What type of eternity ring would you add to this combo...

Hi fashionable hive mind! We finally have the funds to get an eternity ring to go with my wedding and engagement ring. I am very uncreative and the only thing I think will match is either a plain band or the same wedding band again. My sister (young, fashionable, living the high life with no responsibility yet) thinks I should get something completely different.

I would love any of your suggestions or links, or photos of your combos. I really want to make sure I love it forever!

Both your wedding and engagement rings are channel set, which is lovely, but a lot of settings - I'd go for something like this, worn in between the two you have, which would break it up and provide a nice visual contrast.

They look like something out of a Christmas cracker

PS your rings look lovely. However, I am starting to wonder about the glitter (or lack of glitter). I see it a little in your photos but not as much as I’d expect even in low lighting. It may be that my expectations are wrong. I am used to diamonds with significant glitter. I apologise if my expectations are wrong.

Are you still trying to be "helpful" because if your first comment came across as unkind, this one comes across as rude and uncalled for.
Literally uncalled for, did anyone ask for your opinion on your expectations of op's rings??

GentlePlayer · 27/04/2025 00:38

Oh wow, didn't expect so many replies, I'm getting so excited reading through the replies, I love loads of the suggestions.
So to clarify, my rings are platinum and diamonds, so I would be looking to replicate the same materials, although I don't mind lab grown stones, and my budget is £2k give or take.

My original grand master plan when picking the wedding band, was that my eternity ring would be a plain band, or a replica of the wedding band, but as a pp poster said my tastes have changed since then (9 years since the wedding ring, 11 since the engagement ring), and I just wanted to explore different options.

I'm actually really liking the delicate twisted ones, I don't know how they would look against mine which are quite linear and blocky but
@CertainUncertain I loved your idea to change the order, and then I saw @MerlinsBeard1 combo and yours are so beautiful! The "not matching" works so well together.

@SamDeanCas your first option is beautiful..they do it in platinum, with various widths and one of their stores are local to me!

Well I wasn't making a suggestion for you, which is fortunate since you don't seem to have the discernment or good taste to appreciate them.

I never understand the point of people bothering to come onto threads to tell other people, unasked, how ugly they think something is instead of just scrolling by. I suppose it serves a purpose for some. Do you feel good now? Would you like to make a suggestion for the OP, or are you just here to be unpleasant?

Also, no offense taken re the lack of shine and how they don't look like diamonds, they are, and the large stone is prefect clarity and colour.

Thank you for those of you who defended them, I really appreciate it, I did take the photo in a room with poor light and they are more sparkly in the bathroom under the spotlight...but they also haven't been cleaned in god knows how long!!

I've found the absolute best thing for cleaning platinum and diamonds is hot water with a tiny tiny bit of washing up liquid and a squirt of Ecover dishwasher rinse aid. Let them soak for a couple hours and then give them a scrub with a soft toothbrush, rinse and blast with a hairdryer. Every time I bother, I'm floored by how sparkly they are.

@GentlePlayer

Please

will you come back one day, with your ring ?

Annialisting · 27/04/2025 00:47

i have a gorgeous diamond and sapphire eternity ring but I wear it on my other hand. It looks far better than teaming it with my wedding and engagement rings.

MayaPinion · 27/04/2025 05:42

Your wedding ring already looks like an eternity band so I’d be tempted to even things out with an eternity ring that looks like a wedding ring. Something like this would work well.

Oh coloured stones might be nice, maybe some alternating sapphires or rubies?

I also thought like your wedding ring but coloured stones.

When my Nana died I used the money she left me in her will (only £100) to have a ring made with her birthstone.

Do you have children?

Maybe the birth stones of your children, or if you don't have any what about alternating your DH's and yours?

If you don't like that idea what about black diamonds? I think that would look stunning between your existing rings.

That’s just what I was going to say - I’d love a rainbow stone ring, and one and the same design of your wedding band would look nice. Or you could go for an acrostic ring, the stones spell out a word eg ADORE (amethyst, diamond, opal, ruby, emerald) or any word you like, really

RuthW · 27/04/2025 10:00

Your wedding ring is an eternity ring. The only think to add that won’t look odd is a plainish band.

crocodilesnap · 27/04/2025 10:42

I have similar to yours but with the channel set as my eternity ring and a plainer studded band like this one as my wedding ring. I tried on lots to see what combinations I liked best.

I’d do coloured stones this time

Me too. Same ring coloured stones

UpToonGirl · 27/04/2025 16:07

I would go to a large Goldsmiths (even if you don't have any intention of buying from there) and try on as many different styles as you can. I just recently got an eternity ring and tried on quite a few styles before choosing the first ring I'd tried on! I even tried on a few I really didn't fancy just to make sure it didn't look different with my other rings.

Have a list of styles/settings and ask to try on a few. I would tell them you're not bothered about the metal, you're going to want to match it with the ring you choose but it widens the styles you can try on.

gmgnts · 27/04/2025 16:34

What about a 'dearest' ring? That's diamond emerald amethyst ruby emerald sapphire tourmaline? They are colourful and have a hidden message - and you can get them in pretty cluster designs as well as set in gold bands.

TheGaaTheSkaAndTheRa · 27/04/2025 20:08

I love garland style eternity rings.

justasking111 · 28/04/2025 11:23

Been looking at pink sapphire rings. They're very pretty
