52

yes definitely worth it - esp. when you have people over..... and just for day to day washing up - saves me time. Had one in the house when I bought it - am now on my second one. Had one in our rented property in the UK and when the old one finally died ( 16 yrs old.... don't make them like that anymore ) I hated washing up whilst waiting for the new one to be installed.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get bottles/screw caps/teats etc clean after they have been stained pink from I understand being put in a diswasher with other plates which had had meat on them? I now have several murky pink screw tops and can't find anywhere that sells tops only!

misdee · 12/02/2005 22:16

justdont worry about it, and have pink lids lol.

Cam · 13/02/2005 16:42

You could probably put them in a bleach solution and then through the dishwasher again?

I don't think the pink comes from meat, LPoppet. I have some clear plastic food boxes with white lids which always come out pink, washing them by hand gets rid of it a bit but then it comes back next time they go in the dw. Agree with misdee, just get used to the pinkness!

roisin · 13/02/2005 18:11

Aaarrggggghhh... My dishwasher's going crazy - maybe a midlife crisis. It switches on, but then just keeps going and going and going - washing not drying! Open it up to have a look hours later and it's still full of water.

What do I do? I've looked at the manual and it's no help at all. I checked the filters and gave them a scrub, but they seem OK. What next?

bundle · 13/02/2005 18:12

roisin, snap! i've checked to see if the outflow pipe was kinked or blocked but seems fine. ours is a bosch.

roisin · 13/02/2005 18:23

Well that makes me a feel a bit better at least Bundle ... ours is a cheap Indesit, but if a Bosch can do whatever it is it's done ..!

I can't pull ours out to look at the overflow pipe, as it is a really tight fit. I'll have to get dh to do it later.

bundle · 13/02/2005 18:26

on the bosch website there's a video showing how you can unscrew the base and whizz round a little wheel which might get clogged up - but ours has a sealed bottom (!) so can't do that...

roisin · 13/02/2005 19:48

Bundle - have you got yours sorted yet? I just found this old thread where misdee recommended tipping it on its side to Suzywong, and it worked! Once dh is home I'll get him to try that.

I put ours on a hot cycle to see if that helped ... ended up with water on the kitchen floor

bundle · 13/02/2005 19:50

fab.will try.

pixel · 13/02/2005 22:51

Lpoppet, have you tried putting some cleaner through the machine? Finish dishwasher cleaner is good. You get a little bottle that you just put upside-down in the cutlery basket and then run the machine empty. Don't know if that will help with your problem but it used to make our old machine clean better.

LPoppet · 14/02/2005 13:29

Thanks for the tips, maybe I'll save the pink lids in case I have a little girl next.

purpleturtle · 14/02/2005 13:35

no room in our tiny kitchen for a dishwasher (I keep trying to work out how to get one in!). We have a Polish lodger instead.

Nikkichik · 14/02/2005 13:40

Had one but since we sold our house and moved into rented (waiting for the right house tobuy again!) it's now in storage. I sooooo miss it!

roisin · 14/02/2005 18:13

Bundle - ours is working again - how about yours? We pulled it out and tipped it, and poked around in the pipes and so on. I'm not sure what did the trick, but I don't care as long as it's functioning properly again!

Amanda3266 · 14/02/2005 18:27

Not since we moved have we had a dishwasher - no room in the kitchen of the new house to put one

God - how we miss it - just didn't realise how fantastic it was until we no longer had one.
